Elac Navis ARB 51 Active wireless speakers

For as long as I have been in the audio industry, there have been active speakers. But they mainly found their way to the studio world. It is only recently these get acceptance outside of the studio environment and then mainly the speakers that can be driven wirelessly. Like the Elac Navis speakers on review here.

i hear today in Greek hi-end exhibition....the sound is fantastic!!i dont let it go from room..anything can i hear is very clear.very music.nice control bass,voices is absolut magic.maby my next option in white!

Thanks for all your great videos Hans! In my opinion the Elac Navis ARgo Bookshelf active speakers (ARB51) are wonderful, on par for example with your best videos.

@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel I bought these speakers! I have added Gaias to them and presto. Outstanding sound quality. I can not recommend them highly enough. The front end is the decider, so if you like these speakers it will be fun finding the best front end. I am a streamer, on the quest. Thanks again Hans!

I was thoroughly impressed by these speakers when I heard them at the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest (RMAF) in Denver in October. I think they are an astounding value at $2,000. You can also buy a non-powered version for much less. I had a chance at RMAF to talk with Andrew Jones about the speakers and also hear him explain them to the 6 or 8 people in the room listening. What a treat! I told him the truth: that he did a fantastic job with these speakers.

The Hans Beekhuyzen Channel No worries Hans. Only if you find an opportunity. A lot of hypes out there but not a single professional and trustable like yours. I’m quite keen on all-in-one packages like KEF LS50W.

Hans I have a question. I watch your video and I know that, in terms of power supply, I should keep analog sources separate from digital sources. I am not sure sometimes what are considered digital and what are analogs. I believe my flat screen tv, apple Tv, dvd player w smp are all considered digital. But how about the Navis? Do we consider it as a digital or analog component?

Hi Isaac, just curios are you using them with the wireless connect module ? or you have them connected to a Dac ? Also how are you fining them after 7 months? im thinking of getting a pair.

@@ohnonate I connect a dac and preamp to the speakers. The only dac that does not need a preamp is the chord hugo TT. After months of usage, to me the arb51 is very fine pair of speakers. It has high end aspirations at a modest price. It is transparent enough to tell you the quality of the equipment you connect to it, which is something that is very important for the hobby. It sounds very good too. I like it very much. It does takes time to run in.

Thanks for this informative review! I have the Sennheiser HDV820 headphone amp (DAC + preamp) with XLR 3 output, I really like the sound. Do you think it would improve the sound if I plug it with the Elac Navis ARB 51 speakers or not?

I would be delighted to watch your review of the Kef LSX. At around 1300euro I find them appealing to the ‘normal’ audiophile. I bought them and am very pleased.

so if I want to integrate these speakers with my PC I need to add External DAC? these speakers are pure analogue? and no any dacconvertion inside? if so what dac can you reccomend with this speakers?

Hi Hans, great video! This is my first time on your channel and I think you just sold me on the Navis. I might take 'em! I also recently purchased an Airpulse A300. Have you heard of those? Pretty nice for the price.

Why would you need this BASH topology when in an active speaker the load is defined? Isn't a impedance equalizing circuit more appropriate?

Hi Hans! Thanks for the informative video. Can I ask how exactly you connected the Navis to Chord Mojo? I'm looking to use these speakers with my TV without having to spend extra money on the discovery connect (I already have a Mojo). Thanks

Just use a 3.5 mm jack to 2 x RCA cable between the Chord and the Elac’s and make sure you start with the Chord volume set low.

How would you compare the Elac Navis arb-51 powered speakers to the Elac Vela BS403.2 passive jet tweeted speakers in terms of sound quality? And is there a standby switch for the Navis speakers, or must you manually switch off the speakers every time? Unfortunately in Canada it's very tough to find a place to sample these units.

Great review Hans. It make you wonder when manufacturers of excellent equipment like this are going to stop shipping units with these wall wart power supplies? I mean, they clearly cause under-performance every time. I guess the answer is with economics and not audiophile-omics.

Well, if they would include a proper psi, the Brice would go up. Now you can choose your desired quality.

Hi, I am little confused. I have a pre power set up with the pre amp having a phono stage. I am hoping to lose the power amps and replace the phono preamp with something better. But also have a CD player, could I connect this to the RCA connectors and use the XLR input for the record deck? (if the new preamp has XLR outputs). But is there a way to presently connect both my CD player and Deck straight away? Also in wireless I just want to stream from my phone, would I do this by Bluetooth? Does the ROON you speak of need a subscription or is there a basic free version or will the free Spotify work? Sorry so many, but I have never ventured into DACs and ‘endpoints’ and steaming before! Really good review, subscribed!

I would advise you to keep using a pre-amp to control input and volume. You could search for a pre-amp with better phono inputs and Bluetooth reception.

Thank you for another interesting video! You challenge us to find an equally good stereo for the money. Though I wasn't able to compare, I wonder whether the Nubert nuPro X-4000 have the makings to beat the Elac ARB 51. Pros: 30Hz(-3dB), loads of connection-possibilities, 1550€/pair (and a timeless look). Does the integrated DAC in an active speaker need to support MQA or is for example a Node 2i sufficient to get the benefits of it?

The advantage of the Elac is that it has analog inputs and analog filtering, which in this price bracket usually beats digital inputs and DAC's in the speakers. If active speakers do use digital inputs and thus have one or more DAC's inside, MQA would offer improvement when MQA music is played. BTW I have no experience with - and thus no opinion on - the Nubert speakers.

I connected the Elac's to the Mojo analog outputs using a 3.5mm Jack to RCA adaptor..

Are these worth pursuing as a near field speaker 2-4 feet away on a desk and near a wall?

Being dual concentric speakers means they sound composed when used at short distance. Close to the back wall is a challenge for about any speaker. Luckily these Elac's have switches on the rear to adjust for placement close to the wall.

Well, it’s never proven, for as far as I know. But you can use them wired for then the radios are switched off. BTW, it's wifi and not GSM 4G or 5G.
