Today we will briefly go over some important steps to rebuilding your first engine. If this video doesn;t put you to sleep then give it a like! Instagram:Mitonfilms
I am local to the area (just north of the MD/PA line) and I am SO glad I found this video!! having some local companies referred is great. good info. Keep it up man, I'll be watching your other vids!
Scored a B16A2 long block for a few hundred due to a spun bearing, looking forward to rebuilding my first B series. I’ve done a SBC in the past but first time doing a B series. Pretty stoked to tear it apart and get the build going.
I have a 97 gs non vtech just switched the. Valve cover gasket and spark plug gaskets bcuz almost all 4 spark plugs had oil... now the problem is that there’s smoke coming out the tail pipe could it be the oil that got in through the spark plug gasket leak
Hey guys, What is a good recommended b18c1 build for daily driver. I want something more robust . reliable. doesnt burn oil. and something alittle better than stock but yet still reliable as OEM. I was also wondering what header do you have for your motor right now. what size collector is the header , and are you running a test or pipe or stock cat?
Good vid, should come in handy. Still debating on debating my k20a2 or just swap a jdm k20a... maybe rebuilding and beefing up the internals on my stock motor.
Few points to add for buying parts individually or unassembled: -Be sure you know the bore diameter of the block you are buying. For example b18c1 81mm bore is stock if you measure 82mm it’s been bored twice. You will need to sleeve if the 82mm walls are bad. -Check the threaded holes for condition all around the engine block and cylinder head. -no crank journal or cam caps with block or head , move on. -clean clean clean everything before assembly, all it takes is one piece of junk to ruin a motor. Even after it comes back from the machine shop, specifically the cylinder head coolant passages. - have the machine shop check block first before buying pistons. For deck height and bore.
You inspired me to start a small series of boosting my motor to 2.4 l I want some tips on cameras music the channel is dc2 rhd Integra I did a short video of the status of the car right now it's still 87x 97 stroke
Alot of times when you hear these hondas tapping and rattling. Even when the person keeps up maintenance. That's the oil pump going out. Its raire that Honda oil pumps actually just drop all at once. But they lose pressure quite often. And cause premature wear in the top end. Especially when you try running a turbo and oil cooler.
I'm going sent it my first engine build it's a b18b but crank shaft got me thinking I can see a scratch at cl 2 my finger nail get stock on a little spot it's bad?
Could you do a H Series vs K series video? I am looking into getting a Prelude 5th gen but I just wanna know what you think in them is all.. Edit: I know you did the HKJ video but just wanted to know the pros and cons between those two specifically more in depth and which is easier to work on and build overtime
or what about someone who doesn't want to spend a lot on Nippon pistons, and use just used oem pistons and rods, just replace rings with npr or king bearings, or getting a used oem crank from the junkyard, and have it worked on at the machine shop
You really couldnt find any videos on re building a b series!? Evans tuning has a great very in depth (3 videos) that includes blueprinting, very helpful. I also have a whole series of building my ls vtec (shameless plug) but im sure they will be hard to find as im sure im on the bottom of the search.
I’m buying a b18c soon right now I have a b18b1 with gsr transmission and I’m buying a second motor to teach my self how build and put together a Honda motor this winter
JDMTurboful I guess I’m said it wrong I’m pulling the b18b out of my teggy then putting the b18c in there and new ecu etc for a full swap Then teaching my self on the b18b
I’m in a similar situation ... I have a b16 on a gsr trans, I’m about to pick up a b18c1 and put my b16 head on it, basically teach myself how to do it
lol I already have that book, and my old B18C4+S9B LSD MB6 civic that I no longer daily drive....always wanted to put it into a EG, but would probably make b20vtec or stroke it to make it worth the money, stock b18 is not THAT fast...still love the b-series engines, sound much better then k-series to me
So I’m a complete noob to the Honda game and the whole engine rebuild game in general, but I’ve found an integra type r that has got a spun rod bearing on piston 1, needs a new crank and connecting rod, as well as bearings. How difficult/expensive would it be, and would it be better to replace all the bearings/conrods while the engine is apart.
just get a brand new set of rods and pistons and rings. Replace the bearings and get a new to you crankshaft (used that doesn't have any dings or scratches in it) Have a shop assemble the rotating assembly and do the rest yourself. Download the Honda b series guide book off the app store and the rest is explained there
Miton Films you can glue a marker to the valve and spin in back and forth in your hands like you're starting a fire with a stick. Easy way to seat the valves.
Lol I just found a suction cup tool online. That's probably what you used and I'm sure its easier than my method. I didn't even know that existed. I used hot glue and a marker when building a dirt bike engine.
I love your videos man but i would never use harbor freight tools to assemble and engine (torque, etc.), or measure anything with a product from harbor freight, thats just my opinion. When i went to tech school we re used the rods and pistons in a oem rebuild, but we had to go through and measure all compents to see if they where still in oem spec to be used again.
+Caleb Johnson i agree. And that is why if you look on the sheet i checked each piston height 5 times. And for my torque wrench i used tekton not harbor freight.
This engine and car is gone. I'm currently awaiting for my ITR to arrive. Check out some of my newer videos. Due to covid, probably won't be meeting anyone any time soon.
Matthew Aceves I got you homie, here’s the link Xtreme Honda B-Series Engines HP1552 by Richard Holdeneritunes.apple.com/us/book/xtreme-honda-b-series-engines-hp1552/id357927184?mt=11
You do not need a new crank or pistons the machine shop would mana flux the ones you pull out and know if there is any issues. Then they will check diameter of main and rod journals polish crank and order the correct bearings. Rings you will need to file fit them.
I have to say hondas are probably the most simple engine to work on especially in the engine bay. I had to do a headgasket job on my 91 240sx having never cracked an engine before and it was fucking infuriating at some points. You would think the engineers did stuff just to fuck with the mechanics who would be fixing it.
It's funny though because the people selling the book were making money from it. I don't gain anything from helping you learn about how to rebuild.🤣 It was a very useful resource.
Increasing bore could just end up making you have to buy pistons or rings. Unless you wanna burn more oil than prior rebuild. So yeah. I agree man. I do recommend the honing tho. And I rarely deck a block either unless it was run hot or something. I just hit it with a plastic buff pad. It will clean it. Polish it. Bit doesn't scratch or put or anything like that.
"Theres another video where 2 minutes in they goto an ad for a book" a minute and a half into this video he proceeds to tell us to buy a book.....😔 smdh
Thanks for understanding, Filming every single bit of rebuilding an engine would take multiple videos. I just wanted to summarize what had to be done to as you said guide people in the Right direction
Its like in grade school when the whole class had to take turns reading from the book aloud and the teacher picked that 1 kid that couldnt really read and everyone was like F@*# he just say?! Ony thing I could really understand was him pitching that book to buy.
How to rebuild your engine. Step 1. Pay someone to machine you're block. Step 2. Pay someone to assemble the bottom end. Step 3. Pay someone to assemble a head or buy one per assembled. Step 4. Put the head on the engine and you have successfully rebuilt you're engine. Why say this is is a video to rebuild you're engine. It should be a video of how to open you're wallet and pay someone to do it for you. Xavier Nunn~built not bought. Not saying you dont know what you're doing bruh. I just saying this is a video on how to rebuild you're engine but you complained how hard everything is and to just take it to someone else, making everyone scared to even take their dipstick out. You didnt rebuild in this video. You assembled what someone else already rebuilt.... and you are a hypocrite with the whole book thing. I need not explain.
