Our electric tongue jack kept blowing fuses every time we tried to use it on battery power. It worked great on shore power, but once we unplugged that 30A fuse going into the trailer would blow. We share the 4 possible solutions we investigated and one upgrade we made during the process.
We got some advice in the Facebook groups and looked at some electric tongue jack troubleshooting online and finally got it working again. Fortunately, it is just in time for some boondocking over the holidays, making memories with the ones that matter most-that’s #WhyWeWork!

We got an auto resetting circuit breaker fuse, but I think the thing that kept giving us issues was raising it too high a few times and the other times it was tripping because I was running it as we unplugged and we went from shore to battery power while I was lowering. You can find the 30a circuit breaker fuses on amazon or at any auto parts store. They look just like a regular fuse with a circuit breaker at the end instead of a regular plastic sheath.

I’m having same issue , but I think my battery went dead left it hooked up for over a year 🤦🏽‍♂️

I just went through this on my 2016 Jay Feather X213 and it was caused by the power jack being raised too far and getting stuck. I loosened it after using another jack to raise it, and the problem went away. Thanks for the help getting pointed in the right direction.

You saved me the cost of diagnostics at the RV repair shop. Now I know why I kept blowing those fuses. Thank you. I could find no other videos addressing this problem.

It will help if you use a fuse that's rated "T" as in, it's not a fast acting fuse, it's a slow acting one. It's very common for electric motors to cause spikes in current because of the spools/magnetic field that generates a brief current spike after the Voltage/power supply is cut off. It fries fast acting fuses. Another reason it can blow is if the motor is turned on but can't turn (when the tongue jack is all the way up or all the way down), so make sure to release the buttons fast or stop short of hitting the ends. This just happened to me and I'm now looking for a 30A T fuse... good luck guys!

Make sure the cap on top is secure and the case is not filler with water. Also, check the fuse amperage.

my problem was the ekectric jack was tied into the fuse to the main panel. running rhe jack when rhe fridge was running takes out the 30 amp line fuse. the jack has an auto reset breaker and its own 30 amp fuse. i am connecting the jack direct to the battery.

I have the same issue when jack is getting towards max height, the amp draw spikes and blows fuse. I currently keep a pile of fuses in the battery box but feel that my issue is a combination of high resistance terminal block connections and undersized wiring from battery and to frame ground. I'm going to put larger wiring from battery and clean up terminal block connections and likely get a resetable breaker. This is a common issue as friends of our's with a brand new rig also have the same issue. I think upgrading the wiring from batt will be key.

I have the same Jack. Can’t find my fuse, no inline fuse, not next to the connection box, not in the Jack housing. Where could it be?!?!?!

I too have had this problem nothing to do with Shore power bring that Jack too high or too low will pop the fuse every time. I put my jack up and down whether I'm hooked up to shore power or not never had an issue.
