I’ve been doing concrete work almost 50 yrs now,Brother! It doesn’t get no harder then that!😎

here's the problem with our society.....most people never see hard work being done....things just majically appear while they're gone.....they see delivery drivers and think that's some "Real hard work"...not knocking it, but it ain't nothing like laying brick, pouring concrete, farming, running heavy equipment, building fences, highways or even cleaning up a job site. Sad that the only exposure to outdoor work is a delivery driver

Until you have done the job, you will never really know the job. 31 years in brown here. I got no complaints about the job, it was really good to me and my family. Also a US Marine. Driving for UPS is no joke physically, and working conditions can go up to 145° in the back of that truck. Delivering over 200 stops a day, and 500 packages, and weighing up to 150 lb each. Of course on average it is about 45 lb. Try grabbing one of those bails of hay throwing it on your shoulder and running it 40 yards to a door and then running back. Now do that every 5 minutes for 12 hours a day. Average walking distance is about 15 miles a day, and that's with weight. Then you get home, you won't care what mattress you're hitting. One may say a homesteader, that walks around with a camera all day is an easy job. But until they have done it they don't know. That's not to say that there aren't some UPS drivers that may have routes that are easier. As for A/C, it's a mute point, those trucks will never cool down from point a to b. Just not enough time, when you're stopping every 5 minutes and cant idle. But if you're going to endorse "technology🎉" , air conditioning is one that's been around for quite some time. Just remember somebody has to deliver all those products that you get for free and endorse on your channel. 😂

Cudos to you brother, you're not a crybaby that thinks he's supposed to sit in the AC and not work hard, insulting what I do doesn't bring value to your plight. I agree all delivery drivers run their butts off....but ya signed up for the job, ya knew the requirements and as a Marine you know how to do your job I'm sure. Stay safe, smart, hydrated and work hard. What's wrong with that is the mainstream media and crybaby way in which a person takes a job and then cries about how hot, cold, wet, snowy and physical the job might be. Ya signed up for it right? Just as I signed up to build this farm.....it's hot in the summer...stay hydrated, it's cold in the winter...dress appropriately.....the job requires physical activity...stay fit....and that's all my friend. We can't complain about the job that we agreed to do...it's our job....I don't fuss about going out and working all day in the field....nor should a delivery driver fuss about going out all day and delivering....he/she signed up for it brother
@StoneyRidgeFarmer
@StoneyRidgeFarmer Год назад
a man/woman can't complain about a job they applied for, knew the requirements and knew it was an outside job is all I'm saying. We live in a culture of complaining...it's too hot, it's too cold....it's too wet...it's too hard get out of the truck....none of which are valid complaints for a delivery driver that hired on fully knowing the requirements of the job....sorry....but I know it's hard work....but they signed up for it, now some are demanding luxuries that they never had because their "outside" job doesn't have air conditioning....quit and go work inside if you can't take the requirements of the job you signed up for right? If ya can't take changing weather conditions, why would you take an outside job? That's what this is about brother....no question delivery jobs are hard, but imagine being a roofer...ya don't hear them complaining and wanting air conditioning on the roof right? They signed up for this...tell me if I'm wrong
@SCraig1966
@SCraig1966 Год назад
I don't see how you can bust a profession for wanting to improve their working conditions or tools, so they can do their job better. You're always looking to improve the way you do your work around the homestead. I also did roofing, my father was a carpenter. It's no joke. But if they had air conditioned suits, there would be roofers wanting them. I don't know about where you live, but most of the roofers in my area consist of immigrants. Which the majority of them can't complain, and won't complain. But you definitely don't see too many young Americans getting on a roof.

I hate he said that about UPS drivers . You take 100 stops on a truck in 100 degree heat , and the company won't even let you install a fan . You have to deliver all your packages that day . And have to make pickups too . You are setting your on pace . UPS is wide open all day . Try it .

