I don't know when this concert was - but it wasn't last year. This clip was posted last year. However, apparently Elaine was still 'hoofing it up' in the Drowsy Chaperone in '07. She's had amazing longevity.
They found a recording she made for charity, and quite frankly I like that even better! I'm surprised at how she looses that accent when she sings, very unique
In this respect, Elaine Paige had the great advantage of making her professional debut in her late teens. If 'SuBo' were embarking on a 40 year career now, it would take her through to her late 80s!!
not when she did it in Les Miserables... in character... when she was younger... she's in her 60's, for heaven's sake.. you're making that judgment because all you know about Elaine is that youtube video of her singing "I Dreamed a Dream".. you haven't seen anything yet!
I guess I'm going to have to see her live. I've watched many of her performances on video and thought she was quite good but couldn't understand her impressive following. It doesn't seem like she's really enjoying performing. I guess it's in her eyes. I get the same feeling watching Bernadette Peters. BUT ... again ... seeing her live would probably make a world of a difference.
I've seen Elaine Paige live and she has the most incredible voice. Personally I prefer marti Webb who connects better with her audience. Lest we forget Paige is a talented actress & in that respect Boyle can't compete. That said, good luck to Boyle. Let's hope her dream is all it's cracked up to be
