Hi Matt! EGO customer and fan here, and just watched this out of curiosity. I couldnt help but notice all of your comment replies here, and I simply wanted to take s moment to say a sincere Thank You for your efforts and helpful knowledge and attitude! 👍🙂
This video was very helpful. I've had two gear case assemblies ruined by a jammed impeller. Not the auger, but the impeller. The cotter pin in the impeller shaft does not shear, and gear assembly is just not beefy enough - so it get's ruined (the pot metal case cracks open).
we are working on the issue and have done some engineering to solve the issue. tho i know it not helpful when you have snow on the ground but this will be covered under warranty.
Exact thing happened to me this morning. The cotter pin and not a 3rd sheer pin was for sure a design flaw. My authorized repair facility says they have a 3 month turnaround. That means I just spent $1600 and have to use a hand shovel the rest of the winter?
@@CJLHD hmm this is not ok lol let me look in to this we should be able to get a replacement set up for you with that long of a wait. did you call us here at EGO ?
They replaced mine last year for the same issue. This year, first time out, it broke again. Figuring it out, but this has been two seasons and I’ve never finished a driveway clearance. EGOs redeeming trait is that they tend to replace their broken things, but I don’t see how this helps my carbon footprint at all. Probably cheaper and more reliable to buy a beater truck just for plowing.
@@matterwin8635 I have a similar problem. I purchased mine late December '22. I hit some loose gravel while blowing snow today and broke a sheer pin. I replaced both because the other one was slightly bent. Started snow blowing again and the snowblower shut off and the power light flashed orange/amber. I checked the impeller and had a small rock lodged in behind it. I was able to remove the rock but now when I engage the auger the impeller makes a loud clunking noise. The light stays green and everything turns but I don't want to ruin it so I called support and they told me I have to bring it to a service center and it isn't covered under the warranty. So I paid $1600+ on this snowblower last year and now from what I've been told I'm looking at another $500-$700 to repair it. Any advise?
Hey, do you happen to know the power rating on the motor? I have one of these that works great, and want to make a Frankenstein monster DIY out of an old other blower I have but have zero frame of reference for the kind of power I’d need. Knowing this units power (it works great for my Alaskan snow) would tell me the ballpark to start from on my project, but I’m not too keen on doing this procedure to read a motor label. Aka, want to leave mine together and buy other things, but knowing this things power rating would be useful.
I have a question Matt - My Ego 2 stage is broken. I ran over a dog rawhide that became stuck in the impeller. When I removed it, I didnt see any visible damage to the impeller. I start the snowblower back up and then it shuts off after a second of trying to spin. When I spin the impeller, it spins almost a full spin and then stops. It will not go any further. I can do the same thing in the opposite direction and it does the same. I spoke to Ego for this and because I ran over the rawhide, it's not covered under warranty. There is also not a repair station near my location. Do you have any advise on this? From watching your video here, It seems like it could be the gearbox that has broken teeth on the gears possibly? I'm not fully sure. Again, no damage visually on the outside. The snow blower does turn on and starts to spin and after all of one second, it just stops and the red led light flashes. I find it odd that if i turn the auger manually, it spins almost a full spin and comes to a stop, almost as if something is blocking it from spinning. Any ideas on this?
Hey man same.thing happened to me and I had to replace the drive train on it and the new drive train does a full spin and there's a great video how to replace it on RU-vid ego drive train
The video I think you are referring to is the one above. What part of it did you replace though? Was it just the gearcase assembly that needed to be replaced or the motor assembly as well?@@chrisyde6099
Useful information, but I think my gear case is jammed (and I don't have a replacement), and the tool is still under warranty, so I took it to a service center yesterday. Here's hoping!
Hi Matt! Great video! I have a stage 2 2400 snowblower that I purchased late 2021. Yesterday I hit a stick that got caught on the impeller. We got 5 feet of snow in South Lake Tahoe! Once I removed the stick the light was flashing orange. I was looking at forum and the website about the orange light. I let my batteries rest for 15 minuets. Came back and nothing. I called support and they weren’t much of a help. The closes tech is in Sacramento (2 1/2 hour drive). The road to Sacramento is closed due to heavy snow. Also I don’t have the receipt… which is a lesson learned on my part. The credit card I bought with the snowblower is no longer in active as of 2022. There was no broken shear pins. The impeller could only make 1/4 of a full turn before it gets “locked”. I’m assuming I might need a new motor and gear assembly? I came across your video through a Reddit post. Any advise? Thank you for your time!! 🙏🏼
Hi Matt, happy Wednesday! Thank you for the reply. Correct, the auger won’t move freely. No shear pins are broken. However the impeller only does 1/4 of a turn before it sounds like it gets stuck and does not move freely.
