Elderbrook & Rudimental - Something About You (Official Video) 

The Men's suicide prevention hotline and programs needs to use/show this song and video in their campaigns. As a struggling man with depression and anxiety, this spoke to me on another level. Hands down one of the most incredible music videos I've ever seen.

This is, without a doubt, the most powerful music video advocating mental health in men I have ever watched.

They all know the dance because they all know the sadness and pain. They don't need to practice the dance because they already know it instinctively. It's a really powerful music video

it perfectly describes how men are conditioned to bottle up their feelings and deal with things like depression and addiction on their own. When each man in the video stands up, the first thing he does is a strong-man pose, which to me is a metaphor for the image most men feel they have to project - strength, confidence, invulnerability - and then, slowly, they start to warm up to lowering their armor to dance, which is a metaphor for sharing their feelings with the other men. Once all of them are dancing, you start to see them become a little more confident and even a couple small smiles on their faces because they realize they're not alone, there is hope, and that things can get better. ~KyleEcoyote

My brother passed away 3-weeks ago, caused by his addiction to alcohol. I had introduced him to Elderbrook and Rudimental as a way to remain positive and to never give up. John was 55-years old and had everything to live for. I will miss him forever.

I love the message of this video. Society burdens men with a false expectation of masculinity. Let the burdens slip from our shoulders, be yourself and lets dance in our masculinity. Strong and vulnerable!

Keep fighting boys. You’re not weak for feeling depressed or even suicidal. You’re recognising you want more from life and you’re capable of it. Let’s get it

As a father of boys - I revisit this video from time to time to remember the importance of men's mental health. Great work Elderbrook - I think you have helped a lot of people here.

First, and only music video that's ever made me tear up. Every part of this video strikes a chord for me. 0:00 - 0:08 : Reluctance is real. Took me 5 years to finally realize that I needed help, and that "manning up" wasn't going to solve anything. Taking that initial walk through the door is basically an admittance that you're vulnerable, and it takes a lot considering how you're at odds with your pride. 0:18 - 0:30 : No one wants to talk about it - especially those struggling with mental health. It's not exactly something easy to bring up to friends, or family. There's times you feel no one will care, there's times you think no one will relate, there's times you feel you'd be a burden to everyone, there's times you feel that people would look down on you. It's not like you can interject mid-conversation with friends "Oh yeah, I'm depressed, and I dread existence at any capacity." Being someone that has the reputation of trying to make everyone laugh all the time, it feels selfish to jeopardize the influence you have on your friends. 0:50 - 1:00 : "I'm a man, I'm strong"... Dancing is an expressive art. I think the flexing gesture coupled with the dancing says "I'm a man, I'm strong, and that should not hold me back from being expressive, or emotional." Toxic masculinity is garbage, and I think it's the source of a lot of the mental health issues amongst men today. It's instilled into our minds, and I feel like there's an obligation to fight it for the betterment of everyone else. 1:20 - 1:50: There's no feeling like meeting someone going through similar struggles - the first guy to say "you're not alone, man." 1:50 - 3:00: Reluctance again with joining in. Again, It takes a lot out of you to take that first step, but it's easier when you're not the only one. The foundation of any camaraderie is struggle. 3:00 - 3:20 : Fuck this "macho-alpha-masculinity-can't-be-emotional-around-other-dudes-bullshit" mentality man, I just need a damn shoulder to cry on. Gender, sexuality is irrelevant at this point - it's human to human, soul to soul, struggle to struggle. Being able to ditch that stigma feels liberating. 3:20 - 3:50 : Instant change in tone, body language, facial expressions, etc. Sometimes all it takes is reassurance, a spark of support, or a shared moment to help someone push through another day. 3:50 - 4:06 : Going back to our lives like nothing happened. Edit: So happy to see that this has created a positive effect on many people. Granted, I'm not a scholarly art interpreter or anything - just wanted to share my personal connection to the video, and it's amazing how many people relate!

