I think Miyazaki doesn't like that people gatekeep mechanics like spirit ashes from being used, so he decided to crank the difficulty up to 20 and shower us with Gloveworts to entice us players to actually use spirit ash when we struggle.
@@kelex1298that and the fact that the DLC has a leveling system specifically for spirit ashes suggests that the bosses were really designed with the idea of you actively using them too
By that point you should already be good. I beat him first try with like 2 flasks to spare (granted I was level 175) but I entered the dlc at 150 which was the recommended level, and I never left except to the roundtable. So that was an appropriate level.
@@toastmaster914 bro you mad lucky I used all my flasks and I was on NG+3 because I forgot what character I was using, and yes, I did in fact get good 👍
@carterdaulton1175 ng+3? Brother are you insane? I'm out here getting 3 shot with 55 vigor and 25% resistance to everything before scadutree blessings. I'm not that good, or masochistic.
@@jakelink1482 no it's not? Honestly I would say that it's the second hardest since people won't make an op build right when they play the game n'either will they find anything overpowered in their first playthrough. Another reason why I think that is because people say you can make an op build quickly but you can also make op build quickly on every other soulsborne game except sekiro, so that reasoning of saying Elden ring is the easiest from that is pretty dumb. You can leave a boss if you're having a difficult time go loot other places and come back to the boss when you feel ready, same for other soulsborne games, if you don't feel ready go farm souls, go loot places you haven't looted yet. 3rd reason why I think that is because the bosses are harder depending which soulsborne order/first game you played, if it's your first game bosses will be even harder, if you played other soulsborne, bosses will still be hard because basically every boss has delayed attacks which will make them harder to even dodge for some people. So with that I'd like to know why you put it as the easiest soulsborne. Also I just thought of another reason why the game is the second or even the hardest soulsborne and it's because of the dlc (I'm not complaining about the difficulty either). Before you ask if I played any soulsborne, I beat every soulsborne and did most bosses in 1-3 attempts.

@@mariolukas584I think in a game so vast and expansive in terms of combat viability it would be a shame if they never pushed you to try other things ngl. That’s part of the challenge
Yes you can make any boss baby easy mode with tank, status, summon or just using night comet. But at that point there's no challenge to overcome. Super strong builds can be fun but not for a first playthrough imo. This may be coming from a dude with 3.7k hours in the game pure melee w/faith buffs makes each boss a magical experience. Learning how to dodge each move, safe and unsafe dmg windows, going and doing some exploring to get stronger, coming back finding the boss much easier than they were yesterday and finally overcoming great adversity is what makes these game so... SO damn good. And after that using stronger status or magic builds to bully bosses is truly sweet revenge. "Not so tough now are ya ass wipe!!!!!" That's just my views on things.
I think the age of "Git Gud" and any language it comes from is directly proportional to how old the FromSoftware Souls-like games are. Although at least according to some RU-vid videos, these games are technically not hard at all because they don't require any skill if you learn enemy attack patterns.
@@EdoTimor . I think the explanation already came but I have not tested it yet. The English translation of Git Gud is "learn enemy attack patterns, dodge roll, and don't be held back by a fear of losing your souls or blood echoes". And that's the explanation. I'll have to test it next time I'm able to play Bloodborne.
As someone who was stuck on rellana for 200+ attempts some things were said at her but hey nobody in my house plays souls games and I don’t typically get”throw the controller” rage so I’d be good

