Eko Atlantic City Update (May 2020)

I told myself I will work at eko Atlantic,sometimes back...now this year am making their kitchen table top at Azuri. What a beautiful place

To all those saying it's taking so long: bear in mind that this is a private investment project and is subject to the market's confidence. Also it took South Korea 35 years to complete it's new smart city and that's without any ambitious land reclamation. Eko Atlantic developers have estimated that it will take that long more or less to complete the city which is normal. It took more than 40 years for New York to beome the city we know today.

I just hope we would have visionary leaders to make this work and I also hope powers that be won't frustrate the efforts of this project.

The problem with Nigerians who expect the project to be done over night is worrisome. Eko Atlantic City is built on recovered land which hiterto was Atlantic ocean,it took them 7 years of constant pumping and dredge of sand from the ocean to create the island,this was concluded in 2013. Surveying work,Geotechnics,town planning designs took about 2 years,then actual infrastructural works which includes underground sewage.electricity,water,drainage,optic fibre networks are done before civil works like roads,bridges etc commences from 2013 till 2017. The first tower construction commenced in 2013 and was completed by 2016, it was financed by the developer of the city. Any investors that wants to build must do complete Architectural designs,engineering works,etc before construction begins. The influx and accelerated work suppose to peak from this year but the issue of Corona virus and downturn in economic activities across the world has slow down everything. It is expected that things will get better by next year,then everyone will witness a number of high rise buildings and other auxilary buildings coming into reality. Eko Atlantic City is a private initiative with support from the Lagos State and Federal Government of Nigeria. Presently about 90% of the land has been acquired by investors across the world. In my view the whole dream of building an Eco friendly city is still within the time frame. Let keep hope alive.

The development is the slowest i have ever seen. They said Nigerians have money, but I don't see any evidence here. This project has been going on for God knows how long.

Not bad, but it's rather slow in progress especially as the surface area is similar in size to Victoria Island. Whereas, Egypt's new capital city which is far bigger and started construction around 2015/2016 has made so much progress already (videos of it are available here in RU-vid).

Keep it up. Lagos is the Dubai of Africa. Nigeria will be an economical powerhouse in the future if the government avoids corruption

The work done to date is great. Went to Lagos for the first time last year and unfortunately I didn’t get to see the works however, on my next trip i cant wait to get a glimpse. Smashing initiative. Cant wait to see the completed stock.

Everyone keeps rushing Eko Atlantic I don’t think people realize they’re building an ENTIRE city not a little McDonald’s, it’s gonna take a long time, they only started like 2019 most cities in America take even longer too be built, Tokyo took decades to build , same for Dubai, this is going at least twice as fast as usual cities, it’ll be worth it, even if it took 5 years at least they’re actually trying to make a difference give it time y’all patience is key, it’s best they take their time anyway if they rush they’ll mess it all up and people will complain what happened, this is best for the city

The best way to make this structure populated quickly is to make a deal withe federal govt to build a world class stadium n sponsor a football match between nigeria n dubia ...more arab investors will hear about the structure n hopefully invest

Building a new capital like what Egypt is doing or what we ve done in Abuja is different from a project like eko Atlantic. remember eco Atlantic is not a mass housing project by the govt or a private firm.office and apartment buildings will be built according to demand,so by the time the pearls, alpha and azuris are booked out more projects Will spring out.wait for the next 50 years if Nigerian economy continue to grow.

Im skeptical about the canal. That will become a big, polluted dumping ground.

As an American I’m really confused about how this works. Can someone please explain to me what Eko City exactly is. I know that it’s being built near one of the fastest growing technology hubs in the world Lagos but I don’t understand why it’s being built and where the money is coming from to have such a large city built.

Need a connective urban tissue/fabric idea at the ground level.

This project is a clear example to show how backward Nigerias economy is performing.........in a truly working economy this project should be done and over with by now.

South African construction companies would have finished this project in 4 to 5 years!

How many years will take to complete this city? perhaps maybe is not met for this generation, over 14 years now. Ask how many years it takes to build Dubai? showing us one video two towers for years.

One question? Why built this on coastline and reclaim coastline but rising sea levels? So in 2065 will this be threatened with the needs for a sea barrier?

At the rate they are going, they will finish in just 300 years. Good job. I like this project, I think it is the most ambitious project, this side of Asia, but why do projects in Nigeria take so long?

How long does it take this project to be delivered?

Nigeria is slow...look at Egypt.. they started building a new capital in 2014...look at what they have done...schools, mosques, hospitals etc...since 2006 we are still here..

Nigeria started this project by then I was in primary 1,i completed p6 yet the project is still the same and completed senior high yet the project is still the same,I graduated from University yet the project is still the same,I finished my national service yet the project is still the same,now am working,I have got married,I have a 3years old baby,yet is still the same three skycraper for almost 15 years now😂😂😂😂

This project might take 50 years, by then, all the investors will be dead or too old to reap the fruits of their labour. I guess then those buildings would be abandoned and all the homeless people in Lagos will occupy and turn everything to rubble. _Just kidding_ I wish you guys all the best. Although slow, I believe once this project is completed, this would set a precedent for the country and Africa as a whole.
