El DeBarge and his mother Etterlene "Mama" DeBarge do an interview with Denise Williams, they discuss the music business, Bobby DeBarge, etc. Mama Debarge and Williams sing together while El plays piano then El sings "Eye on the Sparrow"
Mama D. Looks like Judge Maybelene in this video. But Denise Williams should still be making music. Her voice is sick! Would love to hear her and El do a duet.
I met El DeBarge about 6 years ago when he hosted The Black Friday Event at The Chase Riverfront in Wilmington, Delaware. He was sweet and very humble.
How sweet. El loves his mama. I love to see a man show love and honor to his mother. El is so supertalented and seems to be so humble. Don't give up the fight El.
Yall, poor El. When Mama D talks about being young and starting her family, EL looks traumatized. Also when she talks about GOD. He's gotta be conflicted. MoMA D had the support of her syblings who all begged her to leave Robert. She continued to go back and had at least 3 more kids with that monster after Bunny told her that her " dad" was forcing her to have sex with him. Both parents failed those kids.
I couldn't have done it...I wouldn't have done it. Ain't no way I'm gonna lay down and make more kids with the man who molested our children, who beat them like he beat me...ain't no way.
SADLY.... she wanted THE MIXED KIDS, due to her own issues. And just happy to have a white man. And her husband TOOK FULL ADVANTAGE OF HER ISSUES. He had other kids .... she talks about destroying innocence? #smh
@@journnie You would've back then! Yall sound stupid bc back then women didn't work and they didn't get divorced. They don't have the resources that they do now were would should go with 11 kids??? Easy for you to say! Black men do it every all day they don't even support thier kids nor do they marry anybody!
LaQuida Debarge I pray your Dad is faring well these days... Haven't seen anything from him since 2017. He always seemed like he's a sweet man. I'd LOVE to get a hug! LOVE that man's WONDERFUL voice!! ❤️ Peace and Blessings to you and your family...
his father & mother were the caused of their turmoil & tribulations later in their lives. I have read both Bunny & Tommy's memoirs. family can be the worst ever!
+Mike X *_I actually ordered the book from Amazon and received it about a week ago.I became interested in their story very recently._* *_I'd heard of DeBarge but did not know much about Switch except for the song,"I Call Your Name". Bobby DeBarge voice is so haunting, to me.I love his song ,"Taste of Your Love"._*
lovinglife beautifulmelodies Mama D did her wrong BUT that is still their mother nonetheless. El once said, "we were raised in love, taught how to love, and endured in love". They were taught to love unconditionally. I think there is some parts of story people don't know
Seeing this in 2021, knowing the torment that every single one of her kids went through, I don't know what to think about this. It was beautifully done; LOVE the praise at the end. I'm feeling empathy for Etterlene. Almost all of us have been in love. Some have also done something in life that was stupid, as hindsight is 20/20. She loved that man; she had all of those kids, and I couldn't imagine the thought of seeing their little faces, wondering how she'd feed them all, as a single women. The emotional scars that their abuse has caused, ruined their career. Please let this be a lesson to someone. Etterlene should have stepped out on faith, even if they were all living in a tent.
We have to realize that our parents are too just children still learning. My mom abused me, allowed her bf to sexually abuse me as well and I still have reminders of it daily. Today I’m having an episode however, I have yet to heal fully and it’s because I have not forgiven my mom for the trauma and turmoil she placed in my life and heart. I am on a path of internal healing but I am only human, I fall short and make mistakes. Mental illness is real… it runs rampant through our black community so I’m not as judgmental as I once was. I’m praying she found herself, self love and internal healing because she had to be such a broken individual 🥺
There were family members who supported her, begged her to not go back to him with those kids. It was family that wouldn't let her take Bunny when she went back.
Go to you tube and look up ashleysaysso on the debarge family and you will or should reconsider calling Etterlene beautiful. After you watch that go back to this and notice how El takes his arms from around her when she talks about knowing the Lord.
