EF 30163 and her Overhead Inspection Train ~ 30/11/2023 (HD)

On the last day of November, KiwiRail ran one of their refurbished 'EF class' electric locomotives on an inspection train up the central North Island Main Trunk, the purpose of which was to carry out a visual inspection of the overhead wires (from the cab of a diesel locomotive they brought with them).
Due to circumstances outside my control (mostly the ever-annoying roadworks), I was only able to film EF 30163 and DL 9665 while they stopped in the small town of Te Kuiti.
Railway electrification is a very rare thing in New Zealand. Electric locomotives or multiple units can only be found in Auckland, the central NIMT (between Hamilton and Palmerston North), Wellington and the Ferrymead Railway down in Christchurch.

It seems like your TSW reviews and critiques have garnered far more views than your real life videos, but personally, I really like seeing how trains operate in real life, especially in New Zealand.

I've certainly noticed the lower views on IRL videos, but it doesn't bother me because I still enjoy filming real railway activity.

Great video Callum, I know how feel with those roadworks, I couldn’t get as many shots of 30163 on 390 last week as I was hoping to due to the amount of roadworks.

You 'ought to see the sheer number of roadworks sites in Tauranga alone. I understand the importance of a well-maintained road, but the way they're going about it here is absolute madness. I seriously wonder if the council / contractors / whoever's in charge ever gives any remote consideration as to the massive effect it will have on all the people who drive cars or ride buses through these areas. Anyone would think that the authorities are under a mindset where they can drag out the work for as long as possible while not having to deal with any consequences.
