The white deer is a Finnish film directed by Erik Blomberg , subtitled "The Tale of the Witch's Love", completed in 1952 . In terms of species, the White Deer mostly represents horror fantasy. The White Deer recently became a landmark work of Finnish Cinematography. The film received many international accolades in its time, and was also awarded at the Cannes Film Festival in 1953. The film was produced by Junior-Filmi.
The white deer has been characterized as "a film of images, faces and action". There is little dialogue. The narrative is primarily based on images and music.
Einar Englund's music has received attention in reviews of the White Deer. The film is almost completely (through) composed, and its music has been described as supporting the theme of the work. The connection of music to the different dimensions of the film has been considered to be exemplary. In the backwater stages, the music is idyllically picturesque, when supernatural forces come along, the music also accelerates its pace. The music has been said to reflect the landscape of Lapland and the soul of the people of Lapland. According to the Frenchman D. Théokary, the music of the White Deer has three central themes: folkloristic (lyrical), elegiac (magical) and dramatic.
Englund built his compositions on themes of Lappish songs and songs. As a style, he used his characteristic neoclassicism . In playing, Englund favored brass instruments . The extensive use of drumming has given the film a sense of fate.
White deer's music is characterized by paraphrases and, above all, polarization. With the help of music, the visual language of the film gets the look the director wants. As in classical music, the White Deer also uses chromaticism to express the forces of death and evil.
