I bought a BM857A a week ago and they changed the backlight, it's now orange and works perfectly.

It's a bit friggin' rich making snide remarks about he Brymens' uV and pF low limits when the Brymen meters are 10x the sensitivity (lower limit) of Dave-o's beloved Fluke 87-v on Volts/Amps and match the 87V's low Capacitance! Fluke 87V: 100uV; 100nA; 10pF (10mF max) BM869: 10uV; 10nA; 10pF (25mF max) BM857: 10uV; 10nA; 10pF (10mF max) BM257: 10uV; 100nA; 10pF (3mF max)

Also found Brymen multimeters as very good meters with Fluke features for a third of Fluke price. Had BM257s for a while (Dave, you are guilty 😀) - very handy meter on both bench and outside. Recently bought BM789.

Dave, Just a quick note to say thanks for publishing interesting in depth content so regularly. You're by far my favourite subscription - even though I don't understand half the stuff you say... Thanks for being amazing, and I slightly hate you for making me consider changing my University choice from Computer Science to Electrical Engineering. Stay awesome!

We want a review of the 869 !!! Pleeease, do a review of it ! Great multimeter ! You could even compare it with the Fluke 87V !

The smaller Bryman is selling as the "EEVblog Brymen BM235" for US$125 in blue. The dual display one is selling on Amazon USA as the "Greenlee DM-820A" for US$170 in green. Priced in November 2019.

That small trimpot near the buttons adjusts the diode test voltage, mine was set to 2.900.

These meters are sold on the US Amazon site under the name Greenlee Model DM-820A and DM-510A

I have a wattmaster DMM 4001. Bought it in 2007. Still going strong on the same batteries I think. Nice DVM.

Dave, I don't think you ever did a full review and teardown analysis of the top of the range BM869 that you show in this video, did you? I reckon that would be a really popular video, and I for one would be really interested to see it, if you ever get a chance to do so. Or, if you already have done a whole video on that specific video and I've missed it, sorry about that, it didn't come up in a quick search in youtube vids. Cheers!

I like the look of the 857. Reminds me of the 80 series flukes.

I love the twisting/bending test as a meter for gauging the build quality of the product. Imagine peoples reaction if you actually did this while shopping for electronics in public?

I Have two of the 869 and they are great.

I personally like the unlatched continuity testers since they can be used to diagnose bad connections in switches and such. If you get scratches in the sound there is a bad connection. The latched ones can't be used for that.

The back light is clearly defective.

Moving it to the edge would help more. Right now it is shooting through a semi-reflective screen.

Maybe they forgot to put it in on the production line. The pictures of the meter in the link you provided. show a much more even illumination.

what would be a good clamp meter? and must you use 2 of them to clamp test the wattage on an amplifier? I'm new to testing things with meters and would like to learn more. great vid, thanks!

Fuse access fom outside? I'm not quite sure you're serious or joking. If you blew a fuse, first you'd want it under a shitload of covers and weather seals, in order not to risk injury. Second, you'd certainly want to open the meter and have a look inside after the blow-up. You might be surprised at what you've found..

I was wondering, is air gap really does that well at isolating? I believe what using plastic gap will do a lot better at isolating, so why not just to leave nice plastic gap on PCB in those areas?

What do you think of the Amprobe AM140-A? I got one for $180 and so far it seems to be a very nice meter, advertised digits and accuracy are both phenomenal compared to other similar priced meters.

Any info on caltek instrument meters?

I'm somewhat of a Fluke fan, but I'm very impressed. I'd say anyone considering a used Fluke for 100 dollars should also consider one of these.

Dave, from experience it is not so realistic to measure autorange speed by just shorting the probes together in ohms metering. I bought a GWInstek that is really fast at doing this but when you measure a higher resistor (in fact, higher than 0) it take ages to select the correct range. Horror.

Hi .. What stereomicroscope is it you use? I'd love a review of some, as I've recently ventured into the electronics business, and i find it really hard to find one with vga output on top of scope.

I tried to get a Brymen 860s here in the U.S. but cannot. I wrote the Company and they said.... We are Polish distributor of Brymen meters and we are focused on distribution in Europe. Regarding your question, as I checked main parameters, Greenly 860A is BM869s. So, you can order this item under Greenly brand.

this multimeter is obtained with the green lee brand the DM860A, but the DM830A is the same as the fluke 87 v with a little more functions these green lee multimeter are excellent nothing to compare to fluke

How much does Brymen charge the other manufacturers to rebatch the meters for them? There website looks like it’s from the mid 90´s....no wonder no one ever heard of them. But eh seems like they are making good mulitmeters.

How did you learn all these components and how they work? Im decent with electronics but when you get to these small printed boards i have no idea what im looking at.

Yea that uh , that uh BM 257 looks good , the backlight and the one screw back, Sure I will lose the screw immediatly but I can just wrap the open back in the rubber armor . I mean its not waterproof with or without the one screw back

After watching your video review on the Bremen bm257 I want one but finding it hard to purchase one, I think there's only one on eBay for over $200 including posting fee, do you know of any other places I can get one with better price

Meh, Brymen... would love one, but can't get them in the states .... Greenlee are available here but at the prices they charge it doesn't make sense not to get something else, like Agilent.

I thinkthat multimeter with the crappy backlight is ridiculous primarily because the company has other models as shown with impressive backlights

Hi Dave, Seeing the dual display high end Bryman meter here, just wondering if it, or any other meter can "dual display" both a voltage and current at the same time?

Our digital "smart" energymeter we got several years ago uses that same shitty way to light up its display, you can't read a damn thing on it. (I think it is an Iskra brand meter).

Well it's a Taiwanese company, that explains the "uniquely designed" packaging. Lots of Taiwanese company do make good stuff but their marketing is poor.

I've seen $3 meters with excellent backlights on them...this is terrible...

what a disgrace for a back light. For the money,they seriously should have made an effort to put in a decent back light. I know Spektrum RC transmitters sells their most popular Dx6i with no back light,most guys have no problem installing a light panel ( like I did). As far as I am concerned,that multimeter should have came without a back light for how useless it is. mabe someone will come up with a way to install a better set up.I have a Sears brand multimeter that I bought a while ago. Of course it is made by someone else but it has worked well for me,no complaints and does the job.
