A slightly bent wooden tube with holes like a recorder - the zinc is rarely seen or heard today. Yet it was one of the most popular instruments from the 15th to well into the 17th century. The zinc player Cathérine Dörücü explains the instrument with its unique sound, which early on had the reputation of being closer to the human voice than any other instrument.
