This week I'm back down in Manchester again testing an empty property just before the tenants move in.
The place had seen some action from (DIY Dave). You know, the kind of guy who promises to make all your wildest dreams come true if you slip him a tenner! Or in this case, fit those ebay special metal front sockets for 20 B&H.
As you shall see from the wonky camera footage and poor audio, this was not something I had planned to film. I decided on site to get my phone out and turn into Roy Walker "If you see it..say it". If you're not Gen X then you probably have no idea what I'm talking about? Then again I sometimes struggle to know what I'm talking about most of the time! The one thing the house hadn't seen was any paperwork relating to the electrical installation.
The smoke alarms ended up being out of date, so Aico smartlinks were used and fed from the existing lighting circuit.
THIS VIDEO IS FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY AND NOT TO BE TAKEN AS ANY KIND OF TRAINING OR EDUCATIONAL PRESENTATION. AT ALL TIMES I AM IN FULL CONTROL OF THE INSTALLATION AND THERE IS NEVER ANY RISK TO PERSONS OR EQUIPMENT. ELECTRICITY SHOULD BE GIVEN THE FULL RESPECT IT DESERVES. ⚡️⚡️⚡️

Nice to see you back buddy, those B&Q lights are a nightmare....done one years ago, 3 plate ceiling rose to a "fancy light" with 6 lamps on it.....only each light had its one line/neutral.....and not enough room for them all...😅

Hi there SJM Electrical 🖐🏻. Yes it's always tricky when there's too many cables to ram through one tiny hole. I find the small thin wagos and some extra sleeving is the best option sometimes 👍🏻.

Good to see you back, I double over as much as its possible but with older cabling I tend to only do it if it look like it's able to if that makes sense, Am a big fan of the MK quick fix sockets neat and quick, Kitchen sockets and oven possibly a kitchen fitter special.

The MK sockets are a nice back up to have a couple of in the van. I don't know anyone who has done a whole rewire with them yet? They're still quite expensive.

@@JBE they were doing a great deal on them at rexel when they first came out I did do one house saved a lot of time. An the same I keep two boxes in the back of the van.

Hello there 🖐🏻
@highhurstfarmandholidaycot526
Great video, now I always do a quick check with a socket tester first to establish which ring main is which and to identify major faults such as lack of earth/Cpc. Did this recently to find the previous nobhead had not even earthed the DB from the incoming armoured cable.

Good to have you back, the EICR, people don’t realise how much goes into testing a property. Landlords in Newcastle expect you to complete a full test with a satisfactory result for next to nothing! I did my 2391 in Manchester and a lad on the course was doing them for 50 quid a pop! I don’t see how anyone can test a property with visual and readings for 50 quid!
@JBE
@JBE 2 года назад
It's shocking what's out there, from the sparks willing to do it, to the landlords offering the metaphorical dangled carrot. Unfortunately what isn't helping is that it works both ways, there are sparks out there charging the earth for so called unsatisfactory EICRs to put them right and carry out the remedial works required. One of the biggest problems is that you don't have to be with a CPS to carry out an EICR. (Unless stated for insurance purposes). Let's face it through, Jack/Jill Landlord don't give a toss as long as it covers their property and doesn't cost too much. For Me, £50 won't even cover the fuel to get to the bloody property these days.

@@JBE I could send you a copy of an EICR issued by a local NICEIC contractor last year. The standard of literacy is probably Key Stage 1. I notified the NICEIC and they forwarded my details to the contractor who decided to pay me a visit.

Hey stranger, where've you been hiding. Great to see your face Jamie 😉. The boilers a room sealed appliance. As are pretty much all modern condensing boilers. So no ventilation required for the boiler itself.

Hi James, Great video. Enjoyed it a lot. I’m looking to buy my first MFT. Would you recommend a KT65DL or the KT63 Plus as I’m also looking to get the Testing kit with the PAT Tester etc. Thank you.
@JBE
@JBE 2 года назад
Hi Robert, I'm not too experienced with the KT63 (is that the new one?). I can tell you my KT65DL has never let me down in over 7 years. It also tests type A RCD/RCBOs which is a must these days when looking for an MFT. Mine came with a little outlet for doing basic PAT tests. My advice for anyone thinking of paying out big bucks for a new MFT would be to shop around and read/watch reviews. I'm sure you're doing just that? Cheers for watching 👍🏻

Sillicone on the kitchen socket probably because they've had damp build up in there, causing a trip?
@JBE
@JBE 2 года назад
I honestly don't know what they were thinking ? At least it was clear and not white 🤣.
@aaronmdjones
@aaronmdjones 2 года назад
Probably due to uneven tiles, and the fact that it's horizontally bridging 2 separate tiles, and the fact that the edges of the tiles are recessed relative to the front of the tiles. Silicone is nice peace of mind that you don't have any gaps that condensation on the tile can run down and then behind the socket.
@slayersdeath

Boiler won't need a vent because it's a room sealed boiler not a open flue boiler when it's room sealed it gets the air from outside to burn the gas while open flue uses the air from inside the room so your need a air vent to replace the air that the boiler is burning
