I feel like they could've definitely made the pump/pod a horizontal orientation to fit under the bed, or an outright nightstand so you can use it without taking up additional space.
I feel like your not an engineer:^) and storing a pump under your bed doesn't sound like a good idea considering this uses a motor and is exchanging heat :^^)
Most beds do not have space to store things underneath. But you do make a good point it could be better if it were more square so that you could put it flat against a wall or in a bed-side table even.
Thanks for the helpful review! The queen pod pro now costs $1700-$1800. Did they really raise their price that much over the last few months? Do you know if anything changed with the product since you posted this review?
How about the two membership options? Do you guys think ordering the matress only without getting the monthly subscription is worth it? The subscription gives us the Temperature Autopilot. With it, the mattress/cover should become smart and self-adjust to provide us with the best sleep. I would love to hear your opinions.
I like the cooling aspect of the cover and the ability to change it based on what you want. It would certainly make warm nights cooler and cold nights warmer. Perfect to help you sleep more soundly!
Best review I have seen so far for this. Shame I still cannot decide whether to buy one! How much is a decent nights sleep worth? My main worry is the feel of those little tubes...
My favorite feature of the 8 sleep pod pro is the separate temperature adjustments. My husband sleeps cold and I sleep hot. I like that we can set it to our own preferences.
I have a Eight Sleep Pod Pro Cover i have mine set to -10 for maximum cold and my body heat over powers the Peltier Module that heats and cool the cover. so if you sleep hot this helps but doesn't solve the issue.
Although exorbitant in cost, I find the temperature regulation great for adding on to a standard mattress. I'm interested in knowing if it makes any sounds or changes the feel of the mattress when laying on top and or during the night. Thanks for the review
It does interrupt the feel of ur mattress especially if it's like a memory foam. But as for the sound, it's very quiet and if you have a fan on you can barely hear it
I never had any issues with being a hot sleeper until mattresses started coming onto the market with a high content of foam. This is especially so when I used to sleep on those foam toppers. Latex foam toppers offer little relief in this area as I’ve tried two so far. Loved the cushion and pressure point relief but hated waking up at 3am feeling like a turkey on thanksgiving day. This sounds like it would be exactly what I need but there’s just too many components that can, and will eventually fail. I purchased a NightAir adjustable mattress last year and love the ability to adjust the firmness of the different areas of the mattress but in less than a year I’ve needed to replace the air controller twice and will need to call the company to send yet another controller as I type this. Why is it so had to find a good mattress that doesn’t contain any foam?
The thing that I like most about this Eight Sleep Pod Pro Cover is being able to have separate temperatures for each side of the bed. I'm not sure I would buy this cover because of the price point.
Wonder if they were smart with the design of the pump in that if one side is hot and the other is cold that it acts like a heat pump siphoning heat from one side to the other. Example being I like cold, my wife likes hot, I generate a lot of heat, so would it work effectively in pumping my heat into her side.
Hello! Thanks so much for your deep-dive review, I really appreciate it because like so many here, I'm a little hesitant to pluck this much from my bank account unless it would be really worth it to me. You are really providing a responsible, objective analysis for us. Question: (and I so hope you're still answering questions) I've seen you say several times that those people who own a memory foam mattress might be a bit dissatisfied because the inner workings might feel a bit more noticeable--- what about people like me who own a hybrid, latex mattress with some memory foam? And 2. Wouldn't a low profile mattress pad alleviate the problem? Thanks sooo much!!!
My favorite thing is the two zones for temperatures regulation. Does the alarm function vibrate the individual sides or the whole bed? It would be super useful to be able to wake up without waking my partner.
Do you happen to know if this would work with a sleep number mattress? I tried asking customer service, but they didn't seem to understand what I was asking...
I'm guessing this cools water by refrigeration rather than evaporation as some systems do. It's a pretty dramatic difference of course as with an evaporative cooling system you have to constantly pour water into the tank. This system seems pretty good except for the whole "phone app" thing. That's OK for some , not for others. Some people want the data on their sleep but a lot of others won't want someone else gathering that data as well or the hassle of wi fi disconnecting, setting up apps etc. At the end of the day it's a data harvesting device for the company that sells it not for you. Anything you have to connect to your phone is a data harvesting device.