To be fair, even people who are well known professionals got stuck at some point before beating the dlc. It is genuinely really hard, and that's the best part of it!
Can’t believe people have been told for YEARS to git gud and when they finally have the chance to say it to other people they make a 4 paragraph long Reddit post and leave a bad review, some people were never destined to git gud
Shadow of the Erdtree feels like Elden Ring when it released, because most people don't have the Movesets down and our builds aren't good for cheese anymore
Nan real reason is that if you look at your stats. They are capped for the entire DLC and don’t change until you leave the DLC. The fragments up your stats by 5 percent every time you use them. So unless you look for all the fragments you’re going to have a problem. Right now with the fragments I have I don’t have to worry about boss attacks mostly because I at 70 of my base stats
@@RealityBased Is it tedious? If one puts in the effort to acquire a diverse arsenal of reliable weapons that they can modify alongside their stat points, or one simply saved the resources to upgrade more weapons, it wouldn't strike me as all that cumbersome
@@RealityBasedtedious? Ds3 was way worse, and bloodbrkne you cant even change builds/stats once you do them. Should be happy how easy it is I’m Elden ring
I completed SotE yesterday. Final boss took me 4 hours to learn and finally beat. An epic boss fight and probably one of my favourite ‘Hell yeah’ moments in 42 years of gaming.
Its still got ways to overcome that just like the base games open world looting- gathering as another comment called them "skibidi fragments", not to mention the fact theres so many new weapons, talismans, and ashes of wars to make new playstyles or upgrade yours, imho the difficulty is perfect and theres ways to overcome it if they think its too hard, the new playstyles like the fists having actually hand to hand is fucking amazing, messmers spear feels badass asf, talismans are awesome additions, armor is drippy, its most definitely not casual filter no matter how you look at it, and its partially a matter of skill, but i think its mainly hardheaded people who struggle but dont want to read or understand how the game works(like scadutree fragments being essential a difficulty setting), and dont feel like exploring but fight the same base over and over again with the same gear and same strategy. You either experiment and overcome, prepare and overcome, or both.
@@EonsEternity I do feel early on in the DLC you get hit by a wall of "holy, this shit is hard", especially with messmer soldiers two shotting you, then you get adjusted to playing safer, find scoobidoo fragments, and just get used to the new timings. starwman argument. the fragments both ruin bosses you are "underleveled" to fight and make it far to easy to be "overleveled". its a bad system taken from vinilla destiny 1 to obscure the fact the DLC just isnt very well balanced.
I’m going through a remembrance cleanup(got to the final boss not realizing he’s the final boss) and I got mitra then it’s bayle and man have I heard horror stories….im excited to live through them
For Messmer, just stay close to him. That’s really it. That one combo he keeps doing up close usually ends with a sweep, so only attack AFTER that sweep. His BRGRRVLL spin across the entire arena and flurry-stab will end in an impalement, so be ready for that. Just stay close to him before he does the flurry-stab and you’ll be fine. I’m gonna be honest it’s only hard because people are making it hard. Get the buffs that they literally put into the game to make it easier, grab a mimic tear and it actually isn’t so hard.
Yep. Pretty much always the way with Soulslike games. The games aren't actually that difficult if you use what the game gives you. But for whatever reason there is a stigma with using things that make the game less frustrating, and too many people have bought into it. It started off with people trash talking people that used magic or a shield in Demon Souls, and not it's devolved into pure insanity with the only proper way to play the game seemingly being doing something like a naked run with a 2 handed weapon only.
@@Xynth22 I think part of the issue is the lack of learning that comes from the easier options. Takes a lot of the Souls experience out of the game, but that’s okay for someone who simply wants to beat the game. Not everyone needs to learn it. But it’s when the people who used the cheesy strategies try to give advice to other people that it becomes a problem. Just spam lion’s claw, just use Mohg’s Spear, just use… etc. etc. That doesn’t apply to every build, it may have worked for their playthrough, but someone looking for advice needs something consistent that does not require them to change their build. How do I dodge the final DLC boss’ rock attack (not gonna spoil the boss)? Sure you could try bloodhound step, Raptors, tank it with endure, or light roll. But that sacrifices an entire Weapon Art or defenses. What you can do is run laterally and jump as it gets close to you. That can work for every build. So everyone can beat the game their own way, just don’t assume it’s what’s best for everyone. If you’re gonna give strategic advice, make sure it can apply to most builds.
People when you use Mimic Tear in Elden Ring: Wow what a scrub git gud. People when you dont use Mimic Tear in the DLC of Elden Ring: Wow what a scrub git gud and use Mimic Tear.
While that is true that there are alot of ways to make it easier and the hardness mainly comes from people not farming the shadowtree blessings using mimic tear or summons for alot of people just makes the game simply not fun

