No one teaches us to cherish ourselves more than others. From the moment of birth, and even before, our attention is focused on what we need for our own survival and happiness. This is a natural human impulse that we all share. However, by focusing on our own well being while ignoring or even harming others, we actually bring the opposite result: dissatisfaction and suffering. Those who succeed in practicing kindness and compassion with both friends and enemies, like a mother does for her child, receive both short and long term beneficial results.
Geshe Langri Tangpa's inspirational text is a classic in the lojong (mind-training) genre. For those who aspire to follow the bodhisattva path, it is a blueprint for how to be in the world. These lojong practices are a radical departure from our habitual ways of operating, helping us to train our minds to see obstacles and difficulties as precious treasures, ultimately leading us to liberation and enlightenment.
His Eminence Kyabje Ling Rinpoche will give a commentary on Eight Verses of Thought Transformation on April 22 and 24. This is an extremely fortunate opportunity to receive teachings on this transformational text by such an eminent teacher.
