Instagram - AdamTheWooATW How much longer should I continue this temporary daily series ? Obviously when it ends I’ll still pepper in food spots from time to time
Yay! My first job that I got for myself by asking, was at an El Taco near our house in Nashville, TN. The owner, Mr Chaires, was a Mexican American from southern Arizona, who had settled in Nashville after he quit the Army in Ft Campbell. He was always recruiting other Mexican American army retirees to invest their GI Bill money in a franchise. His large family, from teenagers to toddler, were often there, the older ones working various shifts, and the youngest (nicknamed "Vroom Vroom"
I’m in Nashville- when was it there? I haven’t heard of this place. I see now that he is the owner of Rosepeppers? Or an owner? I will have to pay attention next time I go as there is old el taco wall decor in there.
@@lpnffchick It's gone, replaced by a gas station, last time I saw. It could be a highrise condominimum by now. It was in Inglewood, out Gallatin Road, just before you get to Briley Parkway: between Richmond and Haysboro. It was just past the muffler shop (?) and the grocery store, which I think is now a great produce market (or was?), owned by an SDA family, just before Haysboro and the convenience store (once 7-11, then Circle K...). I wish they were still in town! The restaurant on Eastland, Rosepeppers Cantina, was started by his oldest son, Ernie, who has recently passed: RIP. I think other menbers of the family are involved. Ernie was a nice guy when I worked there. But supposedly, the green chile at Rosepeppers Cantina is the same, but a lot more expensive.
Wow, this is where I grew up & lived for first 49 years. It was great to see El Taco & the surrounding area again. I see Selman Chevrolet Dealership is still there. Thanks Adam for showing the old neighborhood.
Yeah, bummer that location closed. Even before that building I was going there with my parents and grandparents when it was only outside seating, great to see this story. Then it moved to the property next door. Good one Adam!
I loved El Taco growing up in San Leandro. I didn't know there were any left. I think your series is a hoot. Always enjoy your segments. It's a very creative idea in these very strange times. Thanks for the fun, Adam. 😃
ATW! Please continue this series, specifically with these older establishments. We need to have documentation of what was part of regional food culture in our country. This El Taco video was so cool!!!
I stop here on a regular basis. my family and i love El Taco . In fact I went there yesterday and I'm about to head there as we speak. I live right down the street on east chapman
Just watched Heyman with Jayman's video....now I'm watching yours. Glad you have an actual table to dine at. I was keeping count of the dine by dumpster videos...lol.
Love your reviews, reflecting on the SoCal nostalgia of various eateries. How bout a review of the pink hot dog eatery by one of the studios. I understand this is quite a famous eatery. Shall you!!
I’m with you on those light fixtures. So cool! To me that’s what really defines old school Southern California. Old yellow florescent lights, right out of the 70’s.
Much respect to you that you acknowledged Taco Tia. I was a kid in the 50s when my family regularly trekked there-in Redlands-for Taco Tuesday. Fond memories.
Happy 🌮 Sunday. 😄 What a cool looking building. That was nice you guys were able 2 actually sit at a table. Not stand by dumpster. 😉 The food looked delicious. So did the orange drink. Kinda reminded me of Orange Julius. Thank you 4 letting tag along. Have a blessed rest of your holiday weekend. 🇺🇸💕⚘
Adam, these restaurant videos are a blast from my past. I use to eat at the places you're visiting. I no longer reside in California, but these places are near and dear to my heart because my childhood revolved around going to them all. A Los Angeles based restaurant chain I use to go to which I HIGHLY recommend is Ramona's Mexican Food (Restaurant). Their main take out only location is on Western Ave near Rosecrans in the city of Gardena, California south of the 105 fwy. --That's also where their distribution factory is (their canned refried beans and packaged burritos are sold at 7eleven), and they've got restaurant locations all over LA available as take out only. Just as Disney has produced fans that are Disneyland addicts, Ramona's also has addicts. Ask any LA native where the nearest Ramona's restaurant is and I GUARANTEE they'll tell you where it is and they'll rant and rave about it to you. *Their first location is located in South Central Los Angeles at 69th Street and San Pedro. Their take on Mexican cuisine is authentic Sonoran, and far from Americanized. You'll love them. When you go, expect a long line. Regardless of the pandemic, people will still wait in line at all of Ramona's locations including the one on San Pedro which typically wraps around the building. They are takeout only and don't do deliveries. Their food is so worth the wait. Their signature menu items are their Bean and Cheese burritos especially (request add rice, red sauce and Green onions), and also their Taquitos (Beef or Chicken) with Guacamole and sour cream. Their portion sizes are larger at their restaurants than you'll find at 7 eleven stores. You'll get more for your money at their Restaurants. Trust me Adam, you will absolutely LOVE Ramona's. Another LA restaurant chain I loved back in the day is The Habit burger restaurants Btw, The current way I eat also recommends local Vegan franchises based in L.A. such as VeggieGrill (which has many locations all over LA) and Doomies which is a growing franchise. VeggieGrill and Doomies have locations near your old homestead in Hollywood and are phenomnomnomenal!
