This channel is dedicated to Technology, Transportation, Urbanism and more.
I have several interests in transportation and tech. This can range from 4x4s to electric cars, bicycles, trains, walking, and any form of tech you can think of.
I have some older stuff from a channel I used to have called grammin4x4overland in a separate playlist and all new videos will be under the grammin brand.
I am expanding my videos to talk about tech, transportation, and more from Toronto and the surrounding area as well.
Please subscribe and I hope you enjoy the channel.
Don’t quote me but it’s a new symbol from Metrolinx that identifies transit within their operating jurisdiction, for lack of a better term, as part of the their wayfinding strategy. Not sure to what extent it will be applied with regard to existing GO, UP, TTC etc.
they should extend finch to the airport, also connect the convention hall and the casino while their at it. A total no brainer. Don’t know why a finch west extension wasn’t being built at the same time like crosstown. it would’ve been done already!
@@gramminI think they’ll extend it to Woodbine Racetrack and have a new GO station there too. A bit too close proximity to Etobicoke North (maybe it will be omitted), which will necessitate it being sent to Pearson
Yes, Etobicoke North will be closing and replaced by Woodbine GO, which will be new Line 6 terminus. Tho an eventual extension to YYZ - if they build a proper transit centre for Line 5, Line 6, and thru trains for GO (Kitchener Line - by then UP will be redundant as GO running every 15 mins or better).
Was waiting for you to mention Oshawa Airport (CYOO) as well for the drone situation :) they will interfere with my jets lol Always appreciate your content and updates! Hopefully a worthy update on the Eglinton West extension soon.
Most Uni and college campuses have locations where you can reach security or for emergencies. For people who are out late by themselves perhaps and may need assistance.
Thanks for the update Grammin. The airport in downtown Toronto is the Billy Bishop Airport named after the world war one flying ace (I forgot how many German planes he shot down).
When the Science Centre moves to Ontario Place the Science Centre station will be renamed Don Mills. The current Don Mills station will be renamed Fairview Mall.
I know why Metrolinx projects take 4 to 5 times longer than they should. It's simple. It's money !! The Stouffville Line from Unionville to Scarborough could have been double tracked and platformed 2 years ago; I've been following it. There's perhaps 30 projects, and only money to do 5 projects intensely and quickly. So the Gov't does a little on A, then a little on B, and then to C, and then to D, and then to E, and to F. Then they come back and work on A again. Witness Exhibition Station. They were grading the Ontario Line, and moved tracks 1 and 2 to the north for the Express centre platform. Now there is almost no construction there, and the space between tracks 2 and 3 is not getting a centre platform yet. At this rate, we will have electric, 15 minute interval service on the Hamilton, Bramalea, Maple, Unionville, and Oshawa destinations in about 30 years, The workers often look like they were in slow mo also. When they do a project, like the Davenport Flyover, it can be done quite quickly; that is proof of my theory. Aarre Peltomaa of Mississauga, Ontario peltomaa.aarre@gmail.com (647) 202-7267
This whole city needs 8 lines all elevated track like in Chicago but better with modern finish and parts of it can be convertible and all stations to have different themes and at the bottom can be take way restaurants n shops 😎😎💯 no traffic hindrance
The UP proposal is to replace it with every 15 minute trains on the GO line to Kitchener. So service would be just as frequent. And would be better as would be free if you are transferring from TTC - using the new integrated fare in the city.
I noticed some new construction barriers at Dundas West Station Line 2 station for the pedestrian connection to Bloor UP last weekend. Be nice if the fares were integrated but the current cost is quite different.
Judging by the way things are going, I'm convinced that it could open next year. If no opening date is announced by the end of June, then there is your answer.
I cut out a wee bit of the video where I was commenting on the “heavy duty” looking catenaries. I thought maybe the traction power was heavier than usual but apparently not.
UP was HILARIOUS at first, then they lowered it and we all started using it to go from just Union Station to bloor station in the West End. What a godsend
If you live in the Western part of the city its also perfect for Blue Jays Games. They should just expand it east and north would really eat into airport car trips.
@@glassowaterful yesssss when I'm exhausted from a convention or something and I just want to get home without dealing with the subway it's worth every penny of that extra like dollar and a half or something
It seems strange that they have a software issue this late in the game. When the first batch of Flexities were delivered for the Waterloo Region ION LRT, they had software issues that reduced the functionality of the train control and delayed opening of the line. You would think that should have taken care of any issues for Eglinton Crosstown.
That's interesting, I guess there is also the uniqueness of each line. Because of all the one time unique interactions along the Golden Mile, it may require tweaking. But you would have imagined given the timescale that this would have been modelled in detail already. Of course, I don't know what tools are used in this kind of project.
This is far from the most complex software on earth. The fact that it's taking this long to fix software is very strange. It's not as though they are inventing it. At this point I feel there are other reasons not disclosed.
It is pretty close to a 100% Finch will open in 2024, while there is a pretty close to 0% chance the Incompetence Line along Eglinton will open prior to 2025.
it looks like they've pretty much haulted work on finishes. No evident reason those minor things would not be complete by now... it's a bit ridiculous.
Maybe they are deliberately delaying completing the final details of the stations so that people won't ask "Why isn't the Crosstown open yet? The stations look finished."
Some lucky individual made a short video of a 3-unit Crosstown train at Eglinton and Sloane in June 2021. According to Steve Munro, it will be many years in the future before we regularly see such long trains. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7nHX9iAXsN4.html
The railroad trellis is the CP Rail main line through all of Toronto. It was built in the 1920's I go under it in Sunnybrook Park frequently but I've forgotten exactly when it was constructed.
That’s an awesome project. I saw dig sites when in Toronto last week. It’s like the REM, here in Montréal, and the Vancouver skytrain. Automation reduces operating costs. I would love a station at Cherry, to serve the new port land development.
Nice to see you back! Time to come back to Yonge and Eglinton - they have finally made major progress there since your last video. Also, Metrolinx just released a video showing that the Finch LRT is basically done. Might be worth a trip as well.
Thanks Stephen, I’ll try to get over there. I was up at the Humber station the other day. Looks totally done. I was hoping to see some trains but alas. Shouldn’t be too long I hope. Hurontario LRT (HM) is lagging quite a bit as well. All the works are around the MSF but not a great spot to visit.
Hurontario LRT should probably see a lot of progress this year but I think it’s likely a 2026 opening. I’ve heard rumours that Metrolinx is going to open both Finch and Eglinton at the same time - which I guess would make sense in terms of updating signage throughout the system
I still don't understand why they can't at least start making use of the GO / UPE station and bus terminal. Also you are incredibly brave getting anywhere near geese with goslings in tow.
From what I could see there are still some panels to go in the canopy ceilings suggesting they are still finishing electrical, communications and/or commissioning.
@@grammin Ah, I was just assuming they were waiting on the LRT to be finished. Hope it's going to be done soon, this is going to be a major boost to a very underserved part of the city. Thanks for helping to keep us updated.
The entire project has to be 'signed off' before parts can be opened. This, in good part, is due to the way the contract (P3) is structured, and the still contested terms of meeting that contract are disputed.
