The beauty of living next to a lawn detailer. Random part of lawns cut when your at work. Every day wondering what may have happened to your lawn in your absence.
I cut the grass on my allotment - and there's quite a bit of it - with a string trimmer as a mower isn't available to me. You get the hang of an even cut with practice. Also if the nature strip outside my house gets long, as when it rains a lot, I use the trimmer to knock it down
Why not? Back in 1963 when I was a kid and living in Kingston, Jamaica, I watched gardeners cutting the lawns with machetes, so why not a string trimmer? 8-)
What's needed is a little dolly or cradle on wheels, so you can get a consistent height as you push it along... when you look at the sharpened edge of a mower blade compared to the 3mm round edge of the trimmer line, there is certainly a difference in the way it cuts the grass... and don't worry about perfection... like a bad haircut, a lawn will always grow back...
Zdravím Time. Vy to vždy dokážete tak báječně předvést, že bych si od tebe koupila cokoliv včetně té strunové sekačky 😂. Děkuji Jana 👍👋🌿Přeji hezký den!
A MASTER at trimming! It's about to be Spring here in the US. I bought this very ego trimmer during the winter and am eager to use. Its lack of bells-and-whistles convinced me to try it. Appreciate the tip for walls: "Vertical first, then clean up what's left."
Speaking of cleaning up messes...Tim, have you ever come across a battery blower vac (specifically the vac part) that actually doesn't completely suck (no pun intended). :)
No matter how skilled someone might be with a string trimmer, using it to cut a lawn will always be uneven. Going over it twice will get rid of the waves, but the time you waste doing it twice defeats the purpose. Far too easy to tip the head one way or another past horizontal, causing a scalp like happened to Tim. A useful demonstration, but a mower is a better tool for larger areas. You also need to watch getting too close to the bark of that tree. Over time you may gird it, or open the bark to insects or infection. A less skilled operator always thinks they can get that last blade of grass beside the bark. Once it is cut, it’s too late.
Going to buy the EGO Commercial STX4500 Line Trimmer this afternoon, special deal at the moment where you claim a free 5ah battery, and I still have $100 store credit at Sydney Tools. Will be testing it out on the week end.
Hey Tim, would you recommend the STX4500 for getting through overgrown weedy yards with various woody-stemmed things as well? I'm essentially looking to compare it to the 29cc Rover RS3000, but hesitant to make the jump to battery garden tools. I wasn't sure if this the right place to ask, or if you happen to know of such a comparison floating around somewhere. The yard is definitely not what you'd call manicured, but not as bad as some of the abandoned yards SB Mowing comes up against... I guess I'm looking for more a "yard tool" than a "lawn tool" per se...
Most things are possible Tim. Looks a bit more messy mind. I also think you need a good trimming technique too otherwise it's scalping city 😂. How did the service go mate?
Hi thanks im a subscriber. Thanks for your great helpful videos. Question please : Im just starting up with no lawn mower but i have a very nice new Stihl weed eater that i cut my own grass with using long 8 foot side to side passes that i can do a whole standard size front yard in about 20-25 minutes or so. Then i rake it up and dispose of the grass. Can i temporarily only use the stihl weed eater to do peoples yards until i save up for a new honda mower ? Would i be looked down on for that or as long as i do a good job and great customer service, people will be happy ? Thanks. Anybody knowledgeable please reply soon.
