After the oscillation from the pneumatic diaphragm pumps blew up one too many discharge hoses but still couldn't keep pace with the water, we purchased a 10HP electric dewatering pump. Its benefits are threefold: higher throughput, less strain on the discharge lines, and it frees up the compressor so we can pump and drill at the same time for more efficient generator utilization. A smaller generator is on the horizon, for even more cost-effective pumping.
Also in this episode: ventilation! The tee at the 130 station was causing tremendous ventilation losses, so I tore it out, replaced it with a brand-new 45-degree elbow, and installed 50 feet of new bag to boot. Next up is rehanging the old blast bag closer to the face, which will need to be done before mucking out the next shot. In the long term I'll exchange the elbow for another tee, and install a regulator on the duct running down to the 250 level. It's unlikely that we'll ever have a large enough crew and fleet to require full ventilation on both levels (watch me eat my words...) so being able to selectively route fresh air to the current working area will save money by not ventilating inactive workings.

Overhead clearance is the biggest challenge for that vent pipe over getting enough CFM flow. Is there any oval type tube that is available to do the job. As for the electric dewatering pump as opposed to the diaphragm pump, is the duty cycle of the electric version, some only have a limited lifespan in the bearings etc., where the diaphragm will never stop, unless the valves block or you get a split.

Yes, we have some fiberglass oval ducting stored on the surface as well as some currently installed in the decline. We plan to use rigid oval for long-term areas like the decline, and flexible bag as seen in the video for the working levels. The decline was driven by a contractor with a pair of EIMCO 912s and is smaller than specified, probably so they could get their footage quicker - you're exactly right about overhead clearance there. The current working level is all either true 10'x10' or a few feet taller and the tallest equipment we plan to run is about 7' to the top of the roll bar, so clearance is perfectly suitable for 24" bag. A previous operator tried running a 3-yard EIMCO 913 in the decline and had lateral clearance issues as well as serious emissions problems. As it turns out, we can run two trucks and a 1-yard 911B for double the tonnage and half the emissions of that single 913 *before* factoring in passive aftertreatment and fuel blending. The electric pump is intended for continuous service (or up to 20 start cycles per hour, not that we'd do that) in wells and has oil-filled bearings. This type has been used extensively in the district with good results. Another consideration was compressor capacity - the electric rotary screw compressor in use cannot supply adequate air to run a diaphragm pump while drilling, but we have ample excess generator capacity. Our generator utilization is now much more efficient.

Hit the start button. Yeah, that one over there. Water must be a huge nusiance in your line of work. It is worth retaining for future use or too gritty?

A small quantity of it is absolutely vital for drilling and dust suppression, but we've got entirely too much. The pump also pressurizes the utility water lines and provides water for the sink and showers in the change house. Dissolved solids are a little high, but we've had it tested and it's just fine for drinking water after filtration.
