Woooo hoooooo I flew My Air Tractor for the first time just now. I was a nervous wreck and it flew just like the real thing. Very little correction little elevator and a little right rudder and it was good to go. Landing it on my sandy driveway proved to be a challenge as you have to power through the Landing but I'm stoked Thanks for the encouragement man

Don't worry if it's finicky to get right, you're probably not doing anything wrong. The full size 502 is just as strange with flaps and trim as the scale version, if not more so. It's speed dependent...meaning, if you're flying 110mph and start dropping flaps, you're going to nose up and you need just about full down trim on the elevator to keep it level. If you wait to drop them at 90mph or so, you don't need to touch the trim, it likes flying at this speed. Below 80mph full up trim is not enough to keep the nose level. It's an inherently unstable aircraft in all axis and the control harmony is so off that you basically precede all aileron input with rudder first. It flies nose heavy at certain speeds and tail heavy at certain speeds, and this changes depending on how much AOA you're putting on the wing. What this means is that the tail will feel like it's falling out from under you in a turn and will try to tighten the turn by itself. Flaps help alleviate the issue some. It's just a really odd airplane to fly.

I found a fix for the bouncy landings: just side-drill some 12 or so holes with a 6mm diameter into the tires and this will smooth out your landings and not affect the tire life span if done far away from the tire outside. It did this some 2 years ago and flown frequently after that with way better landings. A neat quick fix to the problem and it even looks kinda nice. Btw: I really like the air tractor and its sound. also low passes are a treat. and I don't even have a 4s lipo yet (I fly it on 3s 2200mah). Only thing I would say: A Timber (X) is way more willing to do rolls and loops. I feel much more comfortable doing stuff like that with my Timber X UMX.. But the air tractor is still capable to do light 3d and if I ever put a 4s in it - even more so.

Having grown up in west Texas where there is a lot of aerial spraying, I've always had a soft spot in my heart for this one. I'm not sure why it fell off my radar screen, but suffice it to say that my interest is resurrected. I'll likely be purchasing one soon. As always, thanks much for sharing. Steve

On my 3rd Air Tractor , first 2 had unplanned landings , too slow to low tip stalled . Shit happens , Now fitted with a Hobby King Bomb for a laugh and carbon u/c also from Hobby King. Bomb scares the crap out of my mates at the flying field . Have fitted 12x6 2 bladed prop also hard linked the tail wheel / rudder (ditched the stupid springs ) Using 4S 4250mAh battery which gives 15+ minutes of flying Just love the little wee beasty

Had a full scale pass over my garage a couple years ago. I took my car about a block dow n the street and watched him spray!!! Those guys got bid balls! Those stall turns are amazing to watch when it is a full size plane and not some RC model! This plane (RC) is cool though. Like it a lot.

I had a very similar thing happen with my flap/elevator mix. I used the set up recommended in the manual for the flap set up. -100 for up, 0 for half flaps, and +100 for full flaps. After flying i had the same thing happen, a slight pitch up with half flaps and then a significant downward motion with full flaps. After my first day of flying and not ever getting the mix to work, I went home and read in the manual that the recommended trailing edge motion of the flaps was supposed to be 10mm for half flaps and 20mm for full flaps. Mine were moving 18mm for half and 37mm for full. So, I adjusted the flap settings on my transmitter to have the flaps only move the 10 and 20mm amounts. Reset the down elevator mix to what was in the manual, took it back out, and it flew perfect. It was also a lot easier to land now that the flaps were deploying the correct distances. Hope this helps anyone who is getting this plane. I love the way it flies.

I recommend ca glue on the horizontal and fuselage, it really tightens it up and elevator trim remains constant.

i replace my landing gears with Dubro gear and low bounce wheels and it helps a lot with the bounce.

I have had one of these for about a year now and its one my favorites to fly. I think it flies better than the timber but thats just imo

Growing up in an agricultural area and watching crop dusters doing their thing as a kid, this plane actually speaks to me more than the Timber, or even the ubiquitous "warbirds". Besides, there are a ton of planes along the same lines of the Timbers, with just small variations and graphic changes, so this is something different. So, aesthetically I think this plane is PERFECT. And the flight characteristics seem good too, once you get the mixing dialed. Unfortunately, the landing characteristics don't seem so great. Is this a factor of the aerodynamics, or the wheels/gear? If this was corrected, this would definitely be in my hangar, and possibly one of my favorite planes ever....

Question... Would the plane land a little bit better with a different set of tires such as a softer set of Dubro's ? What aftermarket wheels for this aircraft would you recommend for asphalt runways? Are there any decent bouncy sets worth a swap?

Real crop dusters fly with a nose down attitude this helps the spray bar applicators work better as the prop wash helps spread the chemicals.

Not sure if this should go public but here goes. Do you want to be the hit of RU-vid. Start working on the rocket eject parachute for your Draco. Or servo release parachute. And then release the parachute. And then start flying again. Like to see that video

Hey Brian, does yours drop the left wing at stall. Mine can and radically so going through a turn and a half and 20 feet of altitude. Nothing seems misrigged, could it be another issue like a servo or safe or whatever?

You can do a second review on the Habu. I just got mine in the mail yesterday. Trying to set up the free flight trainer was not fun. Does the real habu fly just like the flight trainer? So far I can do pretty good with safe and intermediate mode. But the expert mode I can last about 15 seconds ha ha. Gave up flying 20 or so years ago. Trying to convert all my crystal to new bind in fly.

Hi I also want to buy the air tractor, but I read in English forums that there should be all sorts of problems, especially with the tail unit and the wings. Someone also had problems with the elevator, because the tail unit is said to be warped. I would hate to waste 329 euros and buy good luck. Can you confirm these issues?sry my english is bad

I was having fun with mine and doing very low speed rudder turns. Then I found out just how slow it could go. Yep, it fell out of the sky. I did what any serious RC Pilot would do. I said, OH SHIT, then proceeded to laugh.

It is sooooo ugly... but based upon my 1.5 years of experience , I believe it is probably the perfect plane for my area. Seems capable. It has lights, and flaps and 4S. All of the things I wish some of the nicer looking planes had that would be suitable for my area. I wish the new T-28 1.2 had lights. It's not the same with the light kits.

I love e-flight but o don’t like that there pushing there over priced battery’s down your throat. I get that it brings telemetry and all that but to me I just see it as a little unnecessary, because although I’m jus know getting into air planes in the rc world I have already been into buggy’s and event did a hand full of races. And with e-flight making everything with ic-3 just is super annoying because if you give in then you have spec bats that if your not running spec tec are just any other bat and the charger to me is not worth it. Yes you just plug in but my balance charger for less money is two clicks and it’s charging. But I do get it and if I didn’t care about the price I would go for spec bats because they are grate but for the price I just do t think that if your an average hobbyist with more then just spec tec it’s not worth it. (Yes adapters exist but they create more resistance and heat)
