Yessss I do that during my boring classes my friend has a set that has half pans u can remove, so I take them all out and put them in my pencil case

Unfortunately this palette isn't available in the UK but I love the idea of the mini palettes within it, I think it would really help when working with a limited colour scheme - even though I can't buy this specific palette it's a concept I can keep in mind when working, I could choose 6 paints and only use those 6 paints to use on a piece. Love how the piece in the video came out, the purple/pink/yellow colour scheme is a particular new favourite of mine!

Hey! I’m in the UK and ordered these ones off amazon. The colour selection is slightly different but still really nice and the pallets is the same with the half pans that pop out 🙂 I’m not like a pro artist but I really enjoy painting with them and they layer really well and aren’t chalky so don’t feel like ‘cheap’ paints. There are 36 half pans for £22. Hope that helps! Hiya, I managed to find an almost identical 48 half-pan watercolour set sold by 'Yooson'. It's by a different company though- Giorgione. I bought their 36 half-pan set, which isn't really separated into 'blocks but it's just lovely! The 48 pack is listed on Amazon for £24.19, and I'm sure there are multiple sellers for it if it isn't available. The only issue is it's quite hard to find individual colours, or really any demonstrative reviews, but so far it's been great.

I've had these for 5 months, and the (main) reason that I think they are at least mostly dye based is because the reds are really warm and they either just didnt include a darker red, or they used the lighter dyes.

I have this pallet and I love it it’s absolutely my favorite for the price although I think they might’ve changed a little because I’m not sure if it’s the way that I set up my pallet but I think some colors may have changed

So many facts and opinions, you pack your videos with so much! Thanks Alice! You create such unique art videos and your review process is very professionally done. I am more of the option that this palette would be better without the paints! I am just so particular about the paint I use, but my pallets range from bulletproof glass ones to porcelain wells in slabs and plates, I even use a butchers tray! Other than the granulation why does it seem like pigment based watercolours are “nicer” then the dye based paints? Like why would you not want dye based instead of pigment based If cheaper and just as pretty..? Or maybe that’s just my impression..

They are more light-fast and permanent! :) They are also less likely to "muddy" and go opaque, and by knowing the exact pigments in each paint (usually made of just one or two pure pigments) you are able to create more accurate color mixing without any strange surprises from an underlying color. It's weird but definitely something that happens! Thank you for asking and tbh this is a really great idea for a video! I'm going to make that :)

HulloAlice said it best. You can paint some swatches with you dye paints and put them on a sunny window to see what your paints would shift to after UV exposure. I love using dye based paints in my sketchbook because they’re beautiful but I’d probably not sell an original because of its fading potential.

I think I would get this set just for the palette and the watercolors would be a bonus! My favorite non-pro WC paints are Pelikan transparent and opaque sets. They are very high quality, but cannot be rated as “artist quality” because there are no lightfast ratings. Next I love Jane Davenport wcs - I have 2 sets - brights and neutrals. High performing, but not “artist/pro quality” watercolor sets can be used for digital reproductions and any other work that won’t see much light and may not be kept for a long time (like greeting cards.) But of course, for something that would hang in a gallery or in someone’s home, I would only use professional artist grade.

Empty ones would be AMAZING ughhh!! The paints are def good for beginners but I'll likely replace them myself because I don't like to work with dye based stuff outside of sketchbooks!

Thank you so much for making this review, I wanted to get the pallet for the same reason as you (because of the ability to create mini pallets), but the price range made it hard for me to invest my money to buy the set. I’ve seen very few video reviews online, so I wasn’t sure how well these paints would perform for it’s price range with some online reviews comparing the watercolors to kids paint (but from the video reviews the quality looks better like a student grade paint). I love how detailed your review is and hopefully want to get these paints in the future (I managed to let my sis buy me the Komorebi watercolor set that’ll come next month, ‘cuz of the price range and that it’s a 40 color set, and I’ll try to practise some of the watercolor techniques you did in this video :]✨💖

Nice video. Although there seems to be a decent selection of colors in this, I really feel that a beginner learns much more about color by using a more limited palette. So the Van Gogh might be a better choice for a real beginner even though it would be more work. I am more impressed with your selection of metallic colors! You might want to try a fine water brush as a new gouache brush. I find that they are just pointy enough and they pick up paint quite well. I fill them with water, but only squeeze enough to mix the paint to a good consistency.

I tried to look for a cheaper version of this watercolor pallet on Amazon (I mostly interested in the pallet than the watercolors but I couldn’t find any empty ones on there), and found a brand that seemed to have decent grade watercolors which is Artify. It has a 24 set with the same pop out pallet as Gencrafts for $23.99 and has some decent reviews. I can’t compare it’s quality with Gencraft’s watercolors cuz I don’t have it, but I think the Artify one is a good introduction to watercolors (the reviews said they weren’t chalky) and also for this unique pop out pallet :].

I wouldn't count it as 8 in current form because you can't carry around each of the 8 without creating a mess, it just remains open. But you had a great diy idea that makes this possible

Alice, on the supply list is says Strathmore 500 series paper, but the link takes you to a Strathmore 400 series pad. Do you recommend the 500 series over the 400?

I personally like the mixing area, because there are both big and small areas for when you need larger and smaller colors. You can also take out the pallete and use the lid as well.

Well. On amazon in Canada they are sold out and only being resold by marketplace sellers for 150$ and if I try order from American amazon they end up costing 115$ with conversion, delivery, and import fees. That sucks.
