The only long campaign you'll need: - Goal: Defeat *all* bosses 1 time. - When you lose a character, you cannot pick it again (vs any of the subsequent games (it ded)) It's a massive battle royal between all the investigators and elder ones. Last team standing wins.
One time I was in the process of developing a fan-made expansion called 'Crashing Tides of Dagon,' but it was scrapped because I'm not artsy enough to make the drawings and stuff necessary in photoshop. It would've been a "big box" expansion with a mini-map of the eastern United States featuring some really cool locations such as: Chicago - Gain clues (by investigating crop circles or whatever) New York - Acquire assets (or probably resources now that they've debuted in this expansion) Innsmouth - Advance the active mystery but each turn your character gets an eldritch token raising their suspicion level which would eventually get them detained Deep-sea monolith - Acquire artifacts, but it's part if the reckoning so if anyone is on it when the reckoning hits, Dagon shows up and they lose a bunch of sanity. It's the monolith in the middle of the Atlantic where Dagon comes to feed in Lovecraft's story of the same name Bermuda triangle - Transports you to another space, sometimes randomly, sometimes optionally, sometimes you get to choose, etc. New Orleans - Acquire voodoo spells which are a new type of spell that are powerful, but always have consequences for the player. There were also new characters like a time-traveler, a ninja, and a rich Italian guy. I had a lot of fun making it, so it's a shame it never came to be. I also had a Nyarlathotep expansion in mind where one player would play as Nyarlathotep against everyone else, but I put less effort into it for the same reason as the first one :/
I'm GM for the tabletop rpg campaign right now! The characters are halfway through (they are just leaving Egypt) and are already more or less broken down mentally ☺ two of them are also occultists and disciples of dark gods which is basically the only reson they have accomplished anything! Good stuff.

could it be because you shop too much and waste turns? It seems a lot easier after the later expansions. They help it along and some will say complete this mystery.
My advice is get one player with high lore and will to camp out on Arkham for most of the game so they can get spells. Also give that player any and all relics you find that will benefit their spellcasting ability. Once that player gets intervention, plumb the void, blessing of Isis etc it's game set and match because your group basically can't be harmed.
I know it's cheating but I play all games with doom set at 20 to start. It makes things easier but not so that you feel the victory is worthless and I still have to play hard to win 😉
This really feels like a last expansion type box. I feel like i would not tell someone to buy this unless they already had most of the other expansions or all of them. Some of this box is worthless to you unless you own everything else. Not getting a board in a big box feels really really bad.
Nah. This kind of expansion is a perfect finish. No new board because there are enough new boards, and a ton of cards to tie all the previous expansions together. Yeah, it's the last one you are supposed to get. And it serves that function perfectly.
I've been holding off on buying this since I first saw this review. In my view, a big box with no map is just not right. I love Eldritch Horror, and Nyarlathotep seems like a great addition to the game. But no map, and only one creature to fight? Why wasn't this in a smaller box? I've nearly pushed the "buy" button twice on this, but each time I just can't. I simply can't justify paying $50 for this.
Because it's too big for a small box and if they had made another box size, chances are you would have complained anyway because it doesn't fit the other sizes. it's nice that eventually, this box fits the rest of the series perfectly. No board simply because everything in the Masks of N campaign happens in the actual world map. Why invent a new map just for the sake of it if the campaign totally works on the standard map? Getting stuff just for the sake of it seems weird. And the price is not about the amount of "stuff". The price includes the amount of work behind the huge campaign (answering to one who commented on your comment). I never got this complains about the price related to the content weight of a game. As if it's only about the materials used. If there is a lot of work behind the gameplay, it's just as valuable. I also hate when companies overcharge and that's something FFG like to do in general. But here, I totally get why this is a big box with a big box price. The content is worth it. My 2 cents.
I'm just glad this last (latest) expansion is in a big box. Just finished sleeving and putting tokens in coin capsules of all the Eldritch Horror game and expansions - and it fills the 5 big boxes.
The thing Iw as most excited about was the potential of a cool campaign. When I heard it was a 6-game series that you were supposed to restart after losing a game, I was extremely disappointed. And upon seeing one sheet of paper containing all the "campaign" rules, this is a bust for me.
Not with that attitude... But no seriously, the odds are so stacked against you. All it takes is one bad dice roll and it can be a downward spiral from there
4:26 Not sure Tom knows what the word "backstory" means. Or maybe it's the developers who have called them that (I don't own the game). Either way, these cards don't have a backstory.
The personal missions existed in the "old" Arkham Horror board game already - I think Innsmouth introduced them. The campaign mode seems weak as well. The Arkham expansions were so much better because they introduced new rules. Yes, that meant to remember more rules but the game felt fresh again with every new expansions. In Eldritch they copied the small things from the Arkham expansions (personal stories here), contracts (from Dunwich) etc. without bringing bigger stuff. And I think that is why Team is feeling Eldritch fatigue.
I think that a rework on AH would be great. Better desing, better rules... I would love the world wide adventure with EH and the slow explroation at the city with the AH.
I have all the small expansions and i feel i have enough... maybe i will pick under the pyramids or dreamlands some time in the future if i feel that i have seen enough. But i guess it’s time to go for the Mansions of Madness road even though i don’t have a tablet.
I helps I think. And ofc more than 2 players. This game is about solo or a bigger group. The app teh problem, it's so good and for example if you play on a TV it seems like the board and tokens lost their funktion...

