My wife and I were at the show. Absolutely amazing! Nobody wanted to sit down. Lots of people singing and dancing. Maybe the best “feel good” concert ever. I’ve been a fan since the late 70s, but had never attended a show. So glad we went.
Absolutamente de acuerdo!!! Y podemos incluir a los 60 como el inicio con The Beatles, Stones, Who, Pink Floyd, Yes, Génesis, The doors, Led Zeppelin, etc 🤗🤗🤗
If you ask me... ELO is one of the most under rated bands to come out of the 70's. I was just a child when this song came out and I, along with my younger sister, fell in love with this song. Jeff Lynne is a musical genius and deserves far more recognition than he has received. Anything ELO did prior to this song was gold as well.
This song reminds me of ridin' my bike thru my subdivision with my transistor radio danglin' from my handlebars in the Summer of '79. Oh what happened? How I wish 1979 could have frozen. This song was massive...then ELO released "Don't Bring Me Down" later that summer and it EXPLODED.
@@soafaking Agreed, I hear many kids today are turning to 70's and 80's music because of the paucity of melodic, uplifting and inspirational music in the charts today, which can only be a good thing.
I was very lucky to have met Jeff and the rest of the group like Bev Bevin. I got to know Jeff pretty well when they would come to town. He showed me the set up of the instruments and even offered me and my cousin a ride home in his limo. I met them three times and he was a true gentleman every time we met. I will always remember those wonderful times. I was very fortunate and have watched him as an ardent fan and friend .
JEFF LYNNE NEVER RECEIVED THE CREDIT AS ONE OF THE BEST GOD DAMN SONGWRITERS IN THE HISTORY OF ROCK MUSIC!. HIS GROUP WAS FUCKIN BAD ASS, ELO FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. THANKS JEFF, R.I.P KELLY.:(
I hope she considers herself a very lucky girl! I would give my right arm just to sit down and talk to Jeff for an hour or 24...I have so many questions!
+michele visconti So happy you are ok...our love and thoughts are with those who have lost loved ones and who have been injured in the terrible events in Italy
Gotta love how they took hard rock and mixed it with disco to make this perfection of a song. Remember it quite well from 1979. Was all over the airwaves back then. Absolutely love it!
@@RedStrikerBeetleborg Big time👍..and now when I think about the early eighties when many rock fans & metal bands chanted "DISCO SUCKS"😲? Yikes...I'd rather have the likes of Rod Stewart, Kiss, ELO, Bee Gees and countless other bands doing their "once in a lifetime" disco stuff anytime...compared to alot of the junk today.😝
Whoa, are you SERIOUS...??? The whole reason I love this song so much is because of the bass player and I was just about to look him up to see what ever happened to him. Wow, that stings!!!
I was at their concert in Houston on 8-9-18.....I drove from Tampa FL....OVER 1000 MILES EACH WAY they were UNBELIEVABLE!! That was the closest show to my home. My 25 yr old son paid for everything, hotel, tickets, and the rest....he said that he wanted to thank me for introducing him to ELO, and all of the other great music of the day! The last time that ELO was in America, was 12 years before he was even born. I was able to cross this off of my bucket list. It was so WONDERFUL to share that awesome experience with him! It was a better show than I could have ever hoped it would be.
My partner and I travelled from Tasmania, Australia to see ELO in London at the O2 Arena last October. Second front row tix and we would do it all again tomorrow in a heartbeat. It was an utter highlight of my 52 years.
I hear ya. I would take my turntable and ELO record and rollerskate on my porch as a kid. My dentist would have them playing at his office. I loved my dentist!
Everything ELO touched turned to Gold!!!!!The sound and orchestration of their music is beyond Magnificent!!!!!! I'm so grateful to have had this Extrordinary Collection of truly one of the greatest groups of all time in my life experience!!!!!!! It's truly amazing the depth of seemingly natural talent that resides in the U.K. whose music really is the Royalty of the Universe!!!!!
If anyone ever wanted an example of what it means and what it feels like to play "on top of the beat" this song is a great example. The Discovery album is criminally underrated. Great stuff ! Thanks for sharing !
I know I’ll probably get shot down for this, but I recon ELO is musically fare better musically and entertaining that both the Beatles and Rolling Stones. they never did it for me like ELO
I think you are onto something ...with sweet sounds like ....Shine Your Love🎉 Don't Bring Me Down🎉turn to stone 🎉over the world they resonate with me more than the fab 4 and even the stones...but I still like them other 2 brit bangers as well 🎉❤😂
I'll have to say in so.e way I agree with you. The Beatles and the Stones were probabely the first but not the best... Just think of Yes and King Crimson among others and E.L.O.
