The Greeks had a myth that explained the Egyptian gods. The story goes, Zeus was defeated by the Titan monster Typhus and was imprisoned in chains on Olympus. The other God’s had no chance to defeat a monster that could defeat Zeus and so they fled Olympus to save themselves. They took the form of animals as disguises and fled to Egypt where the Egyptians recognized them gods and so worshipped them as human animal hybrids Eventually, the gods Pan and Apollo went back to Olympus to save Zeus. Pan used his mighty yell to distract the titan while Apollo used his great speed to sprint to Zeus and free him. Then Zeus battled the monster again and won, taking back Olympus. He then threw down a mountain upon the monster to imprison him for all eternity. Even to this day the monster’s rage boils over from time to time and the mountain erupts with fire as he tries furiously to escape! His prison is Mt. Edna in Sicily, the most active volcano in Europe Thought it was a cool story so just wanted to share it
Ancient Kemet existed far before Greece THEIR "gods" were stolen from Ancient Kemet. European people always trying to put themselves in places they were never in.
@@jmack115 bro the whole point of the story is one culture trying to explain why another cultures worships different gods It’s a history lesson and if you think on it you can even draw parallels from this story to modern day cultures and how they interact
As I get older and mature I realize “good vs. evil” is seldom the case. With mythology especially but also in other fictional universes. The Jedi did evil things, super heros did evil things. Villains often have a good reason for their actions. Kinda cool to see my perspective change over the years
I saw this video about 2-3 days ago and saw this comment today i had sudden urge to find this comment and take a screenshot of it, went into the comments of every video i saw in between these days and finally found it. Thanks for commenting this.
@@utkarshpuniani4849 of course!! Zeus was NOT a good guy and I feel like super man killed thousands with all those building he knocked down. It’s a very odd and hard to describe feeling knowing it’s not as simple as good vs evil
@@DJRashadHayes Well, from what little I know of the expanded universe, the Jedi are actually the ones responsible for the existence of the Sith. There was a few Jedi that thought learning more/from the darkside could be beneficial and wanted an academy specializing in the darkside. The Jedi refused, but those interested built an academy anyway. When the Jedi found out they destroyed it. I think there was a few more attempts at the academy, but each time the Jedi stopped it. Eventually, those at the academies gave in completely to darkside and started to fight back. The rest is history. I could be wrong about so anyone please feel free to correct me. Not exactly evil maybe, but c'mon, all the Jedi had to do was let them force lighting zap that meiloorun at the end the room lol
@@DJRashadHayes Hmm... I'll steer clear of philosophical and political problems and just point out their genocide of the Sith species. They executed an entire civilization.
In regards to Set… You may also want to keep in mind that the religion and mythology of Kemet (Egypt) had roughly 4000 years to develop and change, and Set is one of the oldest and mightiest Netjeru (Divinities) of Kemet, right up there with Anpu (Anubis), having even been revered since before the earliest pre-dynastic times. In other words, this divinity has been worshipped in one form or another even since before Egypt was even actually Egypt. His role within the religion and mythology has changed a lot, probably more than most of the other Netjeru. Needless to say, Set vastly predates the Ennead Netjeru-Asar (Osiris), Aset (Isis), Heru-ur (Horus the Elder), etc., and all of their related myths and legends-and thusly, he was only adopted into that much latter form of the Kemetic religion and it’s mythology to fit their narratives and agendas. Set always symbolizes and represents chaos and many negative and destructive aspects of reality, but he also symbolizes and represents many positive and creative aspects as well. However, ever since he was adopted into to myths about the Ennead, most people have overlooked his many positive traits as his older mythology has been rejected. He is the multifarious and multifaceted divinity, the many faced Netjeru. He may have been the eternal master and origin of Asfet (chaos, destructiveness, negativity, injustice, violence, etc.), but he also defended others against it and held such forces back to allow Kemet to exist in the light of Ma’at (order, creativity, positivity, justice, peace, etc.). He is the patron of magicians (including the helpful priesthoods), and before Aset stole the true-name or Ra, he was also the foremost magicians amongst the Netjeru (afterwards he is second only to Aset). He may have ruled the deserts, dangerous creatures, and all manner of natural and unnatural disasters, but he also provided safe passage through the deserts, held back those same disasters, safeguarded every oasis, and was invoked to ward off evil spirits. He may have been responsible for violence and war, but he also taught the people to be strong and courageous enough to endure, survive and thrive. He ruled over infertility, but he was also invoked to ward off infertility by lovers wanting to conceive children, and for a long time his priesthood would even help with fertility rites and medicines. He ruled over foreigners and foreign lands, but he also helped with trade and travel. There are many more such instances of his positive traits being forgotten or outright ignored as he was demonized by the cults of the Ennead. … Also, and I don’t know where you got Apep being a “she,” when all of the actual texts refer to Apep as a very definite “he.” He’s the umbilical cord of Ra. His myths are also much younger than those of Set, making the myth of Set battling Apep another case of Set’s mythology being retconed. Apep became the chief bad guy of the religion and mythology, taking over some of the things Set originally did. Meanwhile, Set becomes the defender of Ra-just another divinity of war and weather fighting a giant chaos monster-and I can’t help but wonder if this is just a result of other Near-Eastern cultures such as the Canaanites influencing and corrupting the original myths of their Kemetic neighbors during their cultural exchanges. Eventually, much later, Apep gradually fades away from any true religious and mythological significance, being relegated to a scary background prop for Ra’s journey through the Duat (Twelve Hours of Night), and Set once again starts to fill the more traditional negative roles he used to do for the Netjeru as all foreign influences start to get diminished and rejected (including Apep), but this time without any of his positive qualities to go with him, playing villain to the newer and more popular Netjeru of The Ennead.
