Hey house lovers and explorers! This old place started life as a small late Victorian farm cottage and had a federation extension in the early 1900`s. Who ever lived here last just took off one day and left it all behind.....Lots to see and look at in this explore including some wildlife! :-) Hope you all enjoy, cheers for watching :-)

Some folks ask why did people leave so much behind? To tell ya the truth sometimes you don't have room in your vehicle to take things thinking "well I'll come back and get it". I had a old farm house that I move from into town. My son and his family moved half way across the US and when they found a house in the town I lived in did not have room for all the things they had brought. So they stored alot of their things they did not need at the time in the old house. Time went by and they had replaced all the things they had stored in my barn. This month I made a deal to sell the old place and the buyer gave me two months to get everything out that I wanted because he was going to bulldoze the whole place down to build a commercial building. I asked my son if they wanted anything out of the old barn, his wife said if we had not gotten it 10 years ago we don't need it now.... That is why thing are left behind, no room to take it at the time and now no need to go back for it.

What an unusual layout. Perhaps modifications were made for a really big family. Did you count the number of beds including a folding cot in the pantry? The makeshift bedroom with laundry sink in it is interesting; house dresses hung next to a bed, nightstand and neatly stacked romance novels. The kitchen was terribly cute at one time. What a stylish blue bathroom with matching paint on the standing tub and basin How can you not smile at the parrot shower curtain? Somebody really cared about that house up to the end.

This definitely was a cool explore, thanks Paul. I agree with your hypothesis that the 1900-1905 side has been added to an earlier cottage, the design cues certainly suggest that. The style of clothing suggest an older lady in the 80s along with younger people after that. With all of those beds, do you think it might’ve been used as a holiday house in later years? If it’s near the water or such, it might’ve been ideal to take the kids from the city over the school break. The palm tree was interesting; I live in southern NSW, very much inland, and there are palm trees around the town. Having grown up in suburban Melbourne, palm trees were also used there as a decorative feature, particularly in municipal parks and developments. I wonder if the ‘South Pacific’ style of films of the 1920s and 1930s popularised them? As an amateur student of Australian architectural I’m really enjoying your work; do you have a Patreon or another way that your work could be supported? For me, the 1989 book ‘A pictorial guide to identifying Australian architecture’ has been a regular read since I discovered it around 1998. Your videos have built upon this, not only showing the various styles but also the fascinating way that one style often blended into another, with older features still being used in newer homes as the designer or builder chose. Thanks again.
@urbexindigo5164
@urbexindigo5164 Год назад
Hi Matt :-) Cheers mate, glad you love your architecture too, I will have to look that book up, I have recently got a couple of older books specific to Adelaide`s progression in architecture but honestly I have learnt the most from being out in these homes and correlating the known build dates with the features. Yes agree about the palm trees, these old homesteads definitely see a lot with them as a statement feature in front of the home. Glad you are enjoying these video, have many more on the way with a lot of interesting old build qualities :-)

I have seen this here in Victoria, where the farm house was abandoned either by someone getting too old to live out of town or home unsuitable or even death. Then the house has renters who trash it and after that it’s left as is. Property is often used for simply grazing sheep or cattle and sometimes squatters come in. I guarantee the belongings are from the late eighties to very early nineties. I metal detect and see old properties, but I am often too scared to explore them. If you are ever down this way I can give you a few. Also, Melbourne outskirts have a lot as there is new estates being built and the old farms are all getting bulldozed 😢
@urbexindigo5164
@urbexindigo5164 Год назад

Great explore Paul! I have a feeling that a family may have lived in there for a short time around 2007 as maybe squatters, or very cheap rent, after the original owners had passed on or retired. Old things out of the house were put on the back verandah. Part of the roofing iron looks like it was replaced just to keep the weather out. Yes, a very unusual vibe but a very interesting layout. Cheers again.

I Suspect someone was removed to hospital, and never returned.. from the appearance of the drawers, there may have been an extensive search for a will, papers, or other items. If that was a T V mast, it was certainly a fringe area Without repeaters, the best you could hope for from early equipment was 60 to 70 miles.. A large mast might get about 90 or 100 miles. Interesting to see the way a small cottage was adapted for a larger family.

I was a weird place not sure about all the clothes everywhere but they grabbed a few things and ran out the door and why was there so many beds no lounge room chairs to sit on but heaps of dining room chairs I don't know it just looked like something bad happened there or that I've been watching too many paranormal and crime videos lol

Someone could have wanted the table and chairs etc, but not many people want that many bed. Remaining family took just what was useful to them maybe.

I love your content, but this house is too much for me. My germaphobia is off the charts with this one.

It looked like longer than 2007 that the old girl was abandoned. Who knows! Interesting explore, thank you so much for time and effort you put into your video's to show how old farms and houses looked like back in the day. 🦘🤔🥰
