2013, I found out I was pregnant, started bleeding. Waited for 4 agonising days for the scan. It showed a healthy heartbeat. I cried so hard, couldn't wait to see my mum to tell her the good news. As I crossed the road from the hospital, she happened to drive by. She pulled over, as I got in, "one day like this a year would see me right" just played, I cried so hard with joy. That moment, this song, means the world to me. 6 years on. Mum had dementia, but still remembers that day.
This is probably the most beautiful thing IV read,I don't really believe in God or that, but this is a sign, there is more to life to what we can see or touch, something devine..
For anyone interested, the talented lad spinning the sign is David Lemke, and this was his job with AArrow Advertising in L.A. Street sign spinning is a way for companies to advertise in areas where there are restrictions on putting up signboards.
You guys keep listening. I don’t suffer from depression, but on a shit day, whatever the weather or time of the year, this is my go to tune. Be safe guys
Yes!!! This song gave me such relief during a dark period 8 years ago. I'm recovering from 4 days of high anxiety (I wonder why), remembered this song, and here I am.
My uncle died aged 58 and he loved this song and we used to listento it regular. It was played at his funeral as his wish. He was like a father to me. See you again soon. Love you uncle ROY 🍺 xxx
This was the last song I listened to with my beautiful late Son it means the world to me but now cry every time I hear it . Sweet memories of a sweet boy ❤
That year at Glastonbury when they played this as the sun set in the background... iconic festival moment but also just a perfect moment of celebration and unity for humanity. Kudos, Elbow. You did that.
Summer 2011, Leeds Festival, UK. Sun was scorching, I was with my mates, we had beer aplenty with Elbow on the main stage belting this out and the easily 100,000 person crowd singing along. A memory that will live with with me forever.
I was at Reading that year, stood in the crowd with my mates, watching the sun slowly go down as this song was being performed remains one of my greatest memories. Everything was perfect.
My mother loved this song so we had it played at her funeral 29 Oct 2021. Made me smile through all the sorrow. RIP Mum. She was 85 by the way. Loved her music.
The only memory I have of my Dad before he died was sitting in the car and he playing this song. That was 11 years ago and there isn’t a day that I don’t you miss. Love you Dad🙏 Edit: Nine months late but thank you all for your lovely comments, reading through them have helped me a lot. People can be awful, but you have shown us that we can be truly inspiring. 🙏
Andy Haldane best keep them out of the school system then. Group/shared home schooling is best if you can arrange it, and keep them away from the TV. When they start asking for branded goods, give them the talk before they are lost forever.
What gets me about this song is how amazingly I associate it with waking up on an early summers morning with the sun glaring through the window. Knowing it'll be a beautiful day. Perhaps it's nostalgia, but this song truly captures that feeling.
Walked down the aisle to this when we got married at Pikes, Ibiza last year. Wake up to it every morning as it's my alarm clock. Reminds me of how incredibly lucky and blessed I am to walk this Earth and have my husband.
a good friend from the uk recommended this song to me, and wow. good music, good vibes... it's so awesome to see so many people sharing the love in the comments too! in the face of hate and anger towards one another, i'm glad there can be places where it's just pure camaraderie even between strangers
I think, this is the most perfect song. It is so beautiful, brings a tear to my eyes every time I hear it. Despite the crap life throws at us, our sadness our losses - life is beautiful and this song captures it perfectly. A masterpiece in song writing and composition - hearing it live oh my
I honestly didn't think much of this song when it was first released. But it was my friend Hazel Davies favourite song and was played at her funeral. Since then I listen to it all the time and now appreciate what a brilliant, uplifting song this is. One of the best records of the last 20 years. Thank you Elbow
This was one of my beautiful brother Stephen's favorite songs, we played it at his funeral two years ago. Seems like yesterday! We love and miss you always!! YKMF
I feel your loss Jeanne. It was played at my cousins funeral. Brings the tears. But great memories too. I've no idea who you are but we have this in common. Take care X
is about appreciating the beauty of the present moment, despite any struggles that one might have in life. The singer reflects on a indescribable feeling of contentment and joy, and wonders if it is love that has created this feeling. He reflects on how precious and fleeting this kind of moment is and wishes to be able to have a "one day like this" in each year. He emphasizes how powerful happiness and joy is and encourages the listener to open their curtains wide and let the present moment in. The song is a reminder to enjoy and appreciate beauty in life, no matter how small.