To possibly account for the gender mix ups, there is archaeological evidence that suggests many of the Egyptian Divinities had both masculine and feminine counterparts/forms, and that Divinities who were a blend of both or gender neutral also existed. A lot of that has been lost to history. Additionally however, during the period where archaeology in Egypt was most prominent/glorified, the most accepted English gender-neutral/ambiguous pronoun at the time was "he" leading to many Divinities being classified in the modern day as strictly male, leaving out their female or neutral aspects (not to mention the Victorian cultural biases that were imposed on them, further obscuring said aspects).
Yesss love this comment. Too often gods associated with the more darker parts of life get the worst wrap when any god can be used for good or bad. A god of love could be called on to ruin a marriage or a god of death could end a life or spare a life from death.
Egyptian god is the most visually intriguing for me, like other mythology are amazing in their own way, i love sundanese mahabarata/ramayana myth to death, but there is something about egyptian myth that so colorful , vibrant, diverse and unique. As an artist myself i mesmerized by the creative potential of these lore
did you know that sudan was a part of egypt until the english took over egypt and divided it up? also Palestine was also originally egyptian land, again until it was divided.
Bastet is my most favorite out the mythical Egyptian Pantheon mostly because one her roles is the Goddess of Protection meaning while yes she is the gentle humanoid Cat Goddess of the Sun, the Moon, Fertility/Motherhood, and Healing the fact she is also the Goddess of Protection means despite her gentle nature she's not afraid to unsheathe her claws, and bear her teeth and strike down evil spirits, wicked monsters, and villainous demons that escape the Underworld if innocent mortals are threatened by them heck the myths constantly state that her primary enemy is the Serpent God of Evil and Darkness Apep aka Apophis.
@@spacesky5725 Well, technically Hades/Pluto is the god of the Underworld, which is a role more comparable to Osiris. The Greek/Roman god of death would be Thanatos/Letum (or Mors), who actually killed people and guided them to the underworld. Just a little scholar coming through.
What about the fact that every time "new gods" were added to the myth story; it was directly related to New Kings taking power (for the powerful shifting control) and them rewriting the control system for their people to value. It's almost like when Kings take over a region and they destroy the monuments and statues of the prior king.
I've always been fascinated with ancient Egypt. This channel puts forth a real interesting take on this subject that I feel refreshing as well as interesting.
This is why Anubis is my favorite. You have all this drama happening amongst the other gods and then you have Anubis just vibing and dedicating himself to his job. Not to mention the fact that he was offered the title of the ruler of the dead and just decided to give that title to Osiris just so he could focus more on the job he already had.
I'm a Sanatani ( Hindu), and I just wanna say The Egyptian, Greek and Hindu mythologies are so amazing and interesting.. Also they share some similarities. Three of these mythologies are really old, had many gods unlike abrahmic religions like Christianity, Islam, jew... With one god. Wish we could know more and more about these ancient mythologies.
Ah 😶 Because there's only one god for real , Christianity , Jew came out of ISLAM , all of these mythologies aren't true at all in real life , gods can't be animals , or even created by human beings . This universe has been created by only one GOD for centuries ago , before we got created , the first who has been created was Adam peace upon him then God has created to Adam a wife from Adam's arm . We're all from mud , and we all belong to it . This is the truth , despite all what people say about the universe 🤷🏻♀️
Greek mythology: _Zeus cheats on another thousand women_ Egyptian mythology: _Horus actually impregnated Set by nutting on his salad, which Set ate unknowingly_
>Osiris had an affair with his brother, Seth’s, wife >a child was born >Seth furious >Seth tricked Osiris in a blatantly obvious trap >Seth kills brother who slept with his wife >also Osiris overthrow his father >Seth is “evil” Seth is the chad god of the dry lands.
