B Series Engines are pretty much synonymous with the EF Chassis as they're known to be the perfect combination. I was luck enough when I bought my Civic last year 2021 to have it swapped already. However, it has been badly in need of a refresh and removing the head shows just how poor the condition of the engine is.

Dual Valve springs came stock on those motors. I think the auto equipped motors had them only on the intake side. If this is a first Gen B16. Honestly that head looks pretty normal for a Honda that’s been running pretty rich. Clean the head, resurface and have it pressure tested. New HONDA head bolts or ARP studs. Cometic makes great MLS head gaskets! Nice work man!

It is a firstGen! It’s a 1990 B16. I think based on everything else I’ve seen on the car so far, it came out of a JDM DA Integra.

@@the4thgen_tfl yea. If that Integra was an auto I believe they would have had dual springs on the intake side only. Of course it’s been awhile since I have messed with Hondas but I know they come standard with them.

Thanks for the info man! Really nice to know that. I’ve got a full Cometic kit I’ll be putting in the engine so I’ll be getting it all back together pretty soon.

@@the4thgen_tfl sounds good! Hopefully you were able to get some new Honda head bolts or some arp studs. Also forgot to mention, you can set the bottom end back on the “ZERO” mark on the crank pulley before putting the head back on and then line up the cam marks accordingly.
