I could not complete this process. When the blades are placed together, the bolt on the mower isn't long enough for the flat edge washer to be used.

Great tips and I apprecite the video. I would caution people: While that pin he uses when changing blades is a great idea/feature, PLEASE remember to remove it before mowing. I'd almost suggest using a long screwdriver instead, something long enough that were you to forget to remove it and lowered the mower, you'd notice that something was wrong because it wouldn't be flat. Otherwise, happy mowing! I just got our new Select Cut XP today and I'm about to break it in!

Excellent review. Only noted nothing stated about using the mulching blade and selected cutting height. The Manual does mention in TROUBLE SHOOTING "If mower not mulching properly, mower may be set to cut too much grass at once...raise the setting." So I started out with the highest setting, all OK.

Superb video... clear, right on point, and not overdone! Therefore, I subbed! A friend's mother just bought one of these, but she has no mechanical skills, so it's gonna be me pulling those blades & doing sharpening chores periodically. This leaves me with a question. Are there any concerns with using the impact wrench to reattach them, or would it be better to use a (manual) torque wrench like the manual says? I'm not sure how much plastic is involved here... wouldn't want to crack anything. That asked, I'll undoubtedly be using my impact wrench to remove them the first time. I already tried on day one, and they're absurdly tight from the factory. Also, the manual's not super-clear on the placement of that blade-blocking hole. Based on their drawings, I thought it was the rectangular recess located very near to it, but that's very shallow... too shallow! So thanks for showing that in detail, too!!

Thanks for sharing this video. Wasn't sure if I was doing something wrong with those bolts since they are so tight! One thing I wanted to mention... I think you said the blade with the extra notches was the mulcher, but according to Ego's site, that's the bagger blade.

Please check their web site again. The one with the extra notches is the mulching blade. My XP came set up with the mulching blade and mulching plug pre-installed.

Wacky if true! Every mulching blade I've ever owned (granted, that's only a handful) was triple-notched like that. I recently set one of these mowers up, and I could've sworn the Ego manual said so, too.

@@TinkerForward The blade nuts on the mulching blade do not budge. After stabilizing the blades, I tried a hand wrench, my neighbor tried his battery-powered wrench, and neither could move the nuts not one iota. I sprayed WD40 with the same result. After 30 minutes of trying we stopped because we did not want to strip the nuts. I contacted Ego and they merely sent me directions on how to change the blade. Uh...Duh?!!

Guess I need to come borrow your impact gun. Page 43 of my manual says the shaft bolt gets tightened to 22 ft-lbs and the 2 outside bolts get 36-43 ft-lbs of torque. Every complaint about these mowers is the factory over-tightening these things. Perhaps the factory needs to read their own manual, cause I have to get a breaker bar to get these things off. These are on tighter than a lug nut.

Great video but FYI the "spikey blade" is the bagging blade. It is stamped right in the blade what they are designed for. The blade you already had in it is the mulching blade. At least that is how mine are stamped. Maybe mine is wrong.
@coloradostrong
@coloradostrong 3 года назад
The mower comes with the Upper Blade (straight no lift) and the Mulching Lower Blade (slight lift) installed. It does a great job of reducing the yard waste to small particles but it really does nothing for removing debris trapped by the grass roots. The Bagging Lower Blade is a cross between the Mulching and High Lift Blade (optional). To really get the yard clean like a gas mower you need to use the High Lift blade to suck that stuff up. It is a mix and match. Tell ya what tho, never going back to the gas after this thing.

That is incorrect. The "spiky" blade is the mulching blade. I bought this mower today. The lower blade that came installed is the spiky looking one and is stamped "mulching" . If I could attach a picture I would. Could be stamped wrong on yours? I looked up other mulching blades and they also had a spiky look.

Interesting and weird! I think Ego (or perhaps their blade supplier) must be playing a little joke on all of us! Just for reference purposes, here's a link to the manual for the LM2130 and 2150 models. Have a look at page 21; it shows the 3-spiked lower blade first, and describes it as the mulching blade. LINK: egopowerplus.com/media/productattach/2/1/21-0713_ego_lm2130_lm2130sp_lm2150sp_56v_lithium-ion_cordless_mower_manual_na_v2_1-8_.pdf

I have a EGO 56Volt Model # LM2100SP which came with only 1 blade; I now see they have a double blade system; can I install the double blades on my model; I purchased the mower 5/21/20. Thanks.
@floobertuber
@floobertuber 2 года назад
Does it have three bolts? Or only one? Also, even if two blades physically fit, there may be blade/shroud clearance issues. Also... If you can find it, I also recommend you check the motor power specs before trying this on the LM2100SP, because the x-blade configuration mowers have upgraded motors. For example, the LM2135SP received an improved 7.0 Ft-Lb motor; the XP model (LM2156SP) got an even stronger 8.3 Ft-Lb motor. Unfortunately, I could not locate the LM2100SP's motor-torque figures (crappy, un-detailed product descriptions are everywhere!). I mention this because putting more mass (2 blades) on an older model may overwork the motor. At the very least, it'll probably reduce your mowing runtime. Just something to think about. Good luck!
@floobertuber
@floobertuber 2 года назад
I found one more thing to think about... adding a second blade apparently lowers your cut height approximately 1/4". I found this information in the following video by "The Average Lawn Guy," who seems to have done precisely what you're asking about: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bnWs54Ik4js.html Personally, that would also give me some additional pause, since the second blade rides a bit LOWER then the lower edge of the deck. Meaning that rolling over a curb or some other obstruction, which may have cleared before, might now cause the blade to impact the obstruction. Also, I would probably use nylock locking nuts, instead of a separate lock washer like "The Average Lawn Guy" used. Nylocks are what come on the blade-pairing bolts on the x-bladed mowers. I trust them more than lock-washers.

An impact driver usually has torque measuring in inch-pounds. You'll probably need a torque WRENCH, which should be much stronger (measured in foot-pounds). You can also try a breaker bar. Good luck!
@Threedog1963
