These things should be illegal for steelhead. I like to dry dropper them under a caddis in clear water for steelies. Just keep adjusting the depth of the egg till you find the depth they are suspended at.

@@richardjones2129 that steelhead candy pattern is a funny one. I have years I crush them on that and then next year I can’t buy a fish on them. I can’t explain it other than I just might not fish it with confidence on the tough days. This Eggstacy I fish with abandon cause they are so easy to tie I can tie tons of them and not care if I lose them.

@@HolsingersFlyShop I haven't fished the stlhd candy n a couple yrs but it wrkd well. I plan on tying ot as well as hares earned egg, trout candy n the stone n eggs as I like the results I had. Hope this season pans out try them w/the eggstacy. I've some spawn beds that I fish the tailouts w/great results! I will use the tip u gave me as it'll b easier 2 fish than adding weight 2 my tippet. Size ten will work but finicky trout will prefer them smaller. Also you can tie them on any size hook. I only make 4 or at the most 5 wraps of the material and tie it off

Dale Spencer this is a killer pattern for stocked trout. It’s one of my go to flies for stockies.

Just used this today at Abiquiu dam , it was fucking slaying those stockers

Tanon Mein for steelhead I would use this hook. If there are salmon in the river and I need a stronger hook I use a daiichi X510 size 10 which is the smallest size in that brand of hook.

Honestly I use .015 for just about everything. It’s not to big and not to small and if I need more or thicker I just wrap it back over itself. I would definitely use .015 for this to keep the underbody thin.

@@HolsingersFlyShop thank you! Do you prefer tungsten bead heads or brass because of the likelihood of losing so many?

@@mattmcmillen7039 tungsten all day long. I’m a euro guy and tungsten is my weight I don’t use split shot on my line. The tungsten is considerably heavier and sinks faster so it’s worth it to me.
