I saw Girija Devi sing in concert in Austin sometime in the 90s. It was a wonderful experience in a small hall, and she smiled at me many times. I will never forget her.

काश माता का गाना सोलो ही रहता क्योंकि ऐसे बड़े कलाकारों को अकेले की बहुत समय चाहिए होता है मिजाज बनाने के लिए ..... यहां माता बांसुरी की वजह से अपना गाना अपना मिजाज सेट नहीं कर पा रही है .....क्या बात है अद्भुत अति सुन्दर क्या सधी हुई आवाज जय हो जय हो

this song is a highly devotional written by Soordas it is actually highly allegorical it talks about how spiritual enlightenment destroys the attention towards the outer world and sucks a person within it self talking away whatever he holds dear lyrics---ek din murli shyam bajayi (one day shyam i.e. Krishna played flute) mohe sur nar or sakal muni uni badariya chhayi(it has mesmerized gods, men and all ascetics and lo! the woolen clouds have appeared) jamuna neer pravah thakit bhayo (mesmerized ,the waters of yamuna river stopped flowing) chale ju nahi chalaye (unable to walk even if it wants) gaayin ke mukh datan na tran rahe bachhin chheer pibayi (the cows had to stop chewing grass and calves stopped drinking water) soordas prabhu milwe ko asha( soordas o lord in hopes to meet walks towards you in joy)

Small correction, sir. The third stanza translates as "Cows were unable to hold a single blade of grass (Trrin - Blade of grass) in their mouths and forgot to feed their calves (Chheer - milk)" . You've made such a lovely contribution to the world by translating this beautiful Surdas padh. Thank you for that.
