You're the first tier that I've seen who just snaps off the tag end of the thread instead of using scissors when starting the fly. It just makes sense and saves a step. Anything that saves time when tying is a good habit to have. Good job.

Thanks for the comments, Bobby, and that works well with certain thread types. I love tying with Semperfli Nano Silk...which doesn't tear! You and I think alike, every second is valuable, especially when it's time to fish. ;-) Tim www.troutandfeather.com

Thanks Tim. Great video. This pattern is good for "stockers" all year around. Not just fall. It can be successfully fished in low water conditions as well. With low water conditions I will sight cast to picky trout.. When I can do longer see the "pink salmon" color, I will set the hook. For low water and slow moving runsI will typically eliminate the bead.

Dry flys are my passion,but sometimes to catch fish you have to do what you have to do. Glo bugs and their variations work so don't feel uneasy Tim and keep up the excellant videos.

There was a time when I would look down on an egg fly or a squirmy wormy and now that I am older and maybe wiser I realized - fuck it I want to catch some trout. So I put down the brier pipe and filled my box with eggstasy and mops and worm flies. And when the Latin bugs don't want to come out and play I still have a chance. I also moved out of Cambridge MA.

Thanks, Jerome, and it's up to you for dubbing with flash. I do like a little flash in certain patterns (like a Hare's Ear), especially when the water has some color to it. I also love a peacock dubbing with flash...so yes, go with some! Tim www.troutandfeather.com

Tim, I have found the same to be true...early season stock trout seem to readily take the egg patterns where I fish in Northern PA. I normally use the Blood Dot pattern but may try this one too.

I'm coming a bit late to the party, but I was wondering if you've tried Devin Olsen's Taco Tungsten Egg (same as yours, except the bead is hidden within the Eggstacy material). If you have, how do you compare the two versions of this fly?

Hi Tim, I've been veeeery slow to shift to eggs, but I just saw a George Daniel video and he said it was his go to fly in the winter, and Devin also likes it so I'm thinking that the three of you most know something ! I was wondering , in water where you don't have salmon are are imitating trout eggs specifically, do you downsize the hooks ? Thanks much, stay safe, Bob
@TimCammisa
@TimCammisa 3 года назад
That decision depends on the water type and other factors, such as conditions and types of fish you're chasing. Generally, I love to fish eggs from #12 - 20, depending on the time of year. Remember, they may not only be imitating salmon eggs, but other species of fish inhabiting the water. Thanks for checking, Bob, and hope all is well! Tim www.troutandfeather.com

@@TimCammisa Tiers should keep in mind that mcfly foam floats. You need a bead or split shot when you fish them. They do tie well in small sizes.

Great pattern. I usually use egg patterns, squirmy wormy... as last resorts, but find it a shame that like so many other issues these days so many folks have an "all or none" mentality. I catch and release nearly always, but once or twice a year I'll bring home some to eat as well. I have no objections to others doing whatever they want as long as it is legal.
@TimCammisa
@TimCammisa 6 лет назад
I know what you mean, Fred, and my original mentality came from some of my early mentors. At the end of the day, it's up for fly fishermen to decide what they want to use, and I'm fine with that (assuming that we don't judge one another). Thanks for taking a moment to comment...and I love those Squirmy Wormies, too! Tim www.troutandfeather.com

I don't see the difference between eggs and worms vs bugs..... if it's a good source in a river and I can tie it up I will. Seems silly to me that people look down on these types of flies. Thanks for the tutorial.
@TimCammisa
@TimCammisa 4 года назад
You and I are absolutely on the same page, Tyson, and thanks for mentioning this. An egg pattern is something I wouldn't have fished a lot when I first started and I feel it's important to share my own thoughts, especially how I've grown as a tier and fly fisherman. More importantly, perhaps I shouldn't even bring up the notion that many do "look down" @ these patterns, though I chose to because I want to be realistic and acknowledge that segment exists. My approach has been simple: Include all. At the end of the day, the real beauty of fly tying is that we get to pick and choose what we want, and if others have different patterns to tie and fish, that's their choice (and you and I can catch all of the fish on this one!). ;-) Thanks again for taking a moment to comment, and I hope to hear from you on some of my other videos.
