Eleanor Audley, Maleficent herself, played Oliver's mother Eunice Douglas on the hit TV Sitcom Green Acres.
In this scene from the first episode of the series, "Oliver Buys a Farm", Mother barges in to scold her son for buying a farm without telling his family. Despite being his mother, Eunice takes Lisa's side and offers to let her live with her.
Never oppose Maleficent. NEVER.
Featuring Eddie Albert and Eva Gabor.

How rare for a Woman to spoil her daughter-in-law scold her own son 🤣🤣🤣
@SashGirl34

Which makes it extra funny because it's so rare to see on tv. Usually it's the daughter-in-law being detested for marrying their son...or whatever. Eunice adores and favorites her daughter-in-law over her own son. Who she shunns especially after buying a farm and becoming a farmer.

I pity poor Eleanor Audley. Every actor's worst nightmare beyond stalking is to be constantly typecast as one role they played and never be allowed to escape it. In her case, Maleficent. Her comedic ones are far greater and sadly get overshadowed by that. Rowan Atkinson is even worse. Most people don't even know his name. This scene, and that other clip from *The Beverly Hillbillies* are pure gold. Eva Gabor got off easy. People don't constantly call her Duchess whenever they refer to her.
@stevenkrage2412
@stevenkrage2412 6 лет назад
I'm gonna have to respectfully disagree, my friend! While Ms. Audley will undoubtedly be remembered best for her work with Walt Disney, her work in other areas is prevelant and well-respected. Her role as Maleficent is as dramatic and genius as voice acting gets and have inspired many future generations of voice actresses (I'm looking at you, Pam!) Though she often got "type-cast" as a society matron and upper-crust loon, it afforded her the pleasure of working constantly for her entire career on Broadway, Radio, Film, and TV. Thankfully her work is most recognized as part of the Disney Universe, which has kept her name and voice alive so long after her retirement and death. There are hundreds of character actresses who didn't have that one big notable break to carry them from generation to generation (like Elvia Allman, for example.) I'm 27 years old and I'm writing a biography of Margaret Dumont, and I'm keeping the legacy of character actresses alive in my own small way. Audley is, and will always be, Maleficent, as Betty Lou Gerson will always be Cruella, and Lucille LaVerne will always be Queen Grimhilde. If that role is the furnace keeping her flame lit through immortality, who are we to pity her?
@TheNotverysocial
@TheNotverysocial 6 лет назад
@@stevenkrage2412 It's more the overshadowing than anything. It's a good role, yet I find these comedic ones as something that makes her more than pure evil. I'd say she was more versatile than she is oft given credit for. Furthermore, my point of view if far different than most. I never saw SB until I was a teen. So it's not as deeply burned into my mind as with most viewers.

WHERE WAS GREEN ACRES ? In an episode, it is said that Chicago is 300 miles away which implies that the farm is in Illinois (probably southern Illionois). But a Park Avenue lawyer who was born in Upstate NY (near Saratoga Raceway) likely looked in upstate NY first. Questions like this are never really answered (where is Springfield on "The Simpsons".....why did the castaways on "Gilligan's Island" have so many clothes?) but it is funny to debate them.

@@SashGirl34 Rare but not unheard of! Why my own late paternal grandmother would chime in for my own mother's behalf whenever my parents had even the tiniest disagreements! It's true! But then the combined factors of my paternal grandmother having wanted a daughter but only bearing one son AND the fact that she didn't like my father adoring HER mother (who herself HAD wanted her own son) while, at best, tolerating his mother (and my own mother always trying to think the best of others and wanting to be a peacemaker) all contributed to this unusual dynamic!
@SashGirl34
@SashGirl34 2 года назад

@@wardarcade7452 So this could be a big factor why Eunice Douglas favored her daughter in law over her own son. Lisa is more the ideal child she longs for. The fact she has Lisa's picture framed for example. I think she wanted a daughter. And there's times she just ashamed of having her own son.