Messmer took me 3 tries... Would've been two but Messmer was way too low when I got him to second phase (which I wanted to see more of) so I got myself killed
I agree with this sentiment for every single boss in the dlc… aside from the final boss. The visual effects are so bright and massive that not only does it blind me, it makes my game run at 20 fps. the way I see most players able to consistently beat this boss is with a gimmicky turtle poke build with a rapier and a greatshield. If your boss is so poorly designed that the best solution isn’t to “get gud,” but rather completely change your build to something that’s incredibly boring, it’s not a good boss, it’s just difficult for the sake of being difficult.
I didn't have much trouble with any bosses besides the final boss. I spent about 5 hours trying to unga bunga him to death before I finally gave up and poked him from behind a shield
@@travisacton2121Being difficult for the sake of being difficult is completely different than just being plain difficult. The final boss of the DLC is excessive, over the top, and plain downright unfair sometimes. A boss in a game all about exploring your build and finding what works best for you, should not be restricted in such a way that the ONLY way to kill it is with a VERY specific type of build. Fuck that noise.
you aren't even playing a soulsgame with that set up. you're just cheesing it. though it is helpful if you wanna rush the game. not worth the experience though if you ask me.
Every single boss can be defeated with this one easy trick: Any spirit summon (I prefer mimic tear or Tiche), and a decently optimized Bolt of Gransax build to yeet the spear. Feels dirty, but works. Every. Time.
You got to collect the new tree fragment things from the crosses. Also it’s end game content so have an endgame level character. I think the main problem is that people ether took their end games saves into new game plus and thus are fighting even tougher enemy’s or they just aren’t collecting the fragments that affect your damage and resistance in the dlc zone.

The final boss had me adjusting my build and using all kinds of defense buffs way more than any other boss in the game. I even used the aromatic that gives significant damage negation for a single hit, which I just never really felt like I needed until now. It was ridiculously satisfying when I finally made that last hit!
I think another problem is that too many people are picking up their old playthroughs and have the stats and gear to theoretically beat the DLC but they've forgotten the techniques to actually play at that level
It may be very hard, the most rewarding part about the Fromsoft bosses is that no matter how unforgiving the bosses are, you will feel amazing by over coming the impossible

Took me a whole day to beat messmer on new game +6 but only 2 tries on new game +7. I swear beating him and then also getting rellana down on the first try gave me an adrenaline boost
Ok here’s a fair criticism of the DLC… finding scadutree fragments is boring asf and it’s kind of a shame that it’s the strongest leveling system available
Small tip for those running faith/intelligence builds, the sorcery "impenetrable thorns" scales with faith, and procs bleed like nobodies business. It is actually quite close to Messmer's boss room. I recommend using the prince of death staff or matron staff or albinauric staff, as high as you can upgrade it. Pop blessing if the erdtree just before you enter the boss door. This spell was my only means used to fight and beat both Messmer and Bayle (plus I helped shred my friend's Rellana with it).
I heard that you collect special items that boosts your damage and protection by large numbers. The only thing is that you need to explore the map to find them - which is actually pretty cool.
Too many times have i lost all runes in these shadowed lands. From now on, i care only for golden runes and shadow realm runes that will never be lost upon death. Should i gain enough runes in passing then so be it. Otherwise i care not.
As someone who has played, beaten, and loves every Souls game, the primary issue is that the jump in enemy power from the end of the base game to the DLC is far more extreme than the power difference between base game areas. This was done to encourage exploration to find the Scadutree Fragments, which effectively serve to replace leveling up as the source of player power. HOWEVER, in order to reach a level of player power that matches the increased power of the enemies, you need to comb the entire starting every for every single one before you're even at the same power level as the first optional boss enemy. So the problems was that they introduced a brand new leveling system alongside a much more extreme jump in enemy power, both going against the design of the base game. Clearly FromSoft agreed, since they rebalanced the Scadutree Fragments to frontload the power gains early on.
The final boss of the DLC was the first time I'd ever felt the need to actually strategize, and I still decided to do multiplayer summons. On my winning attempt one of the two guys I summoned died immediately, so it was up to my heavy greatsword build and a guy with a greatshield and some sort of stabby weapon to take them down. I finally put on appropriate armour and changed to relevant talismans, while being Scadutree blessing 15. It's definitely a difficult DLC, though I wouldn't say the rest of it is any harder than the base game. Final boss is insane.
The only Soulsborne that’s hard is Sekiro to be honest just because it has no leniency, you either get good or die. The others are more diverse, especially Elden Ring, and even if you use a pure melee build it’s still easy once you play for like 20 hours total. The DLC wasn’t even all that hard to be honest, only hard things I found were Messmer (I was washed) and Pre nerf PCR bc I couldn’t ever figure out how to read him properly until many many attempts later. Basically, every Soulsborne is easy (except Sekiro) it just takes practice, nothing is impossible (except Isshin hitless 0 damage buffs 0 vitality 0 weapon arts no parrying), you’ll eventually prevail with enough trial and error.
