Let's keep these comments on the Doug videos please, i don't need the Autogefühl video comments filled with these instead of discussion about the car 😅

Thank you. But this is terrible. Way behind on every metric. Small 116 kWh and terrible Efficiency at 250 miles. 11kw Level 2 max is also not premium. So is the 200kw DC max. I understand impossible to have a low DC (.44) with a G class design but this greatly misses the mark. Also losing the Frunk potential due to battery pack means this isn’t a unique EV chassis. Bummer
Yes MB needs to do something with their naming scheme again. Has gotten too ilogical. Put the engineers to come up with something and not the marketing idiots. If I was in charge I would probably start by replacing the numbers in the model designations with the rounded off hp number instead. And then maybe add a letter for the type of drive train etc.
400km range is enough to drive most G class owner I think. Because most of'em driving around Manhattan, Beverly Hills, London City or Ginza Tokyo. Also most of them who buy like these, have alternative G63 for long range driving...
Nobody does long distance in a G63 and if they do, they are most definitely stupid. I have traveled at motorway speeds in a G-Class and it’s crazy loud inside because of the fact that it is as aerodynamic as a brick… It is comfortable but so loud that it gets annoying
I have done 4000 km long trip in 2023 g63, it was more comfortable than lx570. Only complaint was the exhaust sound, after a few hours of constant 120kmh cruise, exhaust sound becomes so boring and starts bother you.
Absolutely, they’re also everywhere in southern France and southern Spain. When those places start having emission zones the same people with enough money and (questionable) taste will just switch to this.

This is a winner, used to be taycan with €120k+ price, even more after the price increase of gen 1 for 300km range. This one looking at G wagon ICU prices €200-€300k for 400km range. I know if you can afford it it wont matter but then again 400km… thats less what I was gettin from my x5 m50d in city only driving and over twice as that on motorway.
It weighs 3100 kg din,its ridiculous😂😂😂😂,it doesnt even have sila silicon based promised battery with 40 percent higher energy density, and it has real world range of 285 km😅😅😅😅,evs are so far away from being a real practical automobiles
@@elg1gy no one really tows with a G, that's what the GLS is for and buyers with towing in mind (any sort of real towing) aren't going to opt for an EV over ICE - not yet anyway. I'm sure the G towing crowd is out there but this is mostly a truck you have at the Hamptons home to haul your kids around in and a go out to dinner vehicle.
@@MaticTheProto Totally agree :-). Just that not only the looks were important for a G-Klass. That bassy roar V engine was the soul. Now is just a silent-good looking-box
Best looking of all EQ models from Mercedes-Benz. The horizontal lightbar at the rear end used in the latest Mercedes-Benz design language is among the ugliest if not the ugliest in the automotive industry.
Wonder how that 2 speed gear box functions... If its a real mechanical gear box.. or if they can simulate gears by altering the windings in use in the motors..
Many thanks for the wonderful preview of the electric G, Thomas! Also great to hear that there will be some animal-free options for the seats, dashboard, and door trim in the future. 👍🏼
Great video, and it's so fun to see him reply to people in the comments I still wonder about the rear centre armrest/ centre console, but that feels nitpicky I look forward to the driving of this in the days to come ☺
We build Legend G-Class since 1979-now, 2001 Mercedes Benz G350 current: $10K, add MG4 Xpower AWD, Dual Motor: $25K, Total: $35K, No Need G65 AMG, G63 AMG 4.0L V8, G500, We had G-EV Dual Motor AWD 435 hp, No Gasoline, No Diesel, No LPG, We loved real environment, no air pollution for city or forest
The fact that Mercedes couldn't fit a frunk in this ginormous vehicle is a testament to how poor their packaging is. Mercedes-Benz EV efforts have been extremely weak this far and the G class EV doesn't seem to have the ambition to reverse that trend.
Few issues keyless entry unless Mercedes have solved the issue with people cloning your keys from inside the house then this would make the car uninsurable. No tow is also an issue, range ok but only 250dc BMW has up to 350dc (what is the architecture 400v or 800v ? )
I was dying to know about the electric version. I am a little disappointed by the grill. Will there be an option to pay for the grill to look like the combustion model?
As usual the absolutely best videos found on this channel. Keep up. the good work! - Thomas, do you have any thoughts on real world range? Is it around 300 km?
Great review as allways.👍 I've notised that its sometimes hard to show the trunk/boot when everything is black and dark.. maybe you should have a light collored bag/rucksack or jacket to throw in, just to help show of the size and shape to get some light in there, to help the camera a bit. Just a thought 😊
Let's try to imagine the target audience of potential buyers. Price from 200 thousand euros. Aerodynamics of brick. (Which reduces the range) An SUV weighing three tons. (which makes it absolutely useless off-road) Top speed 180 km/h (Which makes it useless on the autobahn) High center of gravity, heavy weight and poor aerodynamics. (which would render it useless on the race track). So this is Kanye West who will ride it around the casino in Monaco and save the planet. (And that’s only on condition that his wife in a collar fits in the trunk).
As an ev this car doesn't make sense, it's heavy and boxy. As a G Class this car also doesn't make sense, the range is too short to be taken offroad into the forest, there is not even towing capacity wtf But sadly this is the car that makes the most sense to buy, the current G Class owners will never take this car offroad, and I doubt the AMG engine they chose will ever be used to its full potential. The G Class is just a status symbol and will only be taken to the mall. That's the reality, that's why this car exists.
What an interesting car and review, thank you. The off road stuff as described is really good and useful. For something like this I do not care about poor CD values. However if it is really to do an off road job do you really want such an on road Chelsea interior which is not going to last a minute on a farm’s hillside when lambing and full of ewes, lambs, and sheep dogs. Is it really going to do proper rugged forest work or merely ensure you can eat your forest picnic in comfort. To put it bluntly what is this for? Will anyone who really needs working off road buy it?
You don't have to be an engineer to imagine that without engine noise, the wind noise will be unbearable and the energy consumption ridiculous. I'd definitely feel uncomfortable, to say the least, knowing that the battery pack is submerged 0.5m in the water!
Offroad with an EV? It's literally called "OFF" any roads, away from charging infrastructure! Making such a product puts some serious questions in my head. Sure some enthusiasts buy ok, but then what?
I think Mercedes went wrong withe the G580 EQ. Not efficient, not 800V and using 4 mtors has non sense at all. Too much raw materials for nothing, and 3000 kg ? BTW I am a pro EV, but this is nonsense :(
This is one of the worst designs I have seen so far, G class has no front trunk because "some electrical stuff" and how Tesla and other cars managed to have it? This car is even SUV, they had plenty of space to put at least res. tire in front but no, they put a charger there. Design is terrible and it's for city drive and showing off.
There is 1 potential downside of having 4 motors instead of 1 with transmission axles. If only 2 wheels have grip you can only use 1/2 of the full power of 4 motors. Might potentially be enough still. But its how it technically will work.
Not necessarily, max power of 4 motors will probably exceed max power of the battery. Best guess it'll never be a problem, a single motor will move it along until you get grib again.
Maybe. But if I were a buyer on the 2nd hand market, I would not that an internal combustion G Wagen might have some expensive repairs becoming due whilst the electric version would be mostly maintenance free making it more attractive.