Life is what you make of it. Brilliant tune, brilliant lyrics, brilliant video. I've always seen holding a banner at intersection etc as a soul destroying job. This guy proves that with a live spirit and soul, any task can be made beautiful. My favourite feel good song.
Ikr!? The gentle waves of tones cradle you. Another great song that helped me tremendously is This Is The Sea by The Waterboys. Video with the ocean waves... perfection. Hope you enjoy.
This song never fails to inspire. The perfect mood lifter when you feel like nothing is going right for you. Turn up the volume, feel the sunshine on your face and allow this magnificent song to instantly energise and fill your weary soul with a welcome, rejuvenated zest for life. A heartfelt thank you to Elbow.
We have mostly all heard this anthem, but I imagine the lyrics have bypassed many. This northern powerhouse band are probably the best mostly undiscovered band of our time. Just listen to the words of true beauty , they certainly fill my eyes every time.
Only two days ago I came across this song. Then I looked for the official video and it’s this. This young man tells a story and it’s beautiful in its perfection and simplicity. The song and video together are mesmerising ❤
This song was played at my youngest brother’s 3rd birthday party when we had a slideshow with a load of his pictures on. This song brings back memories because we were told he was never going to talk and now, 4 years later, I’m able to have a full conversation with him. Edit: I have to make myself smile otherwise I would just cry at this song.
I was the groom, and I chose this as our wedding song nearly 12 years ago...I think I made the right choice. 12 yrs married to a beautiull wife, father to a beautiful daughter ,made a lot of wrong choices in my life, but this wasnt one of them😊 peace❤
OMG I'm literally crying I've had this song stuck in my head for a year and only just found out who sings it and the name of the song so I could listen to it hallelujah!!!!
Somewhere, amongst all the mundane and crap in life, there is beauty in the most ordinary things........and sometimes, the most ordinary days are the best.
Reading all everyone has to say - this beautiful song brings us together, we're human, we love, we hurt, we are beautiful! Thank you Elbow - thank you Guy Garvy!! Speak aloud, say your truth!
Try not to feel that is all is behind us. Now is the time we really choose between good and evil. That choice has never been plainer, when one man threatens and puts fear into millions. As Jesus taught us, we should pray for Putin to throw his curtains wide as well, and see the light. Before it is too late. We can do this...
David Lemki is the young lad. Works trying t sell Condos!!! What a waste of his talent!! Hope someone noticed him snapped him up and took him to a higher level and earn proper pay for beautiful skill he he has. Good luck David.
I've been rewinding it over and over (rewind so I'm not forced to watch opening commercial) and then... after a few times... you notice... as you're rewinding? The "most replayed" grey bar is... steady right across! LOL Lots of people rewinding (as they should)! Check it out, you'll see. Now THAT'S a sign of a very desired video!
My mother passed away on June 2, 2020, after a 7 year battle with dementia. She would have been 91 on June 23. I was blessed to have her living at home with my family and I, giving her constant love and attention during her transition. I played this song every day since March to entertain her and to keep my own sanity.
I woke one morning and this song was on the radio and thought this was the best day of my life turns out it was the worst, still the song is great, 👍👍🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
Anthem (noun) "a rousing or uplifting song identified with a particular group, body, or cause.". Your statement should read 'Anthem of the decade' or better still 'My anthem of the decade'.
Inspiring is connected with being filled with the Spirit. The one who inspires human genius into transcendence. It's the Holy Spirit in and with and behind and beyond the song that can allow us to hold on to hope. And of course He is the Spirit of love and truth. When we truly "see" the curtains have been thrown wide...
