I'm right there will you. I started listening when "Roll Over Beethoven" was released in 1973-I was eighteen. I'm 69 now and still grooving to Jeff Lynne and ELO.
A Chuck Berry classic played by the legendary musical genius Jeff Lynne. The Beatles also had an excellent version. Nice to see the younger folks appreciate great music (with melodies).
I love them all, but Jeff Lynne’s O version of ‘ Roll Over Beethoven’ is my favorite. Especially seeing vids He played it at his RRHOF induction, all while giving tribute to Beethoven AND Chuck Berry. It’s his as far as I’m concerned.
One of the best Rock and Roll songs put to great orchestration. Many have commented on the great guitar, piano and drums but tune your ear to listen to the great bass licks, sensational.
Back in 1969, I went to see Chuck Berry. He was Amazing!! I was in college at the time. He was.so cool, I got up on stage and danced with him. So many people came up to me and said" Hey you were the chick that got up on stage & danced with Chuck Berry" The cops threw me out but I got back in & danced some more. Those were the Hippie Days. I had a great time.
My dad passed away yesterday and now I'm making a playlist with all the songs he loved and I remember him by. This is one of them. Thank you dad for showing me the greatest artists of all times. Loved, missed and never forgotten 🤘🔥❤
Saw Jeff Lynne and ELO in Sacramento, before Covid hit. Awesome show then and anticipating another great show, this coming October (in Sac, again)! Bought my tickets, last week!
Saw them in concert in 1978. THE best concert EVER. They came out for an encore and did Roll Over, a rendition that lasted probably 20 minutes or more. Will never forget the electric violin solo. ELO forever!!
I've listening to Jeff's cover of this song for over 50 yrs. My housemates and I would rock out after work everyday to his work. What an artist and what a band.
I grew up listening to Chuck Berry, but this has GOT to be the greatest version of that song I have EVER heard. The vinyl record is still in my collection!
Jeff Lynn is a legend. Still Amazing after 40 years. Never thought this music would live so long or sound so outstanding. Long live live music. Rockin till the day I drop......
I would sit in nosebleed seats behind the stage with a pillar in my view just to hear this amazing show...chills everytime i here him/them live...true talents...everyone of them🍻
Some facts about Jeff Lynne (ELO)...First, he is a very humble man, simply because this Music Genius is not interested in fame, the limelight, and money, he just loves to create great music. Jeff Lynne is one of the most versatile musicians ever, this is why he is considered by his peers to be among the greatest. He didn't stick to one style of music because, after decades, it gets boring. Jeff has done progressive Rock, Symphonic Rock - Pop, New wave, and Disco. Everything he does turns to gold. He even flirted with Country music. From 1972 to 1986 (During 14 years) Jeff Lynne's Electric Light Orchestra has had more top 40 hits than any other group in the world... 51 years later they still play in sold-out Arenas, festivals and Stadiums. During Jeff Lynne's ELO 2019 Tour, many reviews agreed in saying they are the best live Classic Rock Band in the world still touring and Jeff Lynne is a Music Genius( From Forbes Magazine and the Washington Post). ELO is in the Rock Hall of Fame. Lynne is on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame and Birmingham Walk OF Fame. Jeff Lynne’s ELO won the Best Classic Rock Band plus Lynne won the best Songwriter award ( ASCAP ) in 2019 for his fantastic contribution over the years. In October of 2020, Jeff Lynne has been made an officer of The Order Of The British Empire for his extraordinary contribution to music. He previously has received three Ivor Novello Awards, which celebrate songwriters and composers, including the award for outstanding services to British music. He created the best Super Group of all time with his best friend George Harrison, The Traveling Wilburys. The Legends in the Music Industry call Jeff Lynne the best overall Musician ever and a Producer Extraordinaire. Jeff Lynne has written and produced many hit songs for music legends like George Harrison, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty, Joe Walsh, Brian Wilson, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Bryan Adams, Aerosmith, Del Shannon, the Everly Brothers, The Beatles, and so many others...
Just read this, and agreed I'm late to the game. Most of this is fair enough, and some bits are........ not correct. And that is the Hit songs part. Now I do not deny Jeff Lynne is an exceptional musician and writer, and I love ELO, the thing is as a producer he obviously would suggest ideas to other artists, so its more of a contribution really, that does not mean he wrote songs for other artists completely, as it appears in your summation, for ELO yes he wrote them all, and the band had input in the arrangements obviously.
I remember (barely) see ELO back in the mid 70’s and they rocked this song then. Jeff Lynne is still amazing to this day and deserves every award he is given. His contribution to rock-n-roll is incredible. Thanks Jeff!!!
Ole ELO was one of the first albums I owned when I was a kid and I played it over and over again. I didn’t really know it then, but ELO was really a genre unto themselves. This song and Kuiama were my favorites, but the whole album was great.
Moi aussi c'etait mon groupe préféré en 1979 on etait branché c'est pas comme maintenant. Mon premier albulm d'elo ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2f9CoaIH9FE.html
When someone invents a time machine, let me know. Im going to find Jeff and we're going back to the 70s so he can keep on rocking for ever more. I want to be there to see it and hear it.
I remember seeing the Electric Light Orchestra as they were then, back in the '70's at Salford Tech now University. Finished the set with a rock n roll medley & exploding cello!
British audiences do look well behaved (even the Sex Pistols Brixton audience in their own way!) and happy - with a good spread of age groups - all at ease with each other.
