Eladrin are elves with their fey magic cranked up to 11. Emotional, powerful, in-tune with nature, the eladrin represent everything that was once wild and primal within elven-kind. While technically a subrace for elves, the eladrin are unique and diverse enough on their own to deserve a bit of the spotlight. Let your emotions guide you through the feywild as we go through everything you need to know about eladrin 5e.

I am creating a wild magic sorcerer Eladrin. She's 19 and was flung from her home in the Feywilds into the Material Plane when she was only 14 years old. The past 5 years she'd been living with a group of orphans who are being cared for by a veteran inn-keep. As a side-effect of the incident that brought her to the Material Plane she cannot remember anything about her home, the Feywilds, her family and not even her name. The kids took to calling her Sara as that was written on her panflute (Her real name is Sarastra but the latter part had been etched out during the teleportation). Even though she cannot remember anything from her past she still exhibits her explorative nature, openness towards others and eagerness to talk to everybody, ask questions, get to know them etc. This makes her a stark contrast to the bleak poor quarters she is living in now and over the past years had made her very beloved by most inhabitants there. Her primary forms are Spring and Autumn with Spring being the most predominant one. However, she does switch between all four. I managed to cut a deal with my DM to allow her to switch form "at will". He allowed it as long as there is an obvious reason like shifting emotions and I don't abuse it with the misty step effects. (Which I don't intend to as I just want to use it for RP. I'm really looking forward to playing her and honestly when I came across the Eladrin race it was almost immediately decided I would pick that race.

I have an Eladrin Circle of the Shepherd druid. He's rather young, and newish to the material plane and so can't control his seasons or his magic very well. As a result he might very well have a different season each day, depending on how he feels, his connection with the land etc. One side effect of his lack of control is that his spell access seems currently to be circumscribed by his current season. No fire spells if he's having a winter day... This extends (fluffwise) somewhat into other areas of his magic. Conjured animals might be in their winter coats if he's in the same mood, and his wildshape forms will likewise have an appropriate seasonal colouration. Not always useful, to be in your winter colours in summer, for example.

To summarize the video: Leonardo DeCaprio’s character from inception describes elves that have seasonal depression (in all seriousness this was a good vid and very helpful for making my eladrin)

Ive been Eladrin since 4e. Loved it way back then, and the massive boost we got in 5e let me know I truly chose the best race to properly represent my adventures. Love Eladrin and always will love them

I created an Eladrin character, his name is Delwyn and he is a draconic sorcerer. He doesn't know much about what he can do or anything about his culture. He was kidnapped at a very young age and rescued and raised by white dragon. He's a winter Eladrin because to him that's what he must be, with his parent being a white dragon and living on top of a snowy mountain, he sees it as the only natural conclusion. As such, he thinks he can only use cold magic and that bone chill is obviously winter themed or else he wouldn't be able to use it.

My new favorite race! Just created a young bard. Each season is a different person with a different personnality, yet autumn is the "base" one. The character is genderfluid. Autumn and Summer are male while Winter and Spring are female. And of course, my character as 4 different names. I'm gonna have way too much fun with this.

Neat! This video is my first time seeing content related to the Eladrin. My current character is very similar to yours, being gender fluid and being more fem- or masc-presenting depending on the season. Though, mine is generally always in “summer” phase, unless a heavy internal or external influence causes them to shift to reflect the psychological impact of the event. (Ex, they’d switch to winter phase if they experienced a great loss, or autumn if they attended a particularly eventful or exciting party) They’re also a star circle Druid, so their starry form changes slightly depending on the season as well.

@SkullSplitter It would be very situational but the Spring feature could come in quite handy too. - teleporting an ally into melee range of an adversary as a bonus action and following it up with something like Dissonant Whispers forcing the enemy to use its reaction to move away from you and giving your ally an attack of opportunity, or let's say you have an adversary with two allies in melee range, you move another ally into melee range, cast Dissonant Whispers, the enemy fails its save and has to move, and now they've got three attacks of opportunity coming their way, and perhaps your allies have already had their turns and now they're all getting bonus attacks in that round and possibly taking out the enemy before it has a chance to attack again, or maybe it's the boss and taking it out prevents it from using a legendary action to call in more minions or heal itself. Could be the difference between success and a TPK if your party is barely hanging on for life, and to save your entire party with the use of such a simple feature would be pretty amazing. - perhaps an ally is just inside the edge of an area of effect spell such as Entangle or Cloud kill, you can move alongside them but just outside of the spells effect, and teleport them to safety - if you didn't have a spell like Thunderstep, or were out of level three spell slots, or we're just saving it for that upcoming Fireball, you could use this ability to teleport away an ally who has already spent their action and is in danger of going down on their next hit with the enemy turn coming up, perhaps you are able to teleport them next to an ally who who has a touch healing spell or can administer a health potion, or maybe there's a ledge 30 ft up that you can teleport them to, or behind cover even. etc - or how about teleporting that Ranger with Sharpshooter up to that ledge thus keeping them safe from melee combatants and allowing them to snipe away, or the squishy Wizard who can then reign down take your pick, or maybe you teleport the Barbarian up there and they push a huge boulder down on top of the enemy or in front of a cave entrance and block additional enemies from exiting. - I could see this coming in handy when trying to steal, sabatoge or perhaps even place an item, slipping the Rogue behind enemy lines or into a locked room that you can see into through a window I'm sure that there are a lot of other creative ways that this could be put to use. I just like doing creative and useful stuff in the game, as well as dealing lots of damage too. But I could definitely see the trickster element. 😁

I have created a Eladrin thats a bloodhunter, he was turned into a vampire spawn but has slight more free will thus why his eyes look more darker red. However, because he doesnt see himself as what he became he often just sees himself as what his born as a Eladrin elf. I wanna do a homebrew setting with this character so that I can work on his vampiric abilities with making em not op but physically enough thats it has disadvantages as much as advantages. His main colors are usually his primary genes (slightly much lighter dark skin & white hair despite his vampiric differences) but his moods change equally as any other Eladrin physically. I wanna gain some experience before using him.