@@matterwin8635 I’m weighing my options. Ego sent me info to a repair shop that’s 1 1/2hr away. I called the shop and they told me they are super backed up and I probably won’t see my blower for over 2 months. I asked EGO if there were any other shops and the closes one is 50+miles away. This past weekend we got 5feet of snow in Lake Tahoe.
@@Williamaragon07 hmm this is a tough spot. did they send you other shops? have you looked around for shop are a ace? what is your level of tech skill?
Matt I am having similar issues with my snow blower. Amber/orange light flashing when I engage the auger. I had rocks in my auger that I cleaned out and it appears the impeller had rocks as well. I have cleaned all these out and still have the same lights happening. I am not the original owner of the blower. I bought the house and the original owner had recently purchased the snow blower from ACE Hardware. Knowing this will not be covered by warranty I feel I will be replacing the gear case on my own. Is there any other possible cause before I purchase the replacement parts? Thanks.
Yes I can. I have removed auger and the impeller. Then ran the unit and still get the amber/ orange flashing light when I depress the auger handle. There is a clunk sound after it starts to rotate.
Thanks.,bummer that the blower has only been used three times. As an engineer I have to say this is a bad design not having the impeller installed with a shear pin. Thanks again.
When attempting to manually rotate the auger, I encounter resistance that prevents it from completing a full rotation. Regardless of the direction I turn it, the auger rotates partially but then abruptly stops, unable to make even one complete revolution. Would the gear case be the issue here or is it something else? @@matterwin8635
Hi Matt- my 2 stage 2400 is a year old. EGO won't honor the warranty because I can't find the receipt. I'm in Alaska so there is no service center. I hit a dog bone, did not shear the pins, and now the wheels will turn but the auger goes "clunk", orange flashing light, and auger won't turn. Its unfortunate that the shear pin design doesnt protect the rest of the blower. After talking to tech support, I tried replacing the electronic assembly ($350). Nope. In the other comments you mention a gear case. I see a couple of options for gear case in the parts list. Any ideas on which part it could be? I have the blower fully disassembled in my garage.
ya it needs a gear case. hmm what happened to you're receipt lol ? jk let me contact them and see what they will do. Have you tried looking on you bank are cc bill see if you find the purchase? it is long shot but could work.
@@matterwin8635 Hi Matt thank you for the reply. I searched all my credit cards so I must have paid cash, which I often do because I work in an all cash business. I know I put the receipt somewhere "safe" and have torn the house apart looking for it. I went to Lowes but they only keep the register logs for 3 months so I was out of luck. I know, I should have registered it right away, but I never had an issue before with anything. Anyway, is it part 201 self propelled gear case assembly or part 34 motor and gear case assembly? Or part 7 front gear case? (Im referring to the service parts list for the SNT2410. The clunk noise is coming more from the midsection, which makes me suspect #34 motor and gear case assembly. I have the whole blower disassembled in my garage. I could probably qualify for tech status lol since there are no repair clinics in Alaska. Thank you for any info on the correct gear case so I can order the part. I continue to argue with the customer support on the poor design of this part as well as the lack of actual warranty and service. If they sell it in Alaska they need to service it in Alaska. I REALLY appreciate your videos. Thank you!
@@matterwin8635 01943601 is my case number. I left off with them still looking for the receipt when they said they wouldn't honor the warranty. Lets say I get this fixed, would replacing the shear pins with weaker shear pins be a solution so this doesn't happen again? Thanks again for your video and advice
Mine makes a loud banging sound when the auger is engaged. I can see scratch marks where the impeller spins, but when I hand turn the auger the impeller is not hitting the housing. Any thoughts?
I just bought my snowblower a month ago first snow storm 10-13 cm I start my cleaning after 15 min it stopped working I try to restart it but the power button on the machine (not the battery) flashes orange I contacted the warranty service to open a case he refers me to the first shop I call him he tells me that he does not deal with the guarantee I call back they refer me to a 2nd shop he tells me the same thing and then they refer me to a 3rd tells me the same thing I do not know what to do anymore
Matt - I'm having the same issue as others in this comment section. First use of my SNT2400 yesterday only to have the auger not engage after picking up a rock in the Impeller. Flashing green light to orange when depressing the auger lever. Contacted customer service and after multiple conversations and emails they set up a warranty service repair at Northern Tool in Minnesota. Contacted the Northern Tool store and was told that it would be 5-8 weeks... obviously unacceptable. The unit was purchased at Lowes but given that Northern Tool was shown to be a preferred repair center and Lowes is not, I figured that was a better route to take. Apparently not. I reached back out to customer service via the previous email exchanges and received an autoreply that the case was closed and I'd have to call them... which I did but was on hold and now waiting for a callback. Any advice?
Matt - they've referred me to another service repair location (an Ace Hardware in River Falls, WI). Will bring the unit there and will hopefully get it repaired and back in short order. Will let you know. In the meantime, have you folks figured out a solution to reduce the likelihood of this happening again (such as a small diameter shear bolt for the impeller)?
