Absolutely, There are still tradesmen in the trade today. We are becoming rare due to modern day business practices of putting profits before quality, but we are still around. A true tradesmen is not a salesman, he doesn’t have to be, his work history should sell itself.
Just found your channel, I'm in LU 98. I enjoy your videos as well as your knob and tube knowledge in older homes. Its difficult to find good information on that anymore. I own an older home with plaster and some cloth wiring left over. At some point it looks like someone attempted a rewire ( romex home runs from the panel but left existing cloth jumpers to devices, switches, & lights). So I'm gearing up to do a full rewire so I know the install is safe, correct & quality. Thank you & stay safe out there!
In the 90’s and early 2000’s insurance companies wanted no visible knob and tube so everyone ran Romex to the first device then knob and tube was left from then on. Knob and tube has a crazy history, they knew it was dangerous when they first installed it. 25k died each year from KnT fires. Metal lath was installed in the ceiling of first floor to slow fires and give residents a chance to escape. Gave them an additional 5 minutes during a fire.
Thanks Jorge, Tradesmen have been here for thousands of years and we’ll continue to be here after all the shitty work falls apart. A true apprenticeship was invented long before any modern day schools or unions, it’s been producing tradesmen like Ben Franklin throughout history.
Unions are best at this. 90% of the Jdubs and foreman ive worked for are honest but professional. When I worked non union nobody told me what i was doing wrong and would fix stuff without even telling me. Minnesota by the way. LU 292
Some unions have great programs, but there is a pay ceiling as well as dues. I was lucky enough to apprentice under a true master electrician on the non union side. Thanks for the input.
@@zlab1904 honestly an old friend help me out and the company took me with one year electrical experience and they are paying me programs to get my certificate and If I want to become better at what I am doing they are willing to invest on me. But apparently there some places they will take you with some electrical experience and if they need people they will invest on you mate. I was in the same position as you and you know keep praying and never lost your faith brother.
@@jonnywick4402 If your skilled at what your doing, money should follow you what ever industry your in. A good residential mechanic will become a project manager, a good commercial mechanic may become a foreman. The point is to be highly skilled at whatever profession you chose to go into to. An industrial electrician that doesn't like his job will never make as much as an electrician who is highly skilled regardless of field. But I do understand your logic, industrial electrical has some great paying positions.
@@chadfren I use to have to translate for homeowners. We have an Irish immigrant population around here every summer. Some of the hardest workers I’ve ever met. When I first started as a sub they were the only ones who would hire me. There condition of hire was that I was paid per day and I had to keep up. Much respect to those guys, they made me a beast.
@@DonaldMillerElectric Very cool. I have to deal with people that refuse to speak any English whatsoever. They insist on speaking spanish. Plus they're lazy, careless and sloppy. Which is dangerous.
My son is an apprentice and is working one year with Master Electrician in a small company doing commercial jobs. He recently received his HVAC epa certification and I’m trying to make him a master technician with the roots in electrical. What do you suggest he is 18. With all his tools. Please advise
Don’t rush. A good master electrician will mentor him into a sub, then a master himself. My mentor taught me ethical and priceless business techniques. If you jump too early you’ll miss priceless knowledge that will drastically affect his earning power as he ages in the trade.
Hey man, I’m 19 years old and I become an electrical helper on the 18th, do you have any tips for me to succeed? And I’m taking my aptitude test for ibew on the 17th. Do you think I should join the union if I get accepted? I have zero experience in the trades and I would really appreciate your opinion, I’ve been watching your videos and you sound very knowledgeable. Sorry for the really long comment
Where ever you would learn the most is where I would go. I learned under a non union master electrician, but that’s not to say the union isn’t a good option. If the union is strong and offers a good education program than jump in.
Hey, I'm an electrical helper and I am wondering how long should I work as helper before being moved to apprenticeship? I'm asking, because I may still have a plumbing apprenticeship opportunity, but I want to know when should I move on from my helper job?
@@lukewarmstanhouston9957 The best advice I can give is to pick a trade and never leave, never give up. You will build a strong character and be a beast of a tradesmen. Good luck and God bless.
I love how all ur videos you glorified the trade it’s a bs industry don’t lie everyone Listen up go to college I regret not going there is no money in the trades do no listin to this bs please don’t fall for the trades trap it’s all bs
Lol, there are millionaires being made every year, you just don’t want to learn how to be skilled, meaning becoming a talented tradesmen, not just showing up expecting a handout. The trades have plenty of freeloaders, but few tradesmen. But I love your mentality, your gonna go far in life thinking the way you do.
@@DonaldMillerElectric ik that was sarcasm but yes I will go far I will get my college degree and live an amazing life and not be a loser construction worker making no money you do realize the people in the trades are losers making no money a college degree is worth so much more so stop spreading bs info there is a reason why high schools don’t talk about the trades it’s because they don’t want teenagers falling for the trades traps you loser go get a degree and I bet you will wake up and realize how dumb you are
How is building and maintaining an electric system bs? 😂 You literally get paid to learn as an electrician instead of paying to learn at college with no guarantees of a job
