As an Arab, I believe that this is incredible for someone who has English as their first language! You are truly an inspiration to me as I am currently teaching myself Japanese. I was going to give up but then I realized, if Tim can learn 20 then I can sure as hell teach myself ONE. Thank you so much for making me not give up!

People who advise Tim to learn Modern Standard Arabic, are you listening to him?Tim already tried MSA and found that, although people understood him, most of them couldn't reply back to him in MSA. Therefore, he had difficulty conversing, which is his goal. So he learned Egyptian, and now he can at least converse with Egyptians, which is better than conversing with practically nobody.
Amen. And I totally agree. I love Egyptian history and that is one of the reasons why I chose to learn Egyptian dialect. The other reason is one of my friends told me if I wanted to learn a language I should speak his. Wich obviously he speaks Egyptian Arabic. And I love the language so far.
Actually, many Arabs can understand Egyptian, but most of them cannot speak it. They may try replying with their dialect, syrian dialect, or most likely Fus'ha.
@@friendlycreature6375 Fortunately, the Egyptians can speak it. Learning a specific dialect opens up a whole nation of conversation partners, a few of which can be found on Internet platforms like italki. Of all the Arabic dialects, Egyptian is one of the few for which good beginner courses are available (Pimsleur, Language Transfer, Michel Thomas, Rocket Languages, Glossika, etc.). I can also find a lot of fun RU-vidrs who (I think) speak Egyptian Arabic. And Egypt is a popular tourist destination for Westerners.
I'm an Egyptian and I'm gonna say this was pretty good I'm really impressed as Arabic isn't easy to learn your Arabic is very good .... and I like that you can speak the letter (ع) If you take my advice I'd say learn fus'ha . If you could do so ... you're absolutely a monster polyglot well done buddy . keep it up :)
of course you can... i very happy to hear it open minded, thanks a lot.. well.. i'will look forward for you to help me soon.. As soon As possible.. im ready to study arabic now..
Because of "fusha"? Bullshit. You are a master polyglot if you speak 20 languages like Tim. Not because you learnt a dumbass "clear" language of "sacred" bullshit.
it is a very fascinating language a little bit hard especially the grammar , but trust me it will help you a lot especially with understanding other languages .
Dude, I'm living in Cairo as a native Egyptian and if you're going to use the formal arabic on the streets people will think that you came from the dark ages lol, This is so funny! The benefits of learning Egyptian arabic is that so many ppl will be able to understand/talk to you much better! your Egytian arabic is good just use it and be yourself, greeting from Egypt to you and everyone here ;)
Thinking that somebody who speaks Classical Arabic is from the dark ages would be very ignorant because your ancestors who spoke Classical Arabic were much more successful than modern Arabs. Actually for the Middle East it is opposite of Europe where the dark ages were a thousand years ago. For Arabs the dark ages are today but the golden age was in the distant past when the Middle East was the top of the world with much more stability, flourishing science, philosophy, arts, literature, civilisation e.t.c and Arabic was the lingua franca of the civilised world.
Holla! ***** The first ignorant thing is that you're talking about my ancestors without knowing a thing about them, historically Arabic wasn't our language except when Amr ebn Aass came to Egypt to spread Islam and the language.. our original language is Coptic not arabic and there're so many evidence how they were forcing the Egyptians to speak and write arabic.. The second ignorant thing is talking without understanding, giving a guy who's visiting Egypt an advice to use the classical Arabic on the street without telling him that people will laugh at him is totally dishonest and ignorant? I'm not taking anything personally here but it's a kind of a stupid thing to defend your classical arabic here, the guy needs an advice and that's it. if you want it take it.. we're not speaking arabic and we will never be because our slang is very different.
Ohhhhhhhh my GOD *-* I'm Egyptian and I'm in love with you :D !! this is so SWEET, hearing foreigners speak Arabic, and not us having to always speak English.. I mean, when you learn a language for the purpose of comprehending people, they'll be really flattered, they'll love you before getting to know you!, because you actually made an effort to communicate, and the beautiful thing is that you understand this PERFECTLY *-* And what you said about how much it helps you understand various cultures.. just WOW! that's what I always thought too, I always find excuses on how hard is it to learn languages, but after you, I'm inspired for ages :))) THANK YOU!
el7a2 yabny ..she is in love with you ..oh my god ....listen sweet heart egyptians are much more pretty ...at least they are real men lol ...anyway iam just kidding
So what I'm gonna say right only Egyptians will relate to XD It's that why when us Egyptians we in an English reading lesson and you pronounced a word wrong they laugh at you and you become the class joke, on the other hand, when Egyptians hear Americans stuttering and mostly say everything wrong they just think it's cute and shit? xD 3alam 3abita walahy :D
I was trained as a linguist in the U.S. Army -- all in fusha. Later I was sent with a tank unit to Kuwait to train the Kuwaitis in the use of the M1A2 tank. When we were teaching, an American captain would say a phrase, I would translate it into MSA and then the Kuwaiti captain would translate into dialect. Slow and awkward to say the least! The Kuwaiti soldiers would have understood me better in Egyptian than in MSA!