UPS drivers are not cry babies. They work all day long 5 or 6 days a week, usually in trucks that do not have air conditioning. You work on a hot day for a few hours, then get in your air-conditioned truck and then go home to your air-conditioned house. There's no comparison.
@StoneyRidgeFarmer
@StoneyRidgeFarmer Год назад
I agree that they work hard, but they are in and out of the truck all day long, in the wind with the door open....there's been a bunch of stuff on the news about the "poor delivery drivers not having AC" ...I'll tell you what's bad, sitting in the AC and then going out into the heat....v/s working outside all day and acclimating. You don't see me in a pickup cab with the AC on here do ya? How bout the guys out there building the highway on the blacktop? Don't hear them crying about work conditions do ya? You get a job as a UPS driver, you know what you signed up for...just as I do with the farm....hydrate, eat right, be smart and dont be hungover lol

They are industrial athletes. I have seen more than a dozen in my career get admitted to the hospital for either he exhaustion or heat stroke. They may have signed up for it, but is improving your working conditions a bad thing? You're still not plowing with a horse are you? UPS has been in business for well over a hundred years, air conditioning has been around for a while in vehicles. If it drops the temperature of that cab, from 110 to 105, it's an improvement. You're using a nice brand new electric tractor to lift that roll of hay, I know you think that's heavy work. But I don't see you using a winch system to lift it. Of course this generation is a lot different than the ones in the past. But that's not to say there's not hard working ones still out there. But you do you, and others can do themselves.

How much more was the purchase price of the tractor? What's resale potential. Over a 25 year life how many battery packs and at what cost would they cost to replace compared to a diesel tractor and the maintenance of said diesel of comparable 25 year period. I'm an economic type guy and want to compare this stuff to make a decision. Again if electric makes sense I don't have a problem with it. That said I hate that I went the electric golf cart route now that I'm at the end of the batteries life. Wish i would of kept the gas one I had and just replaced the engine in it. @robwelniak3765
@robwelniak3765 Год назад
It does cost you to charge it. You paid for a solar array. It also cost you in terms of acquisition cost being higher. It also will not run the PTO without driving the tractor. There are plenty of costs. Not to mention opportunity cost of those additional $$ spent acquiring the tractor. Ignoring these costs, is much like calling something the government pays for, "free". Nothing is free. This sounds more like an advertisement than an unbiased review, because it ignores any negatives. It costs literally $10k -$15k more, if you pay cash… for the same or less performance. I’d have to see where that extra $10k plus opportunity cost, is worth it. I don’t see it. The opportunity cost alone, is $700+/year. That’s easily 175 gallons of diesel per year you’d have to burn in the diesel unit just to break even on opportunity cost. That’s not even considering that you just paid $10k-$15k more for the unit. You mentioned the life expectancy of the electric motors, but that isn’t the wear item on any EV. The wear item is the battery. What is that life expectancy, and what is that cost to replace? It’s not 80,000 hours. These are bold and blatant facts that seem to be totally ignored, which is why I cannot see this as a fair and unbiased review of electric tractor ownership and cost.
@StoneyRidgeFarmer
@StoneyRidgeFarmer Год назад
upfront cost is more, solar system charges every battery on the farm, from dewalt to solectrac and it's an emergency backup for my meat freezers. Yep...it costs more to have an electric tractor...a new diesel truck is nearly $100k ....and It's not a review...it's just me working the tractor....I don't care if ya buy one buddy....I'll do a total cost analysis vid soon for ya! I think it's a great idea, but if you're against it...the cost won't matter much. What's the ROI on a lawn mower for your lawn? How bout a tiller? I'm not sure what the point might be....if you want it...then you want it...if it's for your business .....and you want it....you want it..right? Hey Beau, Original Mattress Factory, we have one and it is old school, double sided, flip turn and rotate for long life. The only way electric works is if you get the recharges from solar, wind, hydo, nuke, geo. You have solar, and plenty of space for the panels, and batteries, you are golden for years to come, if I had the space I would do the same. Safety gear, ask someone who has lost an eye, that's all about that. The issue with electric is that some folks have been deriding electrical advances for years, anyone who thinks that an incandescent bulb is just as good as an LED, "there are none so blind". in 7 years when it needs a new battery after ten thousand hours of use...I think she'll deserve one buddy. Battery tech will have come so far by then that we'll probably have new, cheaper and more long lasting batteries to keep her going strong

Ok what am i missing with the UPS driver part? Something in the news? I think the electric tractor is cool. To expensive up front for me and i still question battery life in winter where i live, but it is very cool and practical in my opinion.

