I just got mine late February sorry I would have used the link. Its amazing. It rides like a Lexus smooth. It’s not fast off the line my Lectic beats it easy but it’s really fast over a distance. Not in love with the thumb throttle but I mostly pedal. The smooth tires are quite and roll Fast. I need to bring mine to the bike shop for a tune
Of course, I totally support having a professional assembly the bike. However, the cruiser model is one of the easiest models to assemble. It's always good to have it checked by a shop!
I have 100% clarity that I am not a bike mechanic, but I love this video showing some quality tools that a bike mechanic should own. I do most of my own car repairs, so it is tempting to spend a few hundred on bike tools instead of bringing it in, but damn I don't want to hurt my baby ! My bike is much nicer then my car!
As a transitioning car to bike mechanic myself, I understand the struggle. I am just of the mindset to purchase the tools as I go. Starting out a good allen key set, and a small torque handle tool have helped me immensely. (Here is an affiliate link to the torque wrench we use: amzn.to/3Icq8T3 )
By far one of the best unboxing and setup videos I have watched. I have watched dozen’s of videos so Your video helped me decide witch E-bike for my wife and I to purchase. We are a late 60’s couple and live in the suburbs of Minneapolis with tremendous biking trails and are looking to expand our exercise abilities.
Received my Cafe Cruiser XR in the Latte color last week. As someone who is 6’4” and 230lbs… this bike fits me very well. With the first two rides done, thrilled at how the bike rides and the feel while under power.
This was a great video and shows that it’s great to have a bike mechanic put your bike together to ensure you’ll have a smooth running bike first couple of hundred miles then bring it back after it’s broken in to go through and retighten and adjust everything that may have gotten out of adjustment during the break in period.Fortunately for me I’ve learned over the years and do exactly this to my bikes.
What a great tutorial video. Lots of detail and great tips. I need to check my spokes for tightness. Super job guys. Thank you very much. BTW, the Café Cruiser is on the top of my buy list. Lots of extra features and high quality for a reasonable price. Easier then normal assembly and it looks great too. I think it will be a great first E-bike. I'll use your link. Thanks again. Kim
Wow I lived in PR and didn't even know Bike polo was a thing until this video lol Thank you for bringing it up. I pre-ordered the cafe cruiser a few days ago since its out-of-stock right now so I"m watching for vids in preparation, I guess I'll be taking the bike to Trek or the local shop for tune-up xD I can handle regular bikes.. but this whole e-bike world is new to me
The basic components of a ebike are the same as a normal bike. So you might not be to out gunned in the assembly. Knowing the mechanics at your local bike shop is always nice though. -JT
Great content, considering buying an ebike, these build video with Matt are very informative. Maybe on the next video Matt could describe how the installation of a security skewer might differ.
Hi Ryan doing a great job on your reviews you have two bikes I'm interested in Cafe Cruiser and the antelope, waiting for those for reviews thank you and please have them coming soon
I saw the filing of the front brake caliper spacer on the front side. Looked like you also filed where that filed surface bedded on as well? and back side of spacer too?
I filed both sides of spacer, reinstalled and it was still chasing when tightened, I disassembled and filed the mounting seats on the caliper (which looked to be the worst uneven surface) and it reinstalled with no chasing and I was able to center dead on.
My Ride1Up makes a (SNap!) sound when useing the throtttle from a full stop. I don't think it's the spokes. Any ideas what I should check. It has been that way for a while and hasn't seemed to have broken anything. But, I avoid the throttle because of this.
@@EbikeEscape Thats a good idea...I'll try that when the weather inproves. I'm not too worried. I bought a Step through and a regular at the same time. I only ended up useing the step through so I could change the wheel/hub assembly if I was bothered.
I would like to be able to raise the handle bars their to low.. need to make these bikes more customizable like a Harley changed my bars a few times over the years and it's not that hard to do..
I think the bike needs an option on the rear rack. Too bulky. The Thule child seat does not use the foot pegs. Most buyers will not have a < 130lb buddy on the back at that price point! Should be a rack like the 700 has! And it would reduce the weight. Maybe R1U's future "click on rear basket" will justify? Also, don't like having the open holders on the chain stays if not installing the foot pegs. Looks unfinished and possible ankle biters! We are HB CA boardwalk riders and have been drooling over this Cafe (beach) Cruiser, it checks almost every box! These are our first impressions from the website only and not first hand. ps: no stem spacers included for taller riders? You mentioned something about using? Did you mean aftermarket?
Thanks for sharing! My brother took this on a trip with two older kids so we'll see how he likes it. Unfortunately, a non-welded rack wouldn't meet his needs due to weight limitations. No stem spacers but an adjustable stem might be a nice add-on for this model. Thanks for watching!
Thanks, this is a bit of a disappointment but overall I think the bike will work for me. My other option was a Philodo H7...but I worried about the quality and customer service. @@EbikeEscape
No. I have one. The motor keeps burning out. I took the information off the motor and contacted Bafang. They told me that its a 500w motor.@EbikeEscape
But.... out of the box, the average Joe who doesn't know anything, would it be fine without all the expert tweaks? At least for initial riding? I feel like watching everything, the bike seems sub par and almost makes me not want one now.
Hi Mike - I think if someone doesn't know anything they should take it to a bike shop. Remember this is just what happens behind the scenes and Matt is a perfectionist. Safety is the biggest concern. I usually wait for a few rides before I make any brake adjustments provided it is rideable.
@@EbikeEscape thanks for the reply. I'm going to order the Cruiser and have a mobile bike shop come do the build and tweak all the tweaks. I can't wait.