Thanks for the story. Been studying Arabic off and on for about a year. Began with MSA for the basics but transitioned to Egyptian because I was told with the film industry being in Egypt it tends to be the mostly widely understood.
انا مصرية ولقد فتحت الفيديو و ظننت انك عربي لأنك تتكلم العربية بطريقة رائعة و تنطق الحروف الصعبة في اللغة العربية و اريد اخبارك انك يجب أن تستمر و لا تجعل شيء يحبطك
@@misterbombasticgralak yes, this is its very meaning in English . Same expression is used in some Arab countries they say in Iraq for example : نايمة عليهم الطابوقة او نايمين ورجلهم بالشمس
I just started a week ago for my new years resolution. Plus I need something else to do for our second year of covid-19, here in the United States. RIP to all those we've lost to the covid-19.
I 'v been studying arabic for few months now and I hope soon I will be able to speak like this! Arabic is very hard since my native is croatian, but I' m motivated to learn and this boy prooves it is possible 😊 Greetings from Croatia! 🥰 Btw your ع is great 😉 we spent like one whole class to learn how to say it correctly 😊 luckily my egyptian friend is helping me, and listening to arabic music is also a big help 😊
الفصحى لغة القرءان الكريم ولغة الكُتاب و الشعراء والادباء ، ومعظم المثقفين فى الشرق الاوسط يكتبوا بالفصحى وهى ليست قديمة كما تقول هى فقط غير مستخدمة من قِبَل العامة ،أنا مصرية وأرى إنك تتحدث العامية المصرية بطريقة رائعة :) ممتاز
I'm speechless. I've been in Cairo for 3 years and I can barely speak like how you did in this video. I FEEL DEFEATED BUT ALSO INSPIRED TO LEARN IT NOW AFTER WATCHING THIS *crying*
Ah, I enjoyed this so much xD I'm Egyptian and I found your video "guy knows 20 languages" on Facebook. You are mind-blowing but I did notice a few things. Studied -> In Egyptian Arabic we say "zakert" not "darast". In my free time -> Fee wa2ty [you really need to pronounce the 'uh']el fady [fad-ee] I befriended -> sahabt [the b & t are pronounced as one] Chatting -> aklem [aa-kal-em] Nonsense -> da ay kalam Respond -> yorodo Anything at all -> It is "khales" but you really need to pronounce the a there. I can't -> ma2darsh [ again, you really need to pronounce the a in there and the rsh is pronounced as one letter not three if you get what I mean] But wow, I really enjoyed this. You are way beyond talented. I praise you. Well done!
Bravo for learning all of these languages.. Keep it going ;) My mother language is Arabic and currently learning Italian, you've inspired me to keep on going & never give up till I perfect it. Thank you!
well , it's extremely easy , i am egyptian n i'm tellin' you that it's like a piece of cake .. you will enjoy it really much and this guy is very good .:)
I totally agree. I started learning Arab in school. And I really appreciate my Proffesor for explaining the difference in dialects. She let us choose which dialect we wanted to learn. However it did get confusing at times.
زياده الخسر خيرين و لبلب؟؟ Dude you're awesome as an Egyptian I must say that you're a very good arabic speaker but not a very good Egyptian accent speaker. Your accent is a bit mixed with khaliji "Iraqi the most". After all you made my day I would love to speak so many languages like you do. Way to go :)

I have been studying Arabic since 2018 and I can barely form a good sentence. You did a great job learning learning such a beautiful and fruitful language. Personally, I have officially come to terms that I simply can not learn the language and I have quit. But congratulations on the effort and fruitful reward it has and will bring you.
Although I am not a big fan of Egyptian Arabic, I must say your Arabic is really good. If I didn't know who you are I would've definitely thought that you have a Moroccan - Arabic mother tongue and you're trying to speak the Egyptian Arabic. That's because Moroccan - Arabic is really dense and most of the alphabets are spelled out while in the Egyptian Arabic, a bunch of alphabets are not spelled correctly. Like "ق" is spelled "أ" and "ج" is spelled a thick "ق" etc .. and you did spell those letters right most of the time. Loved this video and the "20 language video"! You are a great inspiration for our generation :]
I'm 10 years late but I'm really impressed! Your vid popped up when i googled "لهجة المصرية". I'm really glad I got to see this. I've been trying to learn arabic too for some time, even though I'm nearly not as invested in it as you, clearly. I hope to be able to converse smoothly in arabic, In sha Allah soon.
I am Egyptian and i speak both english and french and I was starting to get worried when your arabic was almost better than my 12 year old brother. Keep up the good work and just found out that im a fast language learning and im a adept french speaker only after 4 months so youve inspired me to learn hebrew and swahili because theyre pretty close to arab thanks and if you ever what to talk or practise egyptian arabic with me my name is Ziad el tabbakh just search me on google and youll find lots of social media in my name
It has taken months to learn just a little bit of conversational Egyptian. Don't even get me started on the Classical/Modern Standard which I try to do on the side. Props my man keep it up. They try to say it is impossible for White westerners like us to learn this language.
