This is the first test of my home made EFHW multiband antenna in the real conditions. I was made an inverted V fashion of this wire antenna in my cottage garden. Antenna was set in very difficult conditions - low elevation and very close to the building so at least we could see how it works also in this difficult situations :) Even the propagations was poor, you can see QRP QSO's I made with XIEGU X5105, 5W and this antenna. QSO's in this videos with OK1DSX/p, YU1ACR/p, DK2UC, DJ2DX - thank you guys for contacts! ;)
I hope you will enjoy this video ;) If you like please don't forget subscribe to my channel ;) Thanks for watching!

Good Job, Paul. Just one hint: when I build linked EFHW I start with the shortest wire and measure and cut it to resonance plus the linkage. Then I connect the next wire and do the same, and so on. This way it’s much easier to make some corrections if needed. 73 de Rico, DG5BQ

Hi Paul Just a year ago, I talk to you about 1:49 and 1:64 Ununs and end fed halv wave antennas. A year ago the information about EFHW was rare, at least for me, off course. Now you has build the Unun and the antenna, and the two videos shows very good performance. As showed, EFHW and the Unun are ease to reproduce.Yours videos are very clear about building the Unun and the antenna at home. Good to note that EFHW is a cheap antenna. Congratulation, Paul. Thanks for your continuous effort to bring us many technical and pratical news . May this EFHW antenna be a good station addition for you and for many others interested fellows hams. 73 From Brazil, PP1RD Fernando

Great one, I like the design. Maybe I see it as a candidate for permanent installation using those boxes on each band step with relays inside. There could be a controller near transceiver with autoswitch based on FRQ of TCVR. That is only my opinion, your realisation is also great and I will probably build something similar for my upcoming G90 from Xiegu, because I fell in love with QRP based on your videos :) 73 DE OM4ADA

Hi Paul, I'm glad to see your build of the EFHW 80-10 antenna and this your last test of them. So, I'd like to know if you did some kind of tests about a new lenghts of entire wire, because what I saw was the wires were few long then the ressonance's QRG. So, if is possible short them to mach the point of your parts (80m, 60m, 40, 30m etc... sessions), it seems a good idea to fix it to close to 1:1 SWR on each band. Whats up? Furthermore, I wish you congrats for your class and receive my best 73 from PR7TU. On time: EFWH are great Jokers to field days and so ones... NICE ANTENNA!

Paul, I can't help but feel you should start at 10 meters about 28.500 Mhz and resonate the antennna for the lowest SWR there. Then move up band by band to center the resonance in the middle of each band....24.950, 21.300, 18.150, 14.225, 10.115, 7.150, 5.335 and 3.700 Mhz. In that order. I know for your setup using a tuner it may be not that big of deal but it looks like this antenna could really dip in for every band. The thing is just so intriging a design I can't help but think what if you could put some real power to this design. Terry, KI7M

Hi Paul, thank you for the video. I'm using a linked dipole for 6, 10, 12, 15, 17, 20, 30, 40m and I'm very impressed of the results. I would like to try this antenna. But a linked half wave endfed would be better in vertical position because of the best emission at the end of the antenna. So on 40, 60 and 80m in your configuration your emmission would be more to earth than to air. Inverted V is not optimal for end-fed antennas. Perhaps try a high tree or pole for this antenna at least as a sloper . That would be a great antenna. But you need a good mechanim to put it up and down for changing the band :-) Greetings from Northern Germany Martin DG4BAD

Excellent results Paul! By keeping the antenna low to the ground, you will probably see good NVIS characteristics on 80 and perhaps 60 meters (regional coverage up to ~750 km radius). We used a similar linked antenna in the Swedish military with our Ra195 (PRC-104) and it worked flawlessly. (I'm a former reconnaissance diver or 'Amphibious LRRP' = 'long range reconnaissance patrol'). I also note that you're using a SLR bag for your radio gear. Same here. I often carry my G90 with Raspberry Pi, Android tablet or mini laptop plus LiFePo battery and antenna in an old Lowepro SLR bag. Perfect match and very 'stealthy' ! 😊 Have you explored JS8Call yet? With this low sun activity the weak signal digital modes are really fascinating. I'm often heard both in continental US, South America and the Caribbean and sometimes as far as Antarctica, Australia and South Africa with my G90 on 10-20 W even now in November with low sun activity. Hope to see you there soon! ☺️
@OM0ET
@OM0ET 3 года назад
Thanks Michael! I heard about JS8Call, but never tested before. Digital is not my favorite mode :) I love SSB, but sometimes I do FT8 when is boring on the empty bands :D 73 and thanks for comment! Paul
@michaelfuchs1467
@michaelfuchs1467 3 года назад
@@OM0ET JS8Call is FT8 but with a 'chat layer' added on top. You can actually make TRUE keyboard QSO's with it, not just automated 'click-QSO's' as in FT8 but also do some 'rag chewing' or exchanging valuable information. I'm researching it (and writing proof-of-concept software) for EMCOMM purposes and it's very promising. 100% copy at snr below -20dB is common.

One thing that concerns me about this that the wooden "isolators" are actually wooden "joinery biscuits." These are used in woodworking and joinery, furnituremaking etc. And they are used inside of slotted joints to glue the wooden joints together, using water based glues. These joinery biscuits are made of compressed wood chips. They are very sensitive to water or moisture. They are definitely not meant to be used outdoors. And no amount of varnish or lacquer, paint or oil will make them waterproof. You need to use something waterproof for this application; ceramic, plastic, glass etc. Definitely not to use these wooden joinery buscuits. They will disintegrate in an outdoors or wet application. Otherwise, thank you for your thorough, concise presentations. No disrespect intended here.

what happens to your antenna, if you need a biscuit? I like the idea of having it cut exactly for each band. it looks easy to connect / disconnect bands as needed 👍

I don't see why you need the plastic connectors. Wouldn't it be easier to tie off each given length directly to the wooden insulator allowing just enough to then connect to the next length using the metal clips that you have. I doing that would decrease bulk, weight, and improve the strength. Nice job. Good videos as always.