I love the casting of the video. They chose people of all ages, races and physical condition. How each one of them joins the dance it is a great metaphor as to how looking for help is ok, no matter who you are. What an excellent video

There’s something about this video that gives me goosebumps every time. It’s crazy that a video of guys portraying strength then letting their guards down and learning to be vulnerable is enough to get me teary-eyed

I can’t tell you how hard this song hit me. When he asks Michael to share with group, he begins. His words are visualized by dance. The rest of the group know the dance moves because they lived the same suffering that Michael has. They dance close together because their life depends on it. I was brought to tears while watching this because it really shows that group therapy works. We’ve been there and so much I is understood between each other that is unspoken. The choreography is absolutely perfect. Top 5 music videos of all time for me.

I just by chanced found this video- I have watched it 5 times and cry every single time. I deal with depression and have lost friends to addiction- this video speaks to me on so many levels- I can't thank you enough for this.

I'm sober 2 years this month. This works on so many levels. The simple set, catchy music, angst in the first guy's eyes (especially), then the reluctant "tough" image they are all exhibiting slowly accepting the "reality" (in this case doing the dance). It goes to a whole new powerful level when these straight guys break out into couples, just craving for the comfort of the other drunk/addict's support and love. So powerful.

The part that struck me the most is the steps of the first guy. His foot work is so light and timid. Amazing expression of nervousness.

Why did this bring me to tears? The love? The intimacy? The brotherhood? What a great representation of what men can be and do for each other. I'm so glad my friend sent me a link to this video. BRAVO!

I am currently writing a paper on the societal effect on Men's Mental Health. When being told we can use a song as a source this immediately came to mind. I'm so excited to share this with more people who may have never seen it or heard it. I love all the messages and interpretations in the comments! Probably one of the most emotional music videos I've ever seen. The way he starts dancing, unsure and not in full swing. When he stops he's worried if he should've done it (open up) and how others would react. There's a reassurance when the second guy joins. At 1:50 another guy sees them and brings the courage to do the same, another sees him and do the same, and their movements getting more expressive and sharper. The amount of detail I keep finding each time I rewatch is amazing.

I don't really comment on videos and I've been keeping my anxiety and depression a secret for several years now, but this video and comments made me tear up a bit. I'm a 30 year old male who still struggles with stress, anxiety, and depression and there are times where I feel like I'm worthless and no one cares about me, but I just somehow find a way to keep fighting and stay alive. Music like this has helped me tremendously as well as surrounding myself with family and those with those who really care about me. I just want to thank the makers of this video for putting a smile on my face and giving me hope.

I'm a psychologist and I run therapy groups and I also have been in them as a client, this video makes me cry - it's a lovely song but it's elevated to something so meaningful by the physical performances here.

Seeing this video so late after its release. I'm a father to two beautiful young kiddos. I'm a teacher, a man, a father, a veteran, a child who grew up in a family where males weren't the best role model for me, all the while the women in the family kept the family going and surviving. It's hard knowing what is masculine and the tipping point for toxicity when there's so much mixed information from men and women alike.. I personally struggle with this coupled with ADHD and depression. This video really gave me another perspective. Beautiful video.

This song came out 3 years ago. Exactly when I discovered Elderbrook. I instantly fell in love with your music. Each of my favorite song perfectly describes how I feel. The lyrics of this song in particular is so powerful to me.... I lost my job overseas because of the pandemic and fell into substance abuse. I blew through my savings and lost so much of weight. I didn’t notice how depressed I was. I recently got back to listening to your music and I’m clean and healthy again ❤ Thank You for your amazing music!

My breath literally caught when they started to Waltz with their heads on each others shoulders. Beautiful. We need to normalize affection between men just the same as we normalize affection between women.

What I love most about this video is their facial expressions. The subtle changes in their demeanor as they start to realize that they're not the only ones that feel that way, that they're not alone in their suffering; and the level of confidence that reassurance builds is perfectly conveyed through that. And believe it or not, just watching that actually cleared the stress that I'm currently facing. Bravo to the director, the actors, the artists, and anyone else involved in the project - for putting in the time and effort into making a video that can transcend its message beyond our computer/phone screen.

The song is awesome! But I also want to highlight how brilliant the acting, camera/editing and directing is. A masterstroke on all levels! A great example of when capable, empathetic people work together.

It’s poetic how reluctant they were to join the dance they wanted so badly to be a part of, and how it just took one for them to discover the courage they had all along. This was a powerful anthem heard loud and clear.

