Proper dust extraction for my Killerbee CNC has been on the project list since I built the machine. My first attempt did not work and then I forgot about the issue for a few years thanks to the enclosure. But now that I have a full dust extraction system in my workshop it was only right to also include the CNC. In this video, I show you my journey of how I arrived at my final design.

Today happens to mark my 9 year anniversary on RU-vid, can you believe it! How long have you been subscribed for?

Maybe you can use thumb screws for adjusting the height of your dust shoe.

You don't need a ring around your spindel on the plate. If you saw off the part between the spindel and the mounting extrusion - you will be able to slide the whole plate from the front instead of pulling it down. The plate will loose some structural integrity probably, but it does not need it anyway.

You're mostly right, though what might not be quite visible on video is that the cutout around the spindle is bigger in the fixed piece as this allows for it to slide up further and giving more height adjustability. If the lower part is then cut out wider there would be a quite sizable gap when it is not at the highest position. But it might be worth a small redesign of the top piece that has a stepped design to cover these areas.

@@DarkArtGuitars You obviously know better. But as a general idea - I would expect a front slide as a consumer of such device. Magnetic or not. In any case, great job! Keep up the good work!

It would certainly be better. The current design doesn't work with it but with a small modification it would. If I ever remake it I'll include it.@@pickrelated3015

In an earlier video you showed an air hose? Would it make sense to add that to the mix, to blow the dust away from the bit and towards the hose? Couldn't help but wonder if a completely different design would work in a cabinet using a far larger fan to push all the dust created towards the one side where a long thin outlet you collect it?

There is already a lot of air movement so blowing the chips is not necessary, though if you were to cut acrylic or aluminum a lot it might make sense to use compressed air for cooling. The other idea might work, but there are so many different things for it to get caught on that it seems like a lot of trouble for mixed results. It would be interesting to see though.

Good Anniversary and nice work. But at 19:50 and 20:05 it seems to flex a lot, is it normal ?

That is the problem with the bristles, when the CNC moves down there is a force and while they are quite soft, it still takes a bit. As long as only the dust shoe flexes that is not an issue, but depending on how rigid the machine is, this can affect accuracy. The solution would be to raise the dust shoe higher, but then it is also less effective. It's always a tradeoff.