My only question is how much does a new battery for the tractor and how long are they supposed to last? You make a great point on the cell phone everyone has one but I can replace it reasonably when it starts getting slow to charge and quick to discharge but I'm guessing the battery for something like that is going to be thousands of dollars. Yes in the time the batteries should hopefully last the fuel savings will offset the cost some but charging will offset some savings for some. If a sole tractor and used frequent you'll be running it during charging hours so will need to get plugged in. For your purposes there it is perfect though. Let it charge all day and use it for 15-20 minutes. I totally get it but like the automobile from the horse and buggy still needs some refinement. You and Tractor time with Tim both have these and am anxious to get real world feedback on battery life doing different things. I personally have 7 different tractors and far fewer acres than you an obsession really but each tractor has it's place and in a compact setting I believe these tractors hit the mark but in say an 70+ hp tractor you need the weight and more reliable power of the diesel engine. Just my thoughts. In no way bashing on you have been a loyal fan for years.

@sandpine Год назад
They make a 70hp tractor. It has a more narrow frame designed for vineyards and orchards. That one has a swapable battery pack for $18k, so I recon the 25hp battery would be about $6k…. But it should last about 10 years so perhaps that price will come down by then.. especially since they are using lithium iron phosphate batteries.

I have converted 99% of all my tools to electric, the more equipment you have, the less you enjoy working on it, I am a high tech person by nature, but I don't have time to constantly maintain and repair my gas equipment anymore. I want to just use my tools, get the work done and get on to the next thing. My electric tools are already over 5 years old and still not wearing out so far. Mostly EGO, Dewalt, and green works equipment, I am planning on replacing my lawn tractor with an electric one this year too.

To mock people for wanting to keep their diesel tractors, meh. You want to be curious about technology, why not be curious about it all. Those precious minerals for your batteries is from slave and child slave labor and conflict zones. You can call people out with their cellphones, tablets, and other junk, your just as guilty. No Combustible engines will be replaced one day, its inevitable, solar is no where near there. Solar will just be a stepping stone for the next big thing. To be honest, you have had that tractor for what 6 months and it has only made 2-3 appearances? I know there is a lot that happens that is not shown. You will jump in a TYM or skid steer before you use the battery tractor. I run 10acres and 75 acres, the battery tractor is no where near ready to keep up with my demands. Kudos to you for having sponsorships, for those that hobby farm or farming is their profession and not a show, they do not have all of that “wish I had” equipment. Not hating, just being practical, why not give an honest review and strictly use the battery tractor?

If you've got a working diesel, use it. Unless you have the figures to show you would really improve productivity, reduce costs or have some other reason to get a new tractor then you don't need to consider this tractor. If you need to buy a new tractor then you may want to consider this. I'm not saying you should get an electric tractor, or even that you need to consider it, but there's nothing wrong with looking and seeing what is possible. Most importantly this is only the beginning. There will be more electric tractors in the future. And is this one doesn't suit you then the next time you need a new tractor there may be something that will fit your use better.

It takes a lot of resources to make an electric vehicle, for that matter it takes a lot of resources to make a vehicle with all those electronic components, and it adds a lot to repair costs. They make it expensive on the low end to operate fuel powered equipment, but once alternatives, and too many add-ons, have to be repaired, or recycled, then it's arm and a leg time. Plus if you have a small problem with any number of electronic components it disables the whole vehicle or makes it operate inefficiently. We're fed lots of propaganda, but cutting through the nonsense, we used to call it spending a dollar to save dime.