@@dragonbullets2763 To me it was because he was associated with death and fate, but his apaprent moral position was neutral - whereas some of the other gods were depicted as more biased towards either peace or chaos. Anubis, not adhering to any particular formulas, just had this more mysterious aura to me.
Actually some archeological evidnece from recent years, prove Horus really existed! He lived around 5000 years ago and united the upper and lower Kingdom of Egypt. The story of Horus vs Seth, like the Trojan war is inspire by real event. Of course, much like the Trojan war, we can only piece together bit and pieces of what happened, base on mythology, but it give us a rough idea what happened. A further interesting fact, when they enter Horus' pyramid, do you know who Horus look like? Barack Obama. A more interesting fact, in the pyramid there is a line that translate into English says 5000 years later a Pharaoh from a far away land west to the great sea of the world would come and visit my tomb, that Pharaoh is my reincarnation, which literally infer Obama is Horus reincarnated. And the fact the real Horus in history looked like Obama...Cool! (Wait, if Obama is Horus reincarnated then...is Osama Bin Ladin Seth reincarnated? If that is true, the mythology is for certain right about one thing, Seth is an ass hole. Wait, in that case...is seal team 6, that killed Osama Bin Ladin, the reincarnation of Horus Generals or something LOL)
RutherFord Camerino It’s obvious her name isis and she is the logo of Starbucks?? And there are the terrorists group named isis pretending they are worshipping the most merciful?? Weird
I named my cat Osiris. I know it's not supposed to be a funny story, but I lost it when he was telling the story about Osiris getting trapped in the coffin at the feast he was invited to. Just because nums and boxes are my cat's two favorite things.
I never heard the entire story about Set and Orsiris; the story is always told from the perspective that Set was just jealous and evil. However, after hearing the whole story of how Osiris was having an affair with Set's wife; I think it is prejudicial to place all of the blame on Set. Osiris definitely played a part in this unfortunate event. Therefore, I think that Set's emotions and Osiris lust got the better of the both of them. Moral in my analysis is be sure to know both sides of a story before passing judgment; the entire story without omissions gives context to the events and behaviors of the Individuals involved. Thanks
Well I don't know anything about Egyptian mythology but in this video he said Neftis was disguised as isis and then Osiris had a affair with her ...Osiris might not be aware of that he might have thought her to be isis , his wife in real.
Humans were born from the tears of Ra's happiness. Beautiful. No wonder in the many myths of Gods the Egyptian one is one of the few that treat their humans better than most
True that’s why I love Egyptian Mythology. They treat humans right, want to help them, do not have children with them etc. It is so much different from e.g. Greek mythology where most of the gods hated humans.

I remember reading somewhere during while Anubis was guarding Osiris's body, Set tried to destroy it even more my turning into a leopard, but Anubis having none of it grabbed Set and skinned him and wore his skin as a cloak
You may encounter Osiris as “Jesus” we love to evolve overtime and see; your god is the rightful owner in taking of The One True Lord Ra’s place as he is chosen
The new God of War that had come out was actually supposed to be set in Egyptian mythology but they changed it to Norse mythology. Theres even concept art of it.

That's not the "real" Egyptian mythology. That's the new kingdom mythology. The ancient kingdom mythology starts with the self creation of Amun out of the primordial waters and then he proceeds to create stuff.
This is inaccurate information. Nun which is the water is the start of creation. There are 4 worlds of creation all ruled by their own families of Gods. The four worlds are Manu, Aakhut, Rosetau, and Ament. Water, fire, earth, and air. The world of Manu : there are 11 steps to begin creation each step is represented by a God. Nun (water) created the sun (RA) with motion, matter, space, time, darkness, light, communication, structure, precession, rotation, and revolution. The constant motion and chaos mixed with Nun speaking creative utterings… the sun emerged from the water and is the first element to come about. Which then transitions us and leads us into the second world of creation Fire. The world of Aakhut. There’s a whole lot more. But I’ll end it here lol

I love studying mythology. It can be very interesting and indicative of a culture. I find it interesting in Egyptian mythology most of the gods are based on nature and animals. It shows their appreciation for their land and wildlife. Also the Nile was a great source for the people of Egyptian which is most likely why it is revered in mythology as well as the sun.

You want any details about it? Because originally that is how it was but then Osiris cult started getting famous and eventually took over Anubis' role as the ruler of the underworld and Set turned from a powerful god to evil god and Egyptians didn't want Anubis to have a connection with an evil god, so they changed his story to him being the son of Osiris 👍🏼