Male depression is one thing that society has ignored

I first heard Elderbrook - Woman then found this track… I’m 33, been on and off drugs and alcohol since age 17… started my journey of sobriety November 6, 2022….dancing and exercise help so much. Also knowing that you aren’t alone, that’s a huge help. I’m in my apartment drinking coffee this morning after a sleepless night of insomnia… This song came on and i started dancing and started crying so hard. I think that’s a big emotional release of past trauma. Whoever you are, whatever you are going through, never be afraid to show your release your emotion and to let things flow. You aren’t alone. I got you. We got you.

The feels in this song for me... the pure hurt on his face, they are all there for heartache and pain. They all come together as one to forget there pain and find comfort in not being alone and exposed. Men need to do this for eachother ❤

I love how Rudimental clips are all about the motivation of figuring things out and standing up.

Men are not easy to open up to each other. But once someone started, they're feeling like they are on the same boat, and then feeling awkward again after let it all out.

This Video is Absolutely Beautiful... As brothers, we need to get used to the idea that we have brothers out there that need our help... even though we cannot help ourselves because healing another heals Ourselves.

I heard this song on the radio the other day. I could only vaguely remember “there’s something about you, Keeping me sober” but I can just relate to that so much. I have a boyfriend that’s kept me six months clean so far. I’m feeling really emotional right now so if you took the time to read this, thank you.

I'm 6 months sober and just heard this the other day but this song is every bit as powerful, compelling and touching now as it would've been then. This truly explores the intricacies of men having mental health problems. The anxiety that comes from trying to be vulnerable. This is an amazing piece of work. You've got a lifelong fan in me.

I've watched this video 50 times and I've cried 50 times.

My brother in law loved this song and this video. A year ago he had an awful car crash and he survived by miracle. However, he is now permanently disable and blind. Every time I listen to this song and watch this video it reminds me of him in his glorious days and gives me shivers and tears. I would pay gold to have him watch this video again and do the dance with me.

The message, emotion, and sentiment captured by this is spot on. This should be shown to all those in need. The beauty of a strong man being vulnerable and supportive of other men is the real heartfelt message I find so uplifting. The main character almost gave up. Good thing he didn’t because he had no idea how many he would inspire. Never forget.. you can be someone’s reason not to give up!

Absolute chills when they all stood at the end , head held high knowing there not alone

I have struggled with Ptsd, anxiety, depression and panic attacks for nearly 40 years and this video has inspired me so much. The next time I have anxiety or a panic attack I will think to stop, salute and dance my way through it. This video is so incredibly touching and cast perfectly.

what hit me was, when he had the courage to "speak up", he made this facial expression and swallowed... that was beautiful! it reminded me of a quote that I read "The fact that we can instantly recognize a song we haven’t heard in years, but struggle to remember what we had for lunch yesterday, shows how deeply music is ingrained in our minds and emotions"

This signifies such a strong union to me. Whenever we are going through stuff we think we're alone but we're not. This song is helping me right now. Man or woman we all need to stand together. My teenage years were a dark place for me because I was "being a man" and hid all the emotions from my Dad's death. It took me 11 years of pain until I realised to let go of my emotions and deal with them. Men have emotions too and we should stand together and be vulnerable. I was just looking for new cardio music why am I crying ??

The way Michael opens up, which is clearly a struggle for him, being a strong character, with the pressures of being strong constantly and finally able to let open his true, honest feelings even though nobody else wants to step forward. And feeling so alone, and foolish for about 3 seconds after him opening up until somebody else steps up and joins him to say "you know what, you're not alone, i feel the same way". That right there chokes me up. I'm not suffering from mental health, but i do suffer from "man syndrome". Whenever i see another man cry, ask for help, look like they need guidance etc. It literally makes me swell up and get a lump in my throat. I hope to god i never need this sort of therapy, or go down a path that leads me to feeling so alone, so cornered, so alone. But if i do, i know it'll be easier this day more than ever before, because us men NEED to support each other. Its OKAY to be in a state of mind thats NOT OKAY. we can get our help, we can support one another, we can say "im not okay". It does not make you weak. It makes you STRONG. If anybody needs a friend, a outlet, or straight up someone who just needs to be written to about anything. Im here for you my brothers. Now and always