The fact you can't use it at all with an adjustable base kills it for me. Haven't seen like anyone talk about this except your video. I thought you might be able to like "turn off" the device to use your adjustable base, but since there's that metal bar in the middle you can't even do that. I get why they don't have it working for an adjustable base since it needs a flat flow of water to work, but it would be nice to have an "off mode" for when you just want to use an adjustable base without it activate. Oh well... will wait for their next model I guess.
And agreed about the "wanting to sleep in the middle of your bed" ... they seem to make it for couples who share a bed. What about people who don't share a bed and want all the awesome features just for themselves? Oh well...
Customer service is a joke. Phones not answered, chat not operating, emails not responded to apart from robo-responses. Dealing with Eight Sleep was so problematic I'm now pleased I never actually got a working product delivered just to have any ties now severed. I got (most) of my money refunded. Cannot comment on the actual product since I never got to use it.
I was just ready to buy this. I have been researching different types for months. I saw it was on Black Friday sale and was about pull the trigger and did one more search for videos and found yours. Thanks for the in depth review. I have an adjustable base and after seeing your review this may not work for us. Shoot!! I was really liking this pod cover.
QUESTION: Is there scientific data that 8Sleep actually improves sleep? Would the sleep get worse than pre-8 sleep baseline when someone is travelling and not using the 8sleep?
As stated in the video, it doesn't work as well with memory foam beds since the memory foam is so plush, the water tubes are more noticeable. Seems like you'd want a bed like a Tuft & Needle since it is not a memory foam bed.
Giveaway: love how you guys are so thorough on your reviews. Prices, pros, cons, discounts, and policies. This is better information then most customer service you are provided, when going into stores. Thank you so much.
Favorite thing about the cover is being able to change both sides since my husband always likes a little bit colder. That's why we also like our car that has dual control for temperature!
Like the heating cooling hate that thy tied a $25 a month fee just to use it. Thats a deal breaker. I would pay 3k or 4k to necer have to pay monthly just to sleep.
I'm like and what's the point of the sleep tracking without 02, blood pressure, and an EEG As you're saying this is fine without having one of those wearables.. Man said one wearable... 🧐😬
First of all, that is so cool and innovative! I like that you can change the temperature because I’m always too hot. Two different temps on each side is cool too, I can make the other side warm for my cats lol.
I’d say the best features are the sleep tracking and the temperature control. I like more of a cool temperature which is perfect for me and just knowing the data of your sleep seems cool.
Any women hitting menopause looking at this thing? Wondering if it would be okay on an adjustable bed. Is it gonna screw things up if we raise the head/foot of the bed for a while?
Am I going to have to buy a monthly subscription just to be able to use a bed cover I've already shelled out a lot of money for? Who wants to look at a phone screen when they're trying to sleep? A separate remote and/or buttons built into the side of the cover would be a smarter approach.
According to their website the subscription is included in the price now, presumably after complaints about ongoing costs. Regarding the phone screen, I think the idea is that you set it up to automatically do what you works and tweak as neccessary, rather than wake up in the middle of the night uncomfortable.
I got the POD 3 the week it came out and they sent me the wrong mattress. It’s supposed to come with an 11 inch mattress to go with the 1 inch comfort topper. They sent me the 10 inch mattress that goes with the cheaper PRO model, it even said PRO on the box. I notified them that the box said PRO and it seems like they sent me the wrong mattress. They said it was correct and I want ahead with the setup. I slept on the mattress for 3 weeks before I decided to measure it and well I was right, wrong mattress. It took forever to get a hold of the customer support and I had to provide video and pictures of the mattress measuring 10 inches. They finally shipped out a replacement mattress, and again the box said PRO on it. I notified them the box said PRO, and I have the POD 3, and once again they assured me it was the right mattress. I went ahead with the setup, and after 2 weeks I measured the replacement mattress and once again it was the 10 inch pro model.. I wonder how many people are paying for the POD 3 and getting a cheaper, wrong mattress. At this point I decided to return the complete system for a full refund, which they did do as I was within my 100 night trial. I do not recommend eight sleep mattress, but I did however love the cooling technology. I would recommend everyone to get their own mattress then purchase the POD COVER..