I think The Beatles, The Stones, and King Crimson, who i loved, along with ELP and others were way up high on that mountain of talent, and ELO came along and climbed over all of them to reach the top. I might be the only one with this opinion, but so what. Ill be unique.😊
I'm with you, brother. I like the Stones and the Beatles. IMO, the Beatles' solo efforts were way better than their collaborations. But ELO is on a completely other level of talent, ingenuity, and inspiration. No one can resist tapping their feet to Mr. Blue Sky. It's infectious because it is good, and ELO's music speaks to us, inspires, and moves us. Where there is ELO.....there is a world of hope and wonder waiting for us.
We met the ELO band years ago. Kelly Groucutt had also a very nice voice on stage and I complimented him for it. He was genuinely surprised about my compliment and he asked me '' do you really think so?'' and i said yes of course !. I will cherish the nice memory!
Richard was such a an important force in ELOs symphonic and ethereal sound with such grace and proficiency in his keyboards. A true talent that can't be replaced. Have a safe trip my friend! RIP.
ThisChannelHasNoContent No. I was referring to the comment made by JESUSISNOTALLRIGHT S. It was totally unnecessary and insulting for him to make a comment like that.
I know you mean that as a compliment, and am not disagreeing, BUT that R & R Hall of Fame is no honor anymore Sheldon, and hasn't been for years when you consider who's in there.
@@andrewmatthews6861 Read my comments to Sheldon. That Hall of Fame is no honor anymore, Andrew. I LOVE ELO, and that's why I have to say this, unfortunately. They're too good for it or to be associated with it.
June 79..I was 10 years old when my cousin came home with a new album...the cover mesmerized me...and when the needle hit the fresh vinyl...BOOM...It had a profound effect on me..now 43 years later,i still listen to the masterpiece with the same wonderment..Mr Jeff Lynne you sir are a genius and quite simply the greatest allround musician of all time end of story !!
¡AHHH!!!!....
When you actually look, on paper, at Jeff Lynne as a musician, in terms of a composter, the number of songs, the multiple arrays of instruments, production in his own music and others such as Roy Orbison, Tom Petty, George Harrison, The Beatles and more, most people don't realize that Jeff Lynne is perhaps the greatest musical export that Great Britain had produced. He's not my favourite artist by far, I love ELO they're definitely in my top 10, but man he has some SERIOUS talent that most people, I think even fans overlook.
Very well said! Some facts about Jeff Lynne (ELO)...First, he is a very humble man, simply because this Music Genius is not interested in fame, the limelight, and money, he just loves to create great music. Jeff Lynne is one of the most versatile musicians ever, this is why he is considered by his peers to be among the greatest. He didn't stick to one style of music because, after decades, it gets boring. Jeff has done progressive Rock, Symphonic Rock - Pop, New wave, and Disco. Everything he does turns to gold. He even flirted with Country music. From 1972 to 1986 (During 14 years) Jeff Lynne's Electric Light Orchestra has had more top 40 hits than any other group in the world... 51 years later they still play in sold-out Arenas, festivals and Stadiums. During Jeff Lynne's ELO 2019 Tour, many reviews agreed in saying they are the best live Classic Rock Band in the world still touring and Jeff Lynne is a Music Genius( From Forbes Magazine and the Washington Post). ELO is in the Rock Hall of Fame. Lynne is on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame and Birmingham Walk OF Fame. Jeff Lynne’s ELO won the Best Classic Rock Band plus Lynne won the best Songwriter award ( ASCAP ) in 2019 for his fantastic contribution over the years. In October of 2020, Jeff Lynne has been made an officer of The Order Of The British Empire for his extraordinary contribution to music. He previously has received three Ivor Novello Awards, which celebrate songwriters and composers, including the award for outstanding services to British music. He created the best Super Group of all time with his best friend George Harrison, The Traveling Wilburys. The Legends in the Music Industry call Jeff Lynne the best overall Musician ever and a Producer Extraordinaire. Jeff Lynne has written and produced many hit songs for music legends like George Harrison, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty, Joe Walsh, Brian Wilson, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Bryan Adams, Aerosmith, Del Shannon, the Everly Brothers, The Beatles, and so many others...In June 2023 Jeff Lynne was inducted in The Songwriters Hall Of Fame ❤👍💯
Life is not worth living without ELO. 51 years old and I still love each and every song. Big part of my life. BIG. So many memories........ nothing but love for ELO!