هههه انت تتكلم بالعربي سريع يعني بضع الجمل كنت اقرأ الترجمة لكي الاحظها Hhaha. You're speaking Arabic so fast that I had to read the English translation of some sentences.
That's right. All of the entertainment and music, TV and movies come from Egypt. All of the Arabic countries understand Egyptian. Other than that, it's local dialects.
he said one year tho ! ... at the end of the video ... but he is REALLY smart to learn such a hard language like arabic especially egyption in a short time
i am impressed!!!! i came across ur video cause currently i am learning Italian and i am having a hard time getting it, so i was wondering how non Egyptians find it to try and learn Arabic (my native language) and i am literally shocked with the fact that you are that good. begad good work and if u ever needed any help just let me know :D
you are amazing i love your enthusiasm , i think u have crossed a good milestone with Arabic and Egyptian try to slow down though , pay attention to the pronunciation الفصحى تحتاج التأكيد على الحروف في حين ان اللهجة المصرية لا تحتاج لهذا وفعلا اللي يقولك ركز بس على الفصحى نايم في العسل ربنا يوفقك
You keep forgetting one thing tho. What keeps people coming to the fus'ha, is because they want to understand the Qur'an and understand the religion and teach it. Once you let go of that old language, you lose the knowledge.

screw all those who say you're bad at Egyptian Arabic, you're a genius dude ! it's normal not to be exactly as the same as native speaker, and also you still a beginner. Keep it up Genius :)

+Yasmina Terzikhan I must ask why is Leventine Arabic is easier? I am one of those people in the middle because lots of resources for grammar etc will teach you Classical/MSA. But I was told Egyptian for conversational was best because the film industry it is more wide known among Arabic speakers. Is it grammar and punctuation? Because to be honest half of the words I learn in Egyptian dialect I can't really understand how to say them unless they a written in Arabic and my still elementary understanding with regards to reading and writing.
Egyptian dialect is the easiest to learn because it's simpler than the pragmatic arabic and yet is very conversational, it's the most common arabic because it's the closest to them all, meets all the arabic 'accents' in the middle, close to lebanese and syrian which are as commonly understood by all arabs as egyptian. hope his answered your question, because i didn't really understand what u asked, sorry :)
I live in the United States. And I befriended an older man at art school. He spoke Egyptian. He would be able to communicate fine with others who spoke different dialects . Lots of love for Egyptian dialects.
As a linguist and author of Arabic learning textbooks, I believe the hardest part to grasp when learning Arabic is the highly inflectional nature of Arabic; verbs carry attached inflectional affixes that convey subject/tense/mood. Because verbs have such capability to carry so much information, subjects can be omitted: eg. the English "I talked to him" is "kallimtu" in Tunisian Arabic. the base verb is "kallim (talk/speak). The subject "I" is conveyed by the inflectional suffix "t" (which at the same time indicates past tense of the sentence!) , object "him" is "u". Since the Arabic subject "ana" is present through the suffix "t", it is omitted. Moreover, you must distinguish between Modern Standard Arabic and Colloquial Arabic, or vernaculars such as Tunisian Arabic and Egyptian Arabic (which are varieties of the same language and ARE mutually intelligible). Standard Arabic (or Classical Arabic) is basically NOT a spoken language, that is not spoken naturally by any native speakers of Arabic. it is mainly a written code, rendered orally in formal situations, such as the TV news!) Therefore you will never find an Arab person speak Modern Standard Arabic at home with family for instance! Although colloquial Arabic has Standard Arabic as its "ancestor", it has substantial differences with MSA in vocabulary, phonology and grammar. Every dialect has been influenced by its own particular history, including the linguistic environment where Arabic was implemented: do not forget that before the Arab invasion to North Africa (Tunisia), for instance, about 1400 years ago, there were populations that existed and who spoke their own language. Those were Berber people who spoke Berber language: Important influences of the native Berber language still exist and are represented in vocabulary, pronunciation and grammar. In addition, there are influences of surrounding cultures: French, Italian, Turkish. My textbook "Tunisian Arabic in 30 Lessons" explains very well these issues: it is an enjoyable, easy-to-read self-instruction textbook book for native speakers of English who want to learn Tunisian Arabic, the colloquial form of Arabic spoken in Tunisia Readers are: - visitors to Tunisia and other Arab speaking countries, - US / UK expatriates in Tunisia for professional or personal reasons - people who want to acquire and improve communication skills in Arabic worldwide (such as bed & breakfast owners) - Language Students and linguists use this textbook for their study and research, as it contains authentic linguistic data, original syntactic insights into Tunisian Arabic and interesting comparisons between Tunisian Arabic and English based on the Universal Grammar syntactic theory. - Lovers of foreign languages worldwide.