I guess the temperature control. I wear a Fitbit that tracks my sleep and I don’t mind it. Wouldn’t card for the firm feel or the seam on the 8 sleep. The concept is cool though.
Giveaway: what I like most about it is the active cooling feature for a more reasonable price then the pod pro mattress. Plus one can get the cooling benefits and still get the mattress of choice if the eight mattresses isn’t a good fit. Really really want one of these once I have a new mattress to combat my night sweats/hot flashes and monitor my narcolepsy.
The thing that I found most compelling about this cover is the temperature control. Other than that, I don't really dig the way it looks. Well explained on the features.
A clever idea Eight Sleep! Especially as our world is heating up. However the bulky center seam, and hefty price tag are prohibitive to the very people who might buy it?
People sleep better at certain temperatures throughout the night. Most people need it cooler for better sleep- my main interest in this, but it isn't mentioned. From sleep expert Matt Walker: "Your body needs to drop its core temperature by about 2 to 3 degrees Fahrenheit to initiate sleep and then to stay asleep. And it's the reason you will always find it easier to fall asleep in a room that's too cold than too hot. So aim for a bedroom temperature of around 65 degrees or about 18 degrees Celsius
Giveaway: my wife and I both are heavy people and recently purchased the king size Casper Select 12" while it was on sale for $650 from Costco. About 2 weeks in so far and no real complaints other than I feel I am sleeping a bit on the warm side, and I imagine the Eight Sleep Pod Pro Cover might help with that. We had the Zinus 12" Green Tea Memory Foam before the Casper and it lasted about 2 years for us before it started to sag and another year before it was almost unusable. In our spare bedroom we have the Zinus 12" Gel Memory Foam and it feels far better than the Green Tea memory foam mattress.
My favorite thing would be having a heated bed on cold days. But my area has a decent amount of power outages and I’d be worried about sleeping on cold water. Also I wonder how sturdy it is if pets sleep in the bed with you.
You could potentially get an uninterruptible power supply if the outages are not too long. If they're long, yeah, that could get expensive to get backup power to keep things running.
Just got my bed and worst customer service ever Mattress Cover comes in three boxes, don't start installing until you get them all. The rep on customer chat was really snotty and not helpful. Super unimpressed so far and if this is the level of support for such a premium price this is going back during the return interval.
After reading a bunch of customer reviews, I'm very leary of buying something this expensive. The majority of actual customer reviews were involving the app being difficult, the hub shutting itself off during the night, but mostly the horrible customer support. $3800 for a Cali king is a lot of dollars to pay for something that has this many issues.
Giveaway: Well I'm sorry but there was nothing about the cover I really liked. It was way too technical for me and even though it had temperature control I don't think I would like feeling the water coils in the pad not to mention the control pod was way too obtrusive for my liking. So sorry there wasn't anything I actually liked about the cover.
I'm waiting for mine to come now and I'm terrified. I am very sensitive to bumps and lumps, but I'm also sick and tired of waking up scorching. My husband is sick of me freezing the house out in an effort to help me sleep through the heat. My memory foam mattress helps me so much with the lump/bump issue, but retains SO much heat. I'm also frustrated with the fact that I can't use my adjustable bed with this thing on it. This is going to be a problem as my husband and I sleep on two queen beds pushed together. (Think a split king, but ten feet wide.) Making my bed without lifting the top up is going to be so hard. I'm hoping I can figure out a work around. The only reason I'm trying this is because I'm desperate and there's a money back guarantee. I'll try my best to make it work for me.
@@birdbrain2573 Oh, you absolutely do NOT want that. Opposites attract for a reason. If two people who were like us ever got together the poor old doggo would freeze to death! lol! Seriously, I've had three nights on the cover and it's amazing. I'm not gonna lie, that first night was really rough, but that's because I had no idea where to start with my temp settings. Night two was much better. Night three was even better than that. My only gripe is that there doesn't seem to be a way to set the times for the two middle temp shifts. I'm going to reach out to eight sleep for help with that. I want CONTROL. My other issue is with ME. The first two nights I woke up freezing after 5AM. But this morning I was overheated. Got some playing around to do to figure that part out. But I'm getting some solid, quality SLEEP for the first time in months! I freaking LOVE this!!