But NOT when working on an album. I'm still ticked off that jeff got Heart breakers drummer, Stan Lynch fired in the long run. Stanley was the life and party of a Tom Petty & the Heart breakers show. A music critic once said The Eagles should have been fired for loitering on stage.
Tom and the Heartbreakers were very similar in that aspect. And I'm not saying that's a bad thing. I had rather them loiter than prance around like girls on the stage. But Stanley had been with them for a long time and even Tom said he kept the band loose. I just noticed Stan has died recently. He was 65. Ugh, I'm 62. I know that dirty bastard with the pitchfork is hiding behind a tree, coming up with a plan of action, just for me.
Although the things you've done I wouldn't criticize I guess you had your way You see I gotta make you understand I know it sounds a foolish thing to say But it don't matter baby 'cos' today's another day You shine a little love on my life You shine a little love on my life You shine a little love on my life and let me see Remember, tonight we're gonna run 'till dawn Remember, tonight we're gonna say it We'll never stop we got a good thing goin' on I know you've heard it all before But I really need you darlin' every day I need you more You shine a little love on my life You shine a little love on my life You shine a little love on my life and let me see Can you understand (yes I understand) Can you feel it's right (I know it is) Will you be the same (I'll do it all again) It's been a year now and it's getting so much better You came home without a word Though everybody said you'll soon forget her They couldn't see and they just didn't understand And lookin' in the mirror there were fools at either hand You shine a little love on my life You shine a little love on my life You shine a little love on my life and let me see Can you understand (yes I understand) Can you feel it's right (I know it is) Will you be the same (I'll do it all again) How many days had I been waiting there to tell you I really can't believe We're walkin' out into the world tonight We'll do it all again until the break of light And the feelin' in your heart will soon be shinin' in your eyes You shine a little love on my life You shine a little love on my life You shine a little love on my life and let me see You shine a little love on my life You shine a little love on my life You shine a little love on my life and let me see You shine a little love on my life You shine a little love on my life You shine a little love on my life and let me see
Tenía una cinta del 90 y algo grabada y tenía una canción anotada como "You shall be in love to me". Me pasé años intentando recordar qué podía ser (no tenía un aparato para reproducirla), busqué como loca y nada, ninguna canción con letra parecida a eso me salía. Y RESULTA QUE ERA "YOU SHINE A LITTLE LOVE ON MY LIFE"
FORGIVE THEM MY FRIEND. FOR THEY KNOW NOT REAL GREAT SONGWRITING SUCH AS JEFF LYNNE'S MUSIC . THEY PROBABLY THINK THAT LITTLE BASTARD JUSTIN BIEBER IS THE BEST SINGER SINCE ELVIS.!!!!. SUPER 70'S AND AWESOME 80'S FOREVER!!!.ROCK ON TW!!!!!
I don't hate it; it's just not up to the level of Face the Music, A New World Record, or Out of the Blue. The melody is the same dozens of disco-era tunes that were churned out by formula producers employing studio musicians and vocalists and packaged under various pseudonyms. While some disco material is classic, there was an awful lot of mere "product" to satisfy the needs of club DJ's, most of which never got radio airplay.
Many established rock bands /rockers jumped on the disco bandwagon in the late 70s and ended up sounding good like ELO's "Shine a little love" Others were the Stones "Miss you" Queen "Another one bites the dust" Rod Stewart "Do you think I'm sexy"
You're correct. The 'Discovery' album came out in June '79, the month after I turned 22. It was sort of a birthday present to myself. This particular song combined with (what I feel) is a fantastic, mesmerizing album cover made it a 'must have' album for me right away. I still feel this way 37 years later about it!

I worked in an Irish factory making carburettors (Borg Warner Tralee) back then and loved listening to all the wonderful songs on the factory speakers that helped pass away the time of all that repetitive machine work. This song and many others bring those memories flooding back.
ELO - what a band. I remember over 40 years ago when they visited Australia. A work colleague got bagged big time for going to see them. Supposedly the venue where they performed was only three quarters full. Wow, how times have have changed. I wish now I had of gone to the concert with her!! Love Jeff Lynne's ELO
