"Elderly Church Member Threatens To Call Police On Public Photographer"

I was in the city of Irvine Ca. recently documenting outside Saint John Neumann Catholic Church just before the 830 a.m Sunday service on Mothers Day. When I arrived on scene, I took notice of an Irvine police vehicle which seemed to already be patrolling the area . When they took notice of me, they circled back and entered the church parking lot. Soon after I began recording , i was approached by an elderly member from this congregating, forcefully asking me to stop recording or he would call police . He claimed my recording was making parents uncomfortable. I explained to him I had the same right to be where I was as he did (MY freedom of Press & his Freedom of Religion) Police were still called to calm their nerves. As I mentioned in the video, some people feel more comfortable hearing it from someone with a badge & gun...To each their own.

In order to have that viewpoint one must make the erroneous and criminal assumption that money someone makes FIRST belongs to the public at large and not the entity making the money. That is criminal insanity. That my neighbors DON'T get to take money I make doesn't mean they are paying my expenses.

It’s so ironic and hypocritical to see different religions out in the streets preaching or even approaching people to join their religious organization which to me is harassment but when an individual is simply filming in a public area minding their own business and not bothering anyone they get attacked and treated like a criminal. There are so many double standards that seem to enable these religious organizations to literally abuse their first amendment rights.

One thing I noticed, the gentlemen (and I use that term loosely) kept saying that parents were concerned about their children being videotaped!! Yet I never saw him talking to any parents with children!! I didn't see any parents with children waiting by the door to see whether or not he was successful at trying to get this photographer to stop filming so I'm guessing that his story was BULLSHIT!!! I love it when the priest came out and told him to leave the photographer alone!!!

Terrible example of a Good Catholic. I appreciate these videos. I'm a Christian and quit going to Church years ago because of all the hate filled angry hypocritical so called Christians. The busybody, whose favorite line is "the parents have expressed concern", had his own concerns (with cameras, Muslims, Protestants and masks). He said, of the parents he'd elected himself to represent, "They don't want their kids filmed!" Well then, old man, you might want to ask the parents why they have their kids out in public where there are cameras everywhere. I was so impressed by that peace-loving priest, and so thrilled that his intervention resulted in the hateful old man retreating with his tail between his legs.

Interesting how the cop rejected the document BEFORE he had any indication about the content of the document. Although I agree that this, arbitrary summary of photography laws may be accurate, I think it is only appropriate for a cop to rely on legal guidance from his City Attorney's office. But, at the time the cop rejected the document, he had no facts about the content. For all he knew, it might have a signed confession to some dastardly crime.

A lawsuit under the Bane Act is a civil claim against someone who has attempted or managed to interfere with someone's civil rights (as guaranteed by state and federal law in the United States) through any act or acts of coercion, violence, threats of violence, or intimidation, including victims of hate crime violence. The rights protected under the Bane Act are inclusive of the right to vote, speak, bear arms, etc. So blocking someone's camera on purpose is denying them their right to take video of anything they can see with their eyes.

Those same kids are filmed going to school, inside school, and this church probably has CCTV cameras filming them. You literally can't walk 20 Yards down the street without being filmed.
