Just for the record, candidates are chosen at the conventions by delegates. Presidential incumbents of both parties typically do not have to endure a primary cycle and are, again, chosen as candidates at the conventions. In her case, she was not a presidential incumbent, but it still works the same way. Individual state primaries are not a requirement for nomination.
