Each time I hear this beautiful creation I cry since losing my father. How you have moved the bleakness of the woodwinds into warmth with the piano and bass. This is such human beauty from all of you. Thank you.
I wish so many people who are in my life now - especially my kids - had the chance to meet my grandad, my hero. This encapsulates that beautifully. Not the first time I've shed a tear to an Elbow song. x
If you loved him which I am sure you did and he you then they will definitely know him because he is a part of you due to the feeling of love . Feel it and know it. It is true . Best wishes
As beautiful as Guy’s voice and the lyrics are the combination and melodic synchronisation of the two woodwind instruments through the song is musical genius.
@@bagwipes I'm only 20 and I've been a fan since 17! They are definitely an elegant band and turn off a lot of crazy teenagers I'd suspect. But Elbow are just amazing!
The roses are heavy With rain and for ages Veil after veil And the pictures are whispering The ones we belong to Caught in forever Startled and proud all laughing together And babe if you'd met him I picture you'd sit Blasting my wisdom With two-barrelled wit Then he'd steal you for dancing And you'd lend him your arms And I'd stooge for your laughing And you'd twirl in the chaos of charm The roses are heavy With rain and for ages Veil after veil And the pictures arе whispering He'd steal you for dancing And you'd lеnd him your arms And I'd stooge for your laughing And you'd twirl in a chaos of charm
What a great tune, simply sublime. Elbow get better and better, fantastic. Guy's voice is one of those rare voices that could sing you the telephone book and it would still be awesome.
Chills, absolute chills. Those first few piano notes put such a lump in my throat. So bittersweet, so beautiful. Thank you for the wonder you bring to the world, Elbow.
And the sublime arrangement of instruments. How the guitar and piano start at the same time. Almost colliding but then merging. And the reed section blowing this veil of sound carrying the song. Beautiful.
This song makes me think of my dad.... he never met my wife, or any of my children, but I know they would have loved him and I know he would have adored them.... and it breaks my heart every time, but I'm glad that it does...
Ah this is just beautiful and reminds me of last year with the Elbow Rooms where Fridays gained a new meaning and something to look fwd to. Gorgeous track and definitely inspires me to finish several projects to start another novel. Not often music moves one that much so kindest thanks
I love Elbow, there I said it and have since their first album came out. Guy Garvey has the perfect voice and the lyrics they write together just come together so well. Not many bands can reduce me to tears but these guys do.
At the risk of repeating myself….. beautiful song, wondrous lyrics, a song that will mean so much to so many and with Guy’s voice, it’s all just perfect.
I am late to the Elbowsphere. A British acquaintance of mine introduced me to their music last year and what a gift it has been. The comfort of their sound bringing light to a dark time of pandemic and isolation. This is another beauty. Thank you.
If you like this, I suggest you to listen to the album of the same name (The Seldom Seen Kid) especially songs "Friend of Ours" and "Starling". "Starling" can be unsettling at first but it's quite a beautiful track. Also, can't find enough solace in a song like Scattered Black and Whites!
I find it incredible that the quality of their music never wains. Album after album are full of divine music. they have set the bar so high than all I can say is in my opinion Elbow are the greatest band on the planet right now
This is just the most beautiful song. The woodwind harmonies>dissonance>resolution chords are so unusual! Then you add in the words and it is just spine-tingling awesome. Can't wait to hear the whole album!
I've been lucky enough to see them in concert twice... I too get lost in his beautiful voice, and the lyrics are mesmerising and intelligent.. there just so tight as a band.
Fantastic. This is precisely why Elbow is my favorite working band today. Well done everyone, jolly good show. Blessings, peace and love, from your loyal fan, Joe.
You guys have been my favorite band for the better part of a decade and I have never gotten sick of a single one of your songs! I think your incredible and get excited to tell people about you every chance I get!
Beautiful. If you've never seen Elbow perform live then I can highly recommend that you do. They are always excellent and Guy just has a magic touch with the audience.
To me, this is their most successful musical achievement to date. It says so much, yet with so few words. I feel emotional every time I hear it. Perhaps this new album, marks a new chapter in Elbows ongoing quest to create music that moves people. I have a suspicion this will last the ages.
I never thought there's be another song to share my personal top shelf alongside Lippy Kids but here it is. Both of them do it for me... I hear Guy can be found in pubs in 'town now and then. I have this notion that I'd love to buy him a pint and pass a few minutes to say thanks... the truth is I'd be a blubbering wreck so maybe not, eh ?
Electric picnic in ireland. I went to a pop up gig. Turned out to be elbow playing a small room. I went giddy with my friends. after 15 I was holding back tears/trying to hide them from my friends. His voice just makes bits of me.
I always recommend your music. When i heared you guys for first time i felt that i was in another world. You make me feel that everything is gonna be ok
