No electricity required for this piece, this is a 100% foot powered mechanical instrument, using air, wooden chambers and brass reeds to produce the sound. Want to see more about reed organs or latest news? Visit / rodneyjantzi. . and click like :)
I think this is a perfect hymn for this organ to open it up and let it blast :)
"Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott", or in English "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God" is one of the best known hymns of Martin Luther's. Luther wrote the words and composed the melody sometime between 1527 and 1529.
Played on a Dominion Orchestral reed (pump) organ manufactured in Bowmanville, Ontario Canada in 1910.

Rodney this is the nicest I've ever heard this hymn played. It is a beautiful hymn and you played it beautifully. Blessings and Happy Easter to you and your entire family in Jesus The Christ s name.

Wow, that is really the greatest, fulliest and unique sound of a reed organ I have ever heard. I totally agree to you, that this is a perfect hymn for this organ to open it up and let it blast! Hope to hear more blasting sounds from this organ. Greetings from Germany :)

Sorry to have discovered your videos so much after their publication. I am floored at the commanding, magisterial sound of this instrument! I owned a 1910 Schiedmeyer harmonium d'art that simply could not complete with your reed organ. (Except maybe for the percussion stop.) Bravo! A grand choice of hymns, as well. Thank you for stirring my soul this morning!

So I was one of those kids who liked to say for the benediction as everybody left the sanctuary. Grandparents had an old reed organ. They sold it as they aged. So I started collecting midi keyboards and made an early pre-Hauptwerk electronic organ. But then I wanted more. So I got mom an Allen 2-manual church organ. We put that in the dinning room. Then I found a Rogers Trilogy B-32 and we put that in the front living room (that nobody uses anymore). Then I got rid of the Allen and later replaced it with a Lowrey Holiday. Then she had to move to an apartment and we sold the Trilogy but kept the Lowrey. Now, she wants to get rid of the Lowrey and get an old pump reed organ. So this helps me decide on a model.

that is a beautiful orchestral reed organ. Must have to have a heavy hand to move the keys with couplers as in a tracker pipe. Ein Feste Burg is a great hymn and you play it as beautifully as if you were playing a pipe organ. What a sound!

Theodore Biele This organ's keys are quite heavy when all of the couplers are engaged. It is still one of my favorites in my collection at home because it has such a range of sounds.

Magnificent instrument. I have never heard such a grand sound from a reed organ. I have thought for years about getting a good one but the problem is to know which manufacturer and which model, and to find one in good or practically restorable condition. I think you may have answered the question about which manufacturer.

Look for a 16 foot bass section and musette stop (slightly out of tune). I am rebuilding one right now, hasn't had any work done in a century. Low tech work easy to rebuild. Any brand, they copied the heck out of each other.

Good question ap xpandy....Aint no pedals under there but the bellows pumping ones! The pedal tones can be simulated through coupling lower bass reeds. This keeps the character of pipe organ music for the most part, and for most Congregations, this would be a more than adequate organ. The overtones shimmer much in the way a pipe organ's would.

A quick question. Years ago, I played a 'wurlitzer'. It was called a 'church organ'. It appeared to be electronic, but someone said that it had reeds to provide the tone generation. I never really looked into that (I didn't like the sound it made), but it has stuck in my head - after all these years!
@ReedOrgans
@ReedOrgans 7 лет назад
These electric reed organs are still out there. Instead of using electronics for the oscillation of the tone, they used regular reeds with electronic pickups - so the tone could be filtered and changed electronically.

Mine isn't half as rich sounding and needs billows fixed...i have a grand piano, Baldwin church organ i got in 74....2 electronic key board (Yamaha)...AND a pump organ...we have a huge entryway, so i have a grandfather clock, antique sewing machine, antique curio cabinet and my pump organ....i often open the 2 front doors and play my heart out...we're out in the country, no one but wild critters to hear me! LoL....but I MUST find one of these...just must have! Would love taking this to my church, have you play! I'm sure you'll get a standing ovation!

The sounds on each keyboard are different. The couplers allow the organist to combine the sounds from the top keyboard with those on the bottom. Also, the octave couplers duplicate what the organist plays, but up higher. The result is a really full sounds.

This sounds like a full pipe organ how does it achieve this? I assume like the large Aeolian orchestrelle models this uses pressure to blow the reeds as only this can produce a true pipe organ sound of this intensity as in pressure reed organs the sound is blown outwards rather than being drawn inwards as in suction instruments.
@ReedOrgans
@ReedOrgans 10 лет назад
Thanks for commenting! The full sound that you hear has a lot to with the large amount of reeds in this instrument, and the voicing of the reeds. This organ operates by suction, and unlike a pipe organ has a wide range of expression available by operating the treadles lighter or heavier.
