7:45 I think the problem was that there was very little contrast in the focus square so it had a hard time telling weather it focused correctly or not.

Did you update the cable spec for hdmi 2.0 to support 4k? The cables are often a problem as they don't all support the higher bandwidth. Apparently hdmi 2.1 supports 8k. But using an old cable won't give the full experience.

I believe the focus on those cameras work by contrast detection. When the auto-focus started misbehaving you had just a more or less blue area on the focussing area - that's why it wasn't able to focus, I think.

I did not think I needed one but I am the same with good recommendations and recovering from past purchases. I got one and have tons of uses for it now. I'm also getting some Barlow's and going to use it with an old telescope. Weather permitting I'm in the UK. it works brill for spotting marks on so called new items. Call out the seller and normally get a refund of some kind or a Free return when the items not worth it. :-) One of my best buys and the grand kids also love it they now come armed with items they wish to see with Grandads Super Zoom power and they also bring a usb so they can get a copy of the pics. Worth it weight in gold just to see them so engaged and who knows Dave may well be responsible for the next Astronauts AKA Tim Peaks, Physicist Bryan Cox, or Engineer James Dyson. :-)

I got the 0.35, 0.5 and 2.0 lenses I found using the 0.35 worked best for my situation, I have also ordered some extension tubes to allow me to raise the microscope up higher to be able to use zoom above 3, auto focus has been really good to have ! I am using the 120x assembly not the 180x. I have some footage recorded for a review video, but haven't got around to it yet. Bought one of these since Dave's first Eakins video. Been a happy camper, except I'm not sure if my autofocus works as well as Dave's: it's jumping around quite a bit sometimes, and focus range doesn't seem to be as good. Maybe it's because Dave has better lighting. I have the 120x and 180x objectives; now ordered the Barlow lenses ;)

Very nice scope but recently prices shot up- only a couple of years ago these were 50% of the price- the barlow lenses though are quite cheap because for binocular microscopes they cost more and they aren’t much different. Magnification being the thing many manufacturers charge almost a third more for something that provides a total of x90 vs one with x45. Like everything its a jungle out there and they have to compete on the price of the standard kit and make their profit on the accessories. Keep up the good work and the great variety of posts. Im learning a lot (a pom learning from an antipodean? Whatever next eh?) with 11/11 looming let’s remember the fantastic contribution of the Anzacs to the WW’s. Thanks friends!

I don't need to use a microscope very often, so I also use my dslr with a 70-200mm lens, a close up lens and 2x and 1.4x teleconverters (barlow lenses). That works amazingly well with a great zoom range, autofocus, more than 300mm working distance, and at maximum magnification I get an amazing 12mm wide field of view at full hd resolution. Can get even closer than that if I use 1:1 sensor resolution.

@EEVblog

You can, but not with optical lenses. Light is much much short wavelength, hence the diffraction happens on much smaller scales than radio waves, so the lens material and properties really matters. Some plastics do it at microwave frequencies.

You can, just the lenses would be massive. Since 2.4GHz has about 12cm wavelength, a refraction lens would have to be hundreds of meters across to provide any kind of focusing power.

@@andydickinson4018 i bought the 51mp and hace had it a while. Mounted from my ceiling pointed down on a camera tripod pointed at workbench. Held to ceiling via one eyebolt in joist and bungie cords. Out of way and ceiling has less vibration but mainly it decreases magnification to something usable. Connected to 44" tv. You can see puctures on my soundpack page. Im not happy the lens is so hard to get in perfect focus or that it doesnt have motorized focus control which it needs badly. Otherwise works as advertised. I use it to read my mail. Too blind now to solder. What else about it? It can connect to 720 and 600 monitors too. Also the 51mp is just about 6x times 1080p.. So you wont be taking 51mp picrs but what it does is give you up to a 5 or 6x digiral zoom. Kind of useful. I cant get usb to computer to work for me. The infrared remote is very useful but sometimes frustrating and you need to buy your own battery fir it if I remember.

Just cant put your head between lens and what you are working on so I offset mine to the right and aim it to the edge of the table. I'd much rather record video on my PC so I could port it right into my video editor, so maybe I'll play around with the software again soon to record a RC transmitter demo video. For me it's not very useful as a vision aid for the blind... I can read an amount due on a bill or a few sentences in junk mail to figure out if it's important or not, but I can forget trying to read a paragraph let alone book with this thing. I mean, it's doing it's job fine, my vision is just that far gone as it gets worse every single day. @HighestRank
@HighestRank 5 лет назад
Flemming Jacobsen basically it’s a mild reducer or magnifier which when used in conjunction with its black tube may unflip the final image by 180° in circumstances when it’s impossible to flip a real object, of course with minimal loss of luminosity. In this case its only practical application is like putting a fixed-focus lens on an autofocus camera to shift its entire zoom power range around, which for a ‘reducing’ Barlow (fractional power) adds the benefit of increasing field of view, such that very little of its original autofocus capability will be lost even while increasing the distance from the object to the scope. Any added extremity or ordinary (non-Barlow) complexity often dramatically decreases depth of field and obviates setting any ‘back focus’ especially when the lens diameters are small, and large high-powered ‘objective’-lenses with short focal lengths are so expensive that when possible they are omitted in lieu of low powers in conjunction with an extra-long optical tube or if there is a cheap but standard lens that’s slightly overpower, a fractional Barlow added to compensate.