We love you Adam! You are so genuine and kind. You have made this unprecedented time so much easier to handle. We really look forward to your videos. Stay safe and keep filming. 🎬
Hey Adam, I used to make signs for this location as well as the San Pedro location in the 1990s. There is or if isn't there anymore was a Sign O Rama sign company in the strip center next to the El Taco and I worked there from 1993 - 1995. As you mentioned in this vlog, great food there at both locations. I ate there a many lunches while working for the sign company and dinners to take home after work. I changed many of the prices and added items on that old brown menu sign that is pealing of paint and falling apart. They are made of 029 gauge steel and the new lighted menu they have now wasn't there in the early 90s. In it's place was the same steel menus, you showed in your video, They must have taken them down for a lighted more modern type of sign.
I don't live that far from that place and I've always been hesitant to try it so now I think I'm going to try it and definitely get the orange bang. 👍🏻
Loving seeing all these places that have been around for such a long time. El Taco has a lot of good looking food. Your burrito looked so good and Jason’s enchiladas looked really good too. The orange drink looked so good and refreshing. I’m totally loving these food series. I could watch them indefinitely. It was nice that y’all got to sit and eat in the shade despite it being windy. Can’t wait to see what’s next 😊👍👍
There are a lot of vlogs adam has done in the past 10 years..he explores abandoned places ,movie locations, route 66 road trip(one of my favorites) and disney trips and more. Enjoy!
Oh wow! I used to hit this place up all the time for breakfast tacos when I lived nearby. Glad it's still there. I did notice the unique building shape of it, but now I know what it was thanks to your vid 👍
Such memories! When our family came back to visit other relatives in Cali, we had dined atvEl Taco. And probably the one on Euclid, as it was close to where family lived. Having been born in that area, lived a short time, it still holds fond images of us enjoying food and family!. I wouldn't be surprised if we had stopped at this very same El Taco as well!
Thanks for the suggestion! We have driven by many times but never stopped so we went for lunch today. Had asada tacos, ground beef taco, an enchilada and fries. Delicious! Keep up the daily vlogs!
You reminded me of a childhood experience. My parents had just moved to California. We were driving down La Cienaga Blvd. in Los Angeles in 1961 and I saw a sign that said "Tacos .19 cents". My Father's buddy, who was showing us around, said, "Oh, that's a greasy Mexican food with meat on a corn shell". That was my trigger. I proceeded to get car sick and hurled my cookies all over the back seat. That was the first time I ever heard of Tacos.
the more original one(s) are in Downey and San Pedro. I grew up going to the other one that was in Downey on Firestone near Old River School Road. The current and last one in Downey is on Florence Ave. near Paramount. And the least new one (as far as I know) is in San Pedro. One of them just closed on Euclid/Orange (where Orange ends) when I was a kid I got tacos which are really good but then I started liking their burrito style quesadillas and now when I go there I get a chili relleno burrito and a combo quesadilla oh man I think I'm gonna have to drive through the one in San Pedro tomorrow or this weekend.
I got a laugh when you talked about the "wooden planks" that the rooftop sign was on. That was known as PECKY CEDAR back in the late 60's-70's. It was plentiful, it was cheap, and it gave that earthy appearance that was so popular in the 1970's! It looks awful when you paint it without filling the holes! Glad to see the place is still up and running. Last time I was there, it sat out in the open and it wasn't hidden behind those newer structures.