The expansion really is a bit disappointing. Of course I get it for characters, the character cards (they are cool, they should've done more in that direction and I agree the bad stuff may have been a bit unnecessary but why not include more quests?), the enemies and more cards (I mean the location cards of course, not conditions). But the campaign is pretty much a joke. Thanks for the review, very insightful!
Yes, Forsaken Lore. And the Cities in Ruin highly recommended. I have these three. My little background story: The world is about to collapse. Cities are destroyed. You need to stop the chaos! You must to travel to the last frontier and face the frozen world.
After FS and MoM It did come down to either CoR or Signs of Carcosa, I went with the latter because...King in Yellow, and also the Urchin is one of the greatest investigators imo. If I pick up another it will most likely be CoR but I'm having a lot of fun with the 3 I have now. I do think having one big box expansion and 2 small box is probably best for Eldritch horror, so far it all fits in the original box and there is a lot of variances with very minimal bloat, I'm afraid of picking up another just because I'm not sure if my asset deck can handle it!
I have all expansions, and problem is: adding new boards is nice and fun but you can only use them with a specific elder (in principal you can use all of them at once but gates will spawn everywhere and it'll be a mess). Forsaken Lore is great since it adds only cards and basically improves the core game (which is really necessary) Mystic Ruins....is...let's say ok. Nothing special. The new mystic ruins encounters are actually really disappointing. Under the Pyramids and the Dreamlands are really great, both big box expansions and they really manage to give you an intense gaming atmosphere.
Pretty much bang-on review. Overall this expansion is really weak and overpriced. I loved most of the other ones but this one really crapped the bed. Don't need Resources (already have LOTS of mechanics to deal with that kind of thing and it weakens the game PLUS makes half the new investigators unuseable or needing new abilities), for example. Campaign rules are written as an afterthought and the few good things (Corruption, some Characters) are vastly outweighed by the excess of crap.
Yeah... they will claim that this is the last expansion and then FFG would start another project to get some money from Cthulhu franchise - "Terraforming R'lyeh" ;D
Is there any final hint (at least for now) which are the essential expansions that one would really need? Getting into trouble to keep up with the pace of created output ...
Forsaken lore unless you dont mind repeating cards enough that its noticeable(also adds focus). Strange remnants, adds ancient ruins and has a really cool bad guy. Cities in ruins, really makes the game feel more in your face and really emphasizes the stakes of the game. Disasters are brutal and can really change any kind of strategy you have. After that everything else is kind of personal preference, I would decide based on what flavor you like or on what bad guys you want to fight. I will say of them the dream lands feels like it gives you the most compelling reasons to go to the dream lands outside of the specific bad guy who uses it.
I definitely agree with Forsaken lore (the base version only has 4 mysteries per elder one and you need to complete 3 so without FS you will be running into a lot of the same territory. I would also highly recommend getting at least one sideboard set (Mountains of Madness, Under the Pyramids, or Dreamlands) I prefer Mountains of Madness but really it's up to personal choice. I haven't tried Cities in Ruin yet, but it does seem really interesting, I went with signs of Carcosa because....I needed to be able to go up against the King in Yellow (even though I have yet to actually be able to beat him)
If you really like hauster its worth getting that expansion. Pretty sure this is the last expansion, 16 bad guys and like 50 investors means you will never run put of content

IMO, I like most small boxes first then the big boxes with themes you like. 1. Forsaken Lore (really useful - almost essential - for replay factor). 2. Cities in Ruin (just a fabulous expansion with the Destruction mechanic). 3. Strange Remnants (fun new Mystic Ruins deck). 4. Sign of Carcosa (IMO weakest small box but good characters; I'd consider getting a big box before this). For me the big boxes are in this order of "fun-ness" 1. Under the Pyramids (good sideboard, great Ancient Ones) 2. The Dreamlands (best use of a sideboard in any expansion) 3. Mountains of Madness (my favourite theme, and the best characters, but they were clearly figuring out sideboards with this one. The Ancient Ones aren't anything special). 4. Masks of Nyarlathotep (such potential, quashed horribly).
If more expansions come out, I will keep buying them, for completeness sake. That is, until they start releasing really dumb ones, like Cthulhu Invades Candyland, or The Return of Spongebob. My trouble is finding people to play these things with. I have made some new gaming contacts, but some people just don't want to play horror themed games.
I hate campaign additions to games that don't have anything to do with campaign play. It sucks hard. And this is just terrible. Same with zombicide 2nd edition
I've never missed an Eldritch Horror expansion. Until now. The "campaign" mode and personal coin flips are *really* disappointing and it's showing just how far things have gone south at FFG, a former favorite.