I listen to this song for the first time when I was in a bad time four years ago. Today, I listen to it and it makes me that I have hope for a brighter future.
Hi Gabriel 👋 You should also check out the song This is the Sea... by the band The Waterboys. Suggest you watch the video with the huge waves. I was stuck in a holding pattern, not sure where to step next. That song helped me out tremendously. I hope it does for you too. Better days ahead... better days ahead 👍
ThIs song has meant so much to so many people. It heals my soul reading stories. One day if we're lucky, we'll all find our wonky stick. It's an old saying, but means volumes!. Blessed Be all!. ✌
Played this on the morning that I officially retired. Was living /working in Beijing at the time... bags were packed, sun was shining, car was waiting to take me to airport.... I needed a song to get the journey/retirement life off to a good start.. 40 years of working Bye ! 5 years in polluted Beijing Bye... One day like this year will see me right. Yes One day like this indeed !
@Joshua Bakker Josh my man, you have to be English to understand👊😎 Guy is from Manchester U.K ( Bury to be exact) The North of England is a different world to the South (London etc.....) ....totally different people, different attitudes, different lives....and Guy is basically singing about a feeling every single male in the North of England has had in their lifetime.....me included😁👌....
Im from the south and proud. My late mother and her siblings and family were all lancastrian. There r good and bad everywhere we go. Back to this song, its simply 1 of the best songs ever in history. Im not embarrassed to admit that i sang it continously when my beloved s f c got promoted to the premier league in 2012. Im hoping to see elbow later this year, 3rd time lucky i hope, thanks to the pandemic!
When i had just moved to Los Angeles to take on my dreams, I was scared out of my mind. I had gotten a job at a gaming coming, EA, to supplement my living. they had free compilation CDs there and I took one. This song was on there. I listened to this song for months. Happy to have rediscovered it. Also such a hat tip to the fact that the video is shot in LA
Just found out in the comments today that the sign spinner is named Dave. He had this for his job (you can tell it's not his first time right? lol). Dave certainly put his heart into it... and we're all the more mesmerized for him doing so. 👏
I just found this thanks to my son Cameron, who shared it with me. What a great song. I thought the singer was Rufus Wainwright at first and I mean that as a high compliment. Great song indeed and a it is a beautiful day today and that is a rarity lately.
The song is beautiful & the video is tremendous. The young man has his headphones in, hes doing his thing. He hesitantly starts out, likely conscious of peoples reactions & as the video progresses, his confidence grows & he starts to showcase his talents. Tremendous
Our human talents and genius are raised in the direction of excellence and transcendence by the Holy Spirit. Helping us to see more, and be better disciples, and encourage others in love and truth and peace.
Played this song at Grans funeral a few months ago. She was 93 and this was her favourite song of last 30 years. Everytime it was on tv/radio we would put it on for her, or even just stick this video on tv. She had great taste!
I’m on the verge of tears reading this comment section as a 21 year old knowing they are people who suffer just like me and still get through it ( proud to be alive)
@@seankilburn7200 Most ppl who love this song come to YT somewhat infrequently; they're busy with everything elsewhere 🤗💜 - they mostly get their music live, & listen on cd or streaming. (YT?! Well, occasionally🙄🤭🙏🇬🇧)
Memories of driving from Aberdeen to Edinburgh at silly o’clock listening to radio 4’s desert island disques with special guest Philip Craven. Motivational story and this song was so inspirational for my son’s one 50 metre swim!
So brilliantly executed! I recently discovered this band and I absolutely love their music. This video is so brilliant and captures the mood of this song perfectly.
Greg Jackson, Boss of Octopus Energy, who I am a long standing customer of, chose this song among others, on BBCs, Desert Island Discs, so thats probably the one thing we share. A love of this song. Elbow were formed not far away from where I live in the North West of England.