Love these Adam, I am loving the Taco Bell history, loved Taco Tia but have since transplanted out of CA and into Tax Free Florida. Taco Tia was a staple in high school growing up in the Inland Empire and there is one left in Redlands and I have to get there, like a turtle needs to get to the Gulf. Thank you for the history, we'll be in So Cal to catch up on real food while staying at the beach for a couple of weeks. Thank you again.
The burrito and enchiladas look delish. I guess you never went to Orange Julius? 🍊A bit of history.....It started in 1926 in Los Angeles and Dairy Queen bought them in 1987. They had yummy orange creamsicle drinks and other fruit flavors as well. I loved them as a teenager. It’s been awhile since I’ve had one. Some Dairy Queen’s still serve the Orange Julius drinks. Fun to see you enjoy a new flavor taste for the first time. 😉 Thanks as always Adam for the fun Vlog.❤️ U put a smile on my face.😁
Wow! That all looked so delicious! I love this series of food spots. I'm trying to keep notes of them all in case we get to go out to California again. Thanks, Adam!
As a former Del Taco employee (Spring, TX, circa 1983), This was fascinating to me. El Taco?! Who knew? Well, Woo knew, but other than you, who knew? Cheers from the Boston area. Another great vid.
Hi there._..I just found your channel and am having a blast video surfing your vids. I love to cook and am loving this series. I had never heard of fluffy tacos until I saw your video. Needless to say, I looked up the recipe and fried some up with steak and they were delicious. Thank you for all the food ideas. Its nice to find such a down to earth you tuber. Thank you for all of your hard work every day. And thank you for all of the businesses you've helped during these troubling times.
Right down from our house ... and we’ve never been there😟. That’s going to change after this video! I can’t believe you’ve never had an Orange Bang before. Sooo good!🍊
"Throw a rock in any direction" At the south end of that shopping mall is a super great hole in the wall. Tacos Los Reyes. You were a one minute walk from some of the best carne asada in the county. Last time I went to el taco, they were mixing their beans in a paint bucket with an electric drill. Love the history, nostalgic menu, but hit Tacos Jalisco 1 mile or so north on Walnut. With love, great channel.
I live 4 miles from this place. Never went in after all the years of driving by. Going to have to check it out. I was in Arizona over the weekend. Most of the restaurants at the towns I were at were open for dine in. It was awesome sitting down inside a restaurant with the employees not wearing masks either just like old times.
Thank you for continuing to wear a mask in your videos! So many in Orange County aren't doing it. It's so refreshing to see someone being considerate and responsible.
I like your channel! Whether your video's are from a long time ago, cross country trips, movie locations, Disney, quarantine vlogs with your collectibles, restaurant history/food reviews, you do a great job and are enjoyable to watch! I even subbed in when you were at a small park - festival in FL on a riverfront, Live for a Q&A (last summer?)...and found it very relaxing! Hope your success continues!
This was the best video so far because you added the history to it. But my husband says there was never a drive thru. Mr Bell perfected the drive thru w Taco Bell.
Loving these videos of Eating Establishments! Will be trying many of these on our next trip to LA! Stay safe and keep up the great work! Regards,......Shane (Jaggs Journeys) Australia.
Adam you did it again another old nostalgia eatery and i must say that Spanish style roof how cool is that also Adam the architectural style of that building looked very similar to the old style Taco Bell buildings from back in the day and one nice thing about that place is they have a huge menu so there’s never a dull moment when you go there also Adam i think by the looks of it you found your go to drink 🥤with that orange 🍊 bang and i must say Adam thanks for another fantastic time with your eating out and about at various locations series and with that I’ll see you on the next vlog adventure also please stay safe out there
I ordered a Pixi Mini Tripod, black by Manfrotto right off their website. $25.40 something cents free shipping. The same brand you said you had. In another upload I kept trying to figure out what you were holding the camera with. Then I noticed it was a mini tripod. Then I went back to the equipment video. Then I was like "ah okay. This makes sense" and I ordered it. 👍🤪😜
Dude you have so many great places to eat in your area and the food looks amazing. I would be in food heaven. Loving this series and real glad you are still vlogging. Stay safe and much love.
