You gotta have a different mindset with Stoner/Doom music. The music is a gift that is slowly unwrapped. It's not for those expecting instant gratification or a quick surprise. It's built up. It's smoked low and slow. Just let it unpack. Just let it braise... tenderize, even, over time, baybee, yea!

This is a genre you need to be very patient with.

Doom Metal in all it's forms (Stoner, Death / Doom, Epic, Funeral Doom, etc.) is the closest to the legacy of Black Sabbath, the guitar riff is the most important part of the song. The song in this style are usually long, in many cases well over 10 minutes, and some times over 30 minutes or over an hour (check out the album Dopesmoker from Sleep, the title song last a little over 63 minutes and there also a live version of the song "Sonic Titan"). If you want to keep down this road check out Reverend Bizarre, their song "Doom Over The World" is amazing and please also check "Goddess Of Doom" by the same band in which they pay tribute to the legends of the genre and Christina Ricci, yes the actress that played Merlina in The Adams Family and Katrina Van Tassel in Sleepy Hollow. If you need a real legend of the genre listen to Scott "Wino" Weinrich from The Obssessed and formerly in Saint Vitus, both bands are extremely influential probably only second to Blue Oyster Cult and Pentagram (the band from U.S.A.), his riff are awsome. Other great bands are Witchfinder General, Solitude Aeternus, Spiritus Mortis (please check "The God Behind The God"), Procession, and one last thing (I have to stop writing this long ass boring comments, jajajaja...), please check out my favorite Doom Metal song ever "Serpent's Eve" by Cathedral, those guys are awsome.

you can tell the guitar is de-tuned. the first real doom metal album was sabbath's 'master of reality,' which also featured guitar and bass tuned down for a heavier sound. lots of doom bands do the same thing now.

I think it will help that second verse make more sense in regards to why he wrote it lol. "Most of us were stuck in some drug addiction or alcoholism at the time, and it was just pure hate. It was us against the world, and we just wanted to make the most disgusting, foul, putrid record that anyone has ever recorded. We camped out at the studio, so it was literally just wake up, consume as much fucking drugs as possible, and then just start jamming."

Electric Wizard's Dopethrone, along with Sleep's Holy Mountain, are two of the most influential albums in stoner/doom history. You have to take stoner metal for what it is: an extremely slow, heavy, crunching sound with that background fuzz that defines the genre. I highly recommend Black Pyramid.

I remember my first time I listened to this album was also my first introduction to Doom metal, my friend told me i should take a bong hit with him before we listen to it, 1 bong rip turns into 5-6 bong rips, and honestly I can’t explain it i was still new at smoking and it was an experience when we put that album on nonetheless what a band electric wizard is enjoy some classic Doom metal......🤘🤘