I'm creating an Eladrin Bard that doesn't necessarily sing, but writes his magic. Name Markos Haelstrum. His whole thing is that he is the sole surviving proprietor of Hailmarking; greeting cards, post cards, baubles, trinkets, and ornaments (Hallmark.) He does greeting cards for bardic inspiration. Like if one in his party is talking to a hostile npc, right before combat he sends "Reasoned meetings prevent season beatings!" His back story is that he started this company with 4 other people that are the foundation of holidays and loves to tell everyone about them (in reality, he is the actual founder of each holiday, but doesn't remember. Each event was traumatic and he made up these aliases to cope, but forgot they were him along the way.) His Fall counterpart is Jacques Lanterne of Headless Hallow who "created" Halloween, the Headless Horseman, and Jack-o-Lanterns. His Winter persona is Nikolas Kristoff, the Silent Knight of the Order of the Sanquine Claw who "created" Yule and St. Nick/Kris Kringle/Santa Claus. I have two for Spring, Pyotr Ishtar, a Herengon, who "created" Easter and Peter Cottontail the "Easter Bunny" or Padraig O'Clover the Serpent Slayer who "created" Saint Patrick who drive out the snakes. I haven't been able to come up with a summer theme yet. Maybe I'll shift Pyotr or Padraig over, but I can't decide which yet... anyone have anything?

Made a two-weapon fighter who was a mix of Avariel and Eladrin. His backstory is rather complex and a tad bit tragic in order to justify this and therefore I believe it makes him incredibly compelling to play as. Additionally combat is super fun as you can fly down, stab your enemy, teleport away and then cast an attack spell or use a ranged attack with your second attack for an insane combo. In order to strike a balance between having the ability to both teleport and fly I decided to tweak the fey step trait so that it can only be used if the character is on the ground but, regardless, his build makes both combat and roleplaying very fun and he is definitely my favorite out of all my characters.

currently creating my Eladrin character... she is going to be very intensely linked to her season emotion/look wise, but mainly stays as spring as she was raised by "spring" ...Aladrin? (from what she can remember as real from her childhood .. i mean imagine growing up in the feywilds). she's gonna be an archfey warlock ! (she'll have bpd like me which makes it easier to roleplay, as i can correspond her season per session to how i'm actually feeling). .... "i one day talked to a lovely Unicorn... who told me all about a world where things don't change and have a solid form - which i just couldn't believe - i don't particularly know a lot about my patron, but they were super nice !! and now i have powers to protect myself!!!" (imagine the most sparkly my little pony rainbows and happiness eldritch blast ever... whilst she's "spring" anyway) . She is very young in terms of being Eladrin (she can live to 750 years plus...), but seems around her early twenties to onlookers. she particularly was looking for a way to protect herself from the magic creatures in the feywild and views her patron as an absolute saint for "rescuing her" !!! she's not sure how long she's been out of the feywilds, as she says "time works strangely in this plane..." often-(although usually after burning/undercooking food and making everyone sick). I think it's a funny concept as people describe time working strangely in the fey when they are suddenly taken there, and .. so wouldn't she find time just as odd here... but her patron "promised" her safety so she's not too concerned. she is comforted by the seemingly consistent pace of this world, and becomes quite attached to it across the campaign. sometimes she will be terrified/grossed out of things that juxtapose in our version of reality - aka teapots are ALL SUPER EVIL in the feywilds and feels mildly anxious whenever she sees one, and will always point it out to the party to make everyone "aware" of the danger. or some other strange thing. if she considers you a friend, she'll make you a daisy chain out of the flowers on her body - depending on how you treat it usually depends on her attitude towards you in the future - eg, if you throw it away she's not gonna like you. she genuinely has no idea how long ago she left the feywilds. (aka the dm has creative freedom on my patron and background!). she is driven to become stronger so she can protect herself ... and until now has never questioned what/who her patron actually is. haha sorry for super long comment i'm still tweaking a few things ... ❤❤ loved the video !!

I have a question if someone can help. I have an eladrin bard with a criminal background, which according to dnd beyond gave me 6 proficiencies to choose at level 1. My dm said no, i only get 3 as a level 1 bard. So i have 3 empty proficiencies on the app. I wouldnt go against what my dm says but im wondering what other people think. It doesnt make sense to me for her class to overrule her race, shouldnt they both be counted? She was an eladrin before becoming a bard of course
@SkullSplitter

That does make sense to us; you can get proficiencies from class, race and background.

You skipped over the fact they get two flexible weapon or tool proficiencies. Now being able to switch something like a tool proficiency is normally quite Meh. Until you mix in Fabricate. Now your Eladrin is suddenly the master of all crafting!

Not sure what all is available for Autumn but I feel there is more then just oranges and reds.