@@lornachristian4215 How? There were no resources for a black women with 11 kids? Easy for you to say but back then people didn't get divorced and women didn't really work so you sound stupid! She had 11 kid's!
Deniece Williams is a singer from the late 70's, and 80's. Her popular songs are Silly, It's Gonna Take A Miracle, Let's Hear It For The Boys, etc. She stopped singing R&B years ago. She mostly sings gospel music.
The love for a mother is strong cause I wouldn’t be able to even look or be in the same room as my mother I would have too much hate in me but GOD has something in stores for her
El is such a uniquely anointed and appointed individual, through it all. I truly hope that he gives HIMSELF a chance at life and love sober and the way god intended it during the second half of his life. It seems that so many people (family, industry, exes) have betrayed him that he has lost his belief or confidence in everything but performing so he settles for people and behaviors (sometimes from himself and others unworthy of him (then wonders why things don't work out). A good life and real love is possible, El. Just choose aright. Blessings to you.
I understand the frustration of her not doing anything by leaving for good the first time. But she did try to do something. It's easier to say what could have been done because a lot has changed as far as who you could go to for help. Back then it wasn't easy especially in her case. She got married young to a white man who took his frustrations out on the mother and kids because he married a black woman. Because he married a black woman, he kept losing his job and kept getting no respect. Because she married a white man and had all them kids, police wouldn't have care too much and no one was willing to take them after the many times she tried to leave. During that time beating your wife was no problem in the police eyes because they felt like it is between the husband and wife. If you think about it, the law for a husband raping their wife didn't come into play until like the 80s or something like that. So yeah you are right it felt like she did nothing but we wasn't there to know 100% but of course know enough to judge. My question would be why didn't her brothers step in earlier instead of later? No one is asking why her family didn't help when she was looking for it.
@@lamelya let me tell you something....if a mutherfucker is beating my kids and molesting my kids I wiykd take my kids and sleep under a bridge or kill his ass. She could have went to a shelter. Yes I did wonder why her brothers didnt help beat the breaks off his ass. I would never let a man mistreat my kids. My husband was talking bad about my 29 year old son ( who is not his) and ask his ass what I said and eiykd have did to him. Put it this way when I was done with his ass he went and laid down. I dont play about mine now just imagine my son small and some man whether his biological father or not did something to him..... I would have ate their ass alive!!!!
It's easy to sit on the sidelines and say what we'd do in a situation. I would like to think that I'd just pick up my kids and move or let's say I did kill his a$$, I'd have to make it look like a suicide cos as Bunny says in her book, he was a white man and there's nothing, NOTHING mama Debarge could have said to make the law see it her way and do the right thing. When mama would call the cops, they'd take his side. Bunny also says that the mother did leave and take the children with her. She'd stay with family but they could only take all those kids for so long. She'd leave and get on welfare but that evil f*cker of a father of theirs would find them then go to the welfare office and tell them that he was back with the family and could/would provide for them causing welfare to cut off the family's benefits. My question would be why did she continue to have children by this man?
They appear beautiful on the outside with tremendous Talent but I can't help but think about the horrible life they had growing up as kids and what the mother and father put them through!
To this day my mother never acknowledged her husband and 2 sons molested family members she says i dont believe they did that sad now shes nursing home only 1 of her sons has went to visit her
Play that piano boy! Sang Niecy! This was nice, after seeing the bobby debarge movie, Wow just sad and I feel for everyone in the situation, God bless them all and I will forever be a Switch and DeBarge fan
I have much love and respect for El and the entire Debarge Family, and all they have contributed to the world through their music. Deniece Williams is one the best singers of all times and her catalogue of music and hits speak for themselves. I just recently saw her in concert in Atlanta and she still sounds wonderful at 68. Many blessings to them all!
