Big cam motors tend to not produce sufficient enough vacuum at idle for power brakes and adding a turbo on top of that has a reverse effect once making boost. Today I am trying something a little different and installing an electric vacuum pump to keep my power brakes.

If you still have anxiety about the reliability of that set up, if it did not come with a vacuum reservoir, adding one can give you several extra pushes of the brakes - good especially if the car stalls for some reason or you have a battery that is getting near the end of its useful life.

if its building to 25mm of vacuum that's way over what the brake booster needs. most boosters only need 15-18mm. so even thought it is cycling on when you hit the pedal it is building more than needed which isn't a bad thing.

Can we get the benefit without the fear, if the electric pump is added to the vacuum setup w/ a T and a check valve? Boosted old truck

DOES NOT SOUND LIKE A V6...LOL... How is the vacuum pump after a few months?? it is pretty loud.. I don't like all that extra noise...

Still going strong. I only notice it when I start it, once I'm driving I can't hear it unless I really try

Noisy as hell.. Not crazy about that either.. Sounds like bush league set up even though not hearable on the road.

I decided against it, just too much noise, thank you!! @@TheJcrandazzo

@raycox1971 I don't blame you. I ran it for a while and went back to using the engine vacuum. I'll hang onto the pump though in case I do a future build with a motorcycle engine and want power brakes.

as time goes by, I don't want any more noise, vibration.. guess it's getting old who knows... but with all the tech we have, you'd think there would be a silent one.... I guess oem has is down, but the aftermarket is lagging.@@provinsgarage

So does it have enough to remove the crank case pressure

I'm running a dual catch can system with one working as a vent to atmosphere and the other is attached to the intake manifold with a check valve so it doesn't pressurize under boost.

Thinking about doing single turbo build on . My first gen but I want full exhaust that’s one of the major things holding me up how did you route your exhaust from the turbo? The space constraints have me questioning whether it would be worth it or not

It was tight but not too crazy. I had to route it under the brake booster and along side the trans. Had to make some dents in a few places. I used 3.5" which is probably the limit without modifying anything

Could you run this setup without a booster
@omegalpha28
@omegalpha28 6 месяцев назад
if you weren't using a vacuum booster for the brakes you really wouldn't need a vacuum pump. that is unless you had other vacuum accessories like the a\c blend doors or 4 wheel drive actuators, in that case yes you could run this set up to power anything needing vacuum.
