Come with me as I walk around Don Mils and Eglinton at the Science Centre Station, then head east to look for trains in testing. Will we find any?

It seems strange that they have a software issue this late in the game. When the first batch of Flexities were delivered for the Waterloo Region ION LRT, they had software issues that reduced the functionality of the train control and delayed opening of the line. You would think that should have taken care of any issues for Eglinton Crosstown.

That's interesting, I guess there is also the uniqueness of each line. Because of all the one time unique interactions along the Golden Mile, it may require tweaking. But you would have imagined given the timescale that this would have been modelled in detail already. Of course, I don't know what tools are used in this kind of project.

This is far from the most complex software on earth. The fact that it's taking this long to fix software is very strange. It's not as though they are inventing it. At this point I feel there are other reasons not disclosed.

The railroad trellis is the CP Rail main line through all of Toronto. It was built in the 1920's I go under it in Sunnybrook Park frequently but I've forgotten exactly when it was constructed.

Judging by the way things are going, I'm convinced that it could open next year. If no opening date is announced by the end of June, then there is your answer.

it looks like they've pretty much haulted work on finishes. No evident reason those minor things would not be complete by now... it's a bit ridiculous.

Maybe they are deliberately delaying completing the final details of the stations so that people won't ask "Why isn't the Crosstown open yet? The stations look finished."

I believe I read they would have 2 cars coupled together to start, with the ability to add a 3rd car in the future if demand increases.

yeah i think the platforms are long enough for 3-car trains, but honestly im not surprised if they will be running them soon if it gets hella crowded

UP was HILARIOUS at first, then they lowered it and we all started using it to go from just Union Station to bloor station in the West End. What a godsend

If you live in the Western part of the city its also perfect for Blue Jays Games. They should just expand it east and north would really eat into airport car trips.

I think it’s a great wee train. At 15min headways it’s a no brainer if I’m heading to Front St area.

This whole city needs 8 lines all elevated track like in Chicago but better with modern finish and parts of it can be convertible and all stations to have different themes and at the bottom can be take way restaurants n shops 😎😎💯 no traffic hindrance

Finch just completed its first full run of the line, construction wise it seems further along than crosstown regarding finishes etc.

It’s definitely possible at this point. It’s a little bit more basic operation as well. I wouldn’t be surprised.

It is pretty close to a 100% Finch will open in 2024, while there is a pretty close to 0% chance the Incompetence Line along Eglinton will open prior to 2025.

I checked funnily enough. The Edinburgh trams are Spanish I think. These are Allstom. They all look quite similar though.

When the Science Centre moves to Ontario Place the Science Centre station will be renamed Don Mills. The current Don Mills station will be renamed Fairview Mall.

They backtracked on the decision to reduce UP service. It would have been a huge mistake

The UP proposal is to replace it with every 15 minute trains on the GO line to Kitchener. So service would be just as frequent. And would be better as would be free if you are transferring from TTC - using the new integrated fare in the city.

I noticed some new construction barriers at Dundas West Station Line 2 station for the pedestrian connection to Bloor UP last weekend. Be nice if the fares were integrated but the current cost is quite different.

Some lucky individual made a short video of a 3-unit Crosstown train at Eglinton and Sloane in June 2021. According to Steve Munro, it will be many years in the future before we regularly see such long trains. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7nHX9iAXsN4.html

I cut out a wee bit of the video where I was commenting on the “heavy duty” looking catenaries. I thought maybe the traction power was heavier than usual but apparently not.