HOW IS SHE AMAZING, WHILE HER CHILDREN WERE ABUSED BY HER WHITE HUSBAND=MASSA, BOBBY WAS ABUSED SO BADLY, HE HAD BRAIN INJURY'S, TURNED TO DRUG;S, THE BW'S WOMB IS THE ROOT OFF ALL EVIL=SHE'LL FUCK ANYTHING
LaQuida, me and my family have loved your family for a very long time! Last year, I had the pleasure of seeing your dad El, perform with Chaka , at The Fabulous Fox, in St. Louis!! So talented; as always! They rocked the house for 4 hours! Unbelievable performance!! 👍🎶🎹🎶
El is. Not the momma. Those kids lived horrors. Go to Ashley says so RU-vid and listen to her tell the story about the Debarge family and the horrors the children went through. See if you feel the momma has an anointing.
From their stories, they had more to worry about inside their home (their father) than outside the home. Truly sad the trauma they suffered through, without any type of trauma therapy or CPS involvement.
Love is an action word. Therefore, unconditional love is a fallacy. Their mother raising them to love abusers, unconditionally set them up to never be able to process fear, anger, and resentment. They bottle their feelings against their father and their mother and use drugs to tame their demons and deal with the pain. How can they ever learn personal responsibility if they never expected it from others? They then continue generational abuse and expect their children to forgive and love them unconditionally too and the cycle continues. There is nothing wrong with being angry and processing it. There is nothing wrong with having conditions in relationships. The first step to this family healing is for them to admit their anger toward both parents and work through it. I hope they get there.
This ! All of this! They have to walk through that pain and all those emotions, face them and feel them… ONLY then can they heal! Most people are afraid to really feel that rage and anger so they push it down but it comes out in other ways. I wish people understood this about trauma! There’s no way to get over it, you have to go through it!
Y'all know something? Sometimes... Folks hide behind the Lord Jesus to keep from taking responsibility for their lives AND WHAT THEY ALLOWED TO HAPPEN!
@@denisegriffin4343 He was beating her too. Also, the children didn't even know about each other being molested until years ago. The Most High has power and the Word works when employed. Some don't utilize the wisdom properly
@@randigleason5066 LIE! Suffering and abuse cannot hide it can be silent but the external forces are too prominent to not be noticed. They all knew it was a subject matter that was never up for discussion that's how most Christians conduct their religious beliefs they take everything to god in prayer. Look at Bobby DeBarge unsung that's one of many reasons he left home he suffered the same abuse as his mother and his siblings. It would be foolish to sit around and act like nothing is happening when you see it and feel it all around you. Read Bonnies book. Listen to James testimonies IJS
Denise Griffin Yes she did call the police on her husband but the police did nothing because of his skin color and he was married to a black woman. Look at Unsung DeBarge & Unsung Switch Programs right Her on You Tube.
What a beautiful interview! The singing was spectacular!! I love El, his mother and the DeBarges!! Their music is missed! Thank God, for RU-vid and my CD's!!! 🎶😘🎶
I'm so glad I came across this video! I love Denise, I could listen to her sing all day! Hang in there El and stay prayed up. God bless you and your entire family 💖
I grew up on these two Denice williams let's it for the boy and rhythm of the night el debarge and his siblings classics the era i came from the eighties retro.
I would like to send one video in particular with El and Mama D singing together to El but without the watermark that's on it. I have to find the hard drive with the original videos. I am going to try and send it to his IG but I know he gets a million DMs. I've messaged once in the past to let him know I'm happy to send him and fam all the videos minus the watermarks so maybe they can benefit financially from any streams. Prayers and heartfelt condolences to the DeBarge and Abney families. RIH Mama D
Even though Mama Debarge has a deeper voice then I expected… (I don’t recall really hearing her speak before) but, I could hear Bobby when she first started speaking in this video! Listen to him when he starts speaking in “I call your name“… He sounded like his mom. Wow🙏🏾💖
